I find that the soft-core porn short stories I write for publication provide me with both grocery money AND a great ice-breaker when introduced to my boyfriend's family members at weddings.

Sometimes short stories are all that sells when an agent doesn't want to hear your novel pitch about a death fetishist and a serial killer who fall in love.

I'm not sure if it qualifies as classic, but I rather enjoyed this short story from Allegory E-Zine. It's a fantasy story called "Stone and Fire".

just over four pages, breaking the pig is a short story from the book, the bus driver who wanted to be god & other stories, written by etgar keret, of israel. the last story in the book, knellers happy campers, was made into the amazing 2006 movie, wristcutters: a love story.  very talented writer who has written some incredibly short short stories.

Awesome movie, incredible short stories.  I liked "Bus Driver" so much I recently bought two more books of short stories by Keret.
