Monstervision & Joe Bob Briggs
« on: July 24, 2008, 01:07:37 PM »
There's a petition out there to try to get Joe Bob back on the air someplace. They don't have all that many signatures yet, but then again I don't know how long it's been out there. If you were a Monstervision fan, go sign it. Or not. Whatever. Thank you for listening  :D

The only MonsterVision I ever saw was hosted by Penn and Teller

Joe Bob would make a good host for TCM Underground.  They should bring him in to do that.

He still has a website with reprints of his columns and drive-in reviews... doesn't get updated too often, but I emailed him once about getting back on the air and he replied, saying he had some things "in the works"... I agree, he's the only guy who can make commercial breaks tolerable.

Joe Bob did a series of movie commentaries that are all very enjoyable, including none other than "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies"

He pokes fun at the movies here and there but he has an appreciation for all of them and actually reveals some pretty interesting facts/stories that kind of endear you to the movies, as bad as they are.  Though I'd still never watch any of them without the commentaries.  ;D

Someone once asked him what he thought about MST3K, or something like that, and I believe he said he enjoyed it, but pointed out that the difference between what he did and what MST3K did was that he praised films no matter how bad they were, where MST3K mocked films no matter how good they were. An interesting comparison.

I really enjoy the incredible wealth of knowledge he shares with the audience and his compelling way of telling it like it is. He can make stores about these people that made some terrible films very interesting and he's an engaging speaker. It's obvious that "drive-in movies" are a passion with him, and it's always entertaining when people share their passion.

We miss ya Joe Bob !

I just watched a recording of "The Birds" with his segments where they had Tippi Hedron as the guest. Talk about a woman that ages well, she was 32-33 when they filmed the movie and she looks great even on Monstervision. Think I'll be watching through a lot more of these the next couple of weeks.

I'm for this, Monstervision was pretty cool and often had some informative bits about the movies they were screening.

I remember when uncle joe bob told us about the fact the makers of "It! The terror from beyond space!" sued the makers of "Alien" and got a settlement, plus how the mask they made for the monster didn't fit crash corrigan's head right,

Monstervison and Joe Bob were great.  God, I was dissappointed when that went off the air.  Did any of you guys watch Joe Bob on The Movie Channel back in the late 80's (I think) with Drive-in Theater.  He hosted that show and gave commentary before the movies.  Important things-like how many breasts were visible during the film.

There's a great website dedicated to Monstervision and Joe Bob Briggs at www.Monstervision.org.  It has a fully functioning recreation of Joe Bob's old website and tons of Joe Bob's reviews and Monstervision host segments and movie transcripts.  Also some MST3K there.

Check it out.

I want to keep this thread going.  More Misties, Rifftrax/CT fans need to know about Joe Bob Briggs.
As I see it, MST3K and Joe Bob are opposite sides of the same coin.  MST3K skewers B-movies and gives them exactly what they deserve.  With Joe Bob you get great encyclopedic info and hilarious humor about your favorite and not-so-favorite B-movies.  Joe Bob is a champion of Drive-In movies, but he also tells it like it is.

Love the Drive-in totals.
Love the blonde jokes.

Cool site, nice tribute to Joe Bob... I got one of his out of print books from Amazon a while back, Joe Bob Goes To The Drive-In. Great stuff. Ya know, if you email him he actually writes you back. He's alright  :)
