Mmm, that's good barley

« on: May 08, 2008, 07:19:18 PM »

Not to steal anais.jude's thunder on her Simpsons thread, but I thought I would ask for submissions for the next List o' Crap, officially sanctioned by Greg McDuck Enterprises (TM).

For my list, I'm asking you:

What is the best television comedy EVER?
To participate, PM me a list of your 25 favorites, in order (1 is your favorite; 25 is your least so).  If you can't think of 25, send as many as you can.

The Rules:
- These must have aired first and primarily on Television.  That means no Youtube or online series, no movies.
- These must have aired during "prime time" at some point - no saturday morning cartoons (unless they're retreads of old "prime time" cartoons), but prime-time cartoons are welcome.
- They must be ENGLISH LANGUAGE.  Sorry, but this is an English-language board, and I'm American.  I welcome submissions from Oz, the UK, Canada, etc, so long as the primary language spoken is English.
- These must be PRIMARILY comedies; e.g., some might argue that M*A*S*H* has elements of drama (or tragedy); fine, but I'd still call it a comedy.
All decisions on this will be MINE; if I get something on your list I don't consider a comedy, I'll tell you (if there's time) or bump it and move your others up one notch (if there isn't).
- If there is more than one version of a show (i.e., the US Office vs. the British Office), please note which you're voting for.
- Similarly, if you're voting for a show that has changed major characters/hosts/formats, please note which format you're voting for (i.e., Jack Paar's Tonight Show)
- These must be SCRIPTED.  Reality shows don't count.

The deadline for submission on this list is Thursday May 22 at 10:00 PM Eastern US Time.

(This list has been filmed before a live studio audience).

I figured this wouldn't actually interfere with your list, since you're now done with the collection of votes bit. Smiley

I fully expect Seinfeld to end up as #1 on this.

That being said, anyone who does not put Arrested Development in their top five shall be stabbed in the jaw by me. Similarly, anyone who puts Friends ANYWHERE on your list, be prepared for a double jaw-stabbing.

This has been a public service warning from Jaw-Stabbers Non-Nonymous. Thank you for your cooperation.

Since at least 75% of mine would be UK or Australian shows that wouldn't stand a chance I'm going to just be an observer on this one.

I don't want to know you. You know what I see in horror films? A complete disregard for the feelings of people like me, a complete hatred of empathy for other human beings. But there's no point in my trying to change your mind, after all, scumbags rarely change their minds. *Principal_Skin-trade (PM

No, there are plenty of people here who are either big fans of UK stuff (myself) or are expatriates (Tripe). I don't know Aussie shows, but go ahead and submit!

Please do submit a list, at the very least at the end of the official list you can post yours and we can hear about some shows we'd not otherwise know about.  Smiley

Oh and this is a tricky one, so sketch comedy shows work as well then? Alright I'll give it some thought.

THey do. Though for something as long-running as SNL, please give me the "era" you are voting for, as I really think it's different shows.  For convenience, let's say in 5-year blocks, starting from 1975.

Why would I include SNL? This is a list of TV comedies  Wink

And no prob on that. I did have one show that was generational but I think the series as a whole should count as one. Smiley
