I notice there aren't any new updates to the RiffTrax player lately. Can I assume this is as good as the software will get? Because it still doesn't play my Star Wars audio correctly, even when I use the proper codecs and tricks. All the dialogue is simply gone, even though the music and effects and riffs play normally... well, scratch that. There are times even the riffs are cut off mid-sentence for no apparent reason.

I'm calling it a lost cause. The player was a good effort, good idea, but it just doesn't work. Bummer, too. I'd like the ability to jump forward to any point in the movie and have the Trax sync up.

When I run the Rifftrax Player, it comes up with the error:

Access violation at address 004054646 in module 'Rifftrax.exe'. Read of address 00000000.'

If I click okay, it will load the player, but when I try to do things, I will get similar error messages until it just locks up. Please help.
Also, I've tried running it in Windows XP compatibility mode, same thing though.

Running:
Windows Vista 64bit
Nvidia 9800 gtx video card
4 gig of RAM

There will be a release for the Rifftrax player that should hopefully alleviate a lot of the problems you guys are currently experiencing. Please update it, when asked to do so.

This latest version will not automatically attempt to update the player upon start.

I had a problem a while back when opening RiffTrax player and the startup logo would appear but then it would stall out or take a long time to open. Finally I just reinstalled and it started working again ok. NOW I get an error message when I try opening. The most recent changes I have made to my system would be installing all sorts of programs to do iRiffs stuff. Before adding those things I had not noticed any problem so I thought maybe some kind of interference there. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling again but I had a problem getting it to uninstall at one point. I did get it reinstalled again but I get the error message "class not registered" and then it sits there again nothing opens up but it does show open on taskbar and in task manager. I tried loading all the codecs and player etc stuff. I am thinking maybe there is a certain order to install everything. I will continue to mess with it but any suggestions would be helpful. I'll just uninstall and try installing things in certain order. Thanks...whew that was a long one.

If you restart the program it should work now. We were having issues this morning but they should have all been fixed.

Alright so after doing alot of variations of things I'm back to getting the error message "class not registered" when opening up RiffTrax.exe. It says that error message instead of the logo coming up. Then it shows on the taskbar at the bottom and I have to go into task manager to close it but nothing ever opens or comes up and sometimes I have trouble uninstalling. Any ideas before I go poking around and screwing up something I gotta fix just to get back to this prob again?
Basically it should be a codec issue so I'll try installing all those again too.

Hey everyone, after doing some testing with the Rifftrax DVD Player on Vista, I've found out that this works relatively well.

If you are running Windows Vista, make sure that you are running it in Windows XP Compatibility mode

start > all programs > rifftrax dvd player > RIGHT CLICK "RiffTrax DVD Player" > Properties

And then go to the Compatibility tab and selecting the Windows XP SP2 version.

Also, if you haven't updated your version of Vista with all the new service packs, I recommend that as well.

This solved the issue I encountered with being unable to load the .riff file

As for uninstalling the Rifftrax DVD player, I advise you perform the same steps on "Uninstall RiffTrax Setup"

As for why these problems are happening, I believe it still has some issues with internet, and hopefully will be resolved by the beginning of the new week.

Sorry for all the hassle! Please bear with us during this time.

Ok so I have finally resolved the error message on starting up Rifftrax DVD Player. It seems when I uninstalled VLC Player it caused this problem I was having with the class not registered. I reinstalled VLC and now I just get nothing. It acts like it may open but no errors just stalls. Similar prob I had a while back. So far not fixed yet I will try reinstall RTDVDP again and see what else I can do to get it working again. So if anyone has VLC player just be careful if you decide to uninstall it I had a problem. I'll report back in if and when I finally get it working...btw I've done just about everything with codecs so far so...and the initial RiffTrax logo does not come up at all, that used to be the error message but again I'm still working on it...and to get it to uninstall I have to end task on RiffTrax.exe and it goes through. Just RiffTrax.exe either gets class not registered error message OR does nothing but shows like it should be open...trying to install in certain order now

Well I have XP not Vista but I did check it out just in case. It used to work about a month ago but with all the installing and uninstalling I'm sure I screwed something up. AND it takes too long to burn a DVD with the riffed audio when ya just wanna watch something right away.

Okay that's good to know. Are you able to uninstall the player? As I have mentioned on other boards, we had gotten the same errors that other users are experiencing, but once we put the fixes into place, we stopped seeing them... so I'm not quite sure where the issue could still be occurring. Which is why we need more info from everyone.

If you're still having trouble and the current version of the player is still not working, perhaps we can get an older version of the player. You can run the player without updating it - in most cases you can simply Cancel the update. I've also read that disconnecting your internet connection before you install (and then reconnecting it) will also circumvent the issue; not the best solution, obviously, but one that has seemed to work.

Sorry we can't devote more time and resources to this, but we're working as diligently as we can to get this fixed. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

Naw, no problem. I'm trying to do as much as I can to fix it for myself and help report whatever the issue is to help ya fix any kinda bugs or whatever.

So, I quit for the evening but basically here's what happens:
Setup installs fine,  running RiffTrax.exe either an error box pops up that says "class not registered" or nothing seems to happen. Rifftrax.exe is in Task manager and there is a tab on the bottom like it is open or opening but nothing else ever happens. Trying to uninstall when the uninstall opens the RiffTrax.exe it will stall on that but if I end task on it the uninstall continues fine. So I thought I had narrowed it down to something missing or interfering with RiffTrax.exe processing. I'm not sure now... but it either pops up the error box when the RiffTrax opening logo should come up or it just sits there and nothing happens. I'll get back to it later on but as of right now I just removed everything. Including other players, codecs, etc.
Thanks and I'll keep working on it.

Strange. Well I just learned that there is another build on the way which should fix a lot of these issues. I can't say for certain, nor do I know exactly when it's coming out, but I have heard that it's soon.

I have Windows XP SP2 running. The Rifftrax player screen appears when I open the program but many of the buttons are grayed out. In the top toolbar only File, View, Forums, and about are openable.  The bar that shows "Rifftrax and DVD audio levels" is also grayed out as are the Play buttons in the left lower corner of the player screen.  I have the 1.9.8.8 update.  Can any one direct me to a step-by-step solution already posted? (As a side question I couldn't get the reply message area to accept a screen shot of the Rifftrax player shot of what I just described. The screen shot is in bmp format. A picture is worth......)  Also, a thanks to torgosPizza for encouraging me to try fixing my Rifftrax and not give up on it. since I have never gotten it to work on several previous attempts.
