As if we needed some good news this week, our YouTube account has been put back online, and it looks like all of our videos have made it through the ordeal. Thought I'd let everyone know.
It's nothing big, but in my opinion it's an achievement for free speech, fair use and copyright law.
Let the film companies know you support us by subscribing to our feed and leaving comments. (Okay, that's more for our benefit ... but still sounds like a good idea!)

Nah, as we said from the beginning, it wasn't a "decision". There's no thought process put into it. A movie studio searches for the names of their movies, provides youtube with all the URLs that come up and they automatically take them down. If you respond, they forward your counter notice to the studio and the ball is then in their court to prove that there's any infringing material (which requires much more time and resources.) So they don't respond and youtube reinstates the material. The lesson is to know how things work in case a work that you create is ever wrongfully take off line. It's really quite simple, a counter notice can be generated by this form: http://www.chillingeffects.org/dmca/counter512.pdf

Glad you are back online. Gotta expect little misunderstandings from time to time. RVR II, if you are good I can give you a corner spot on www.robertpreed.com. Just keep your porn away!

Well no one here is getting out alive. This time I've really lost my mind and I don't care. So close your eyes and kiss yourself goodbye, and think about the times you've spent and what they've meant.

You should make sure that you get information about whoever made the initial DMCA takedown requests. If they try to file another request later and the takedown causes damages to you, you might be able to sue them and recover damages, court costs, and attorney's fees. (The idea is that they are now aware that the material is noninfringing, and so making another claim under penalty of perjury is actionable by law.)
Keep in mind that I ANAL, by the way.

Are they (youtube/google) likely to tell you who it was though?
