Hi, I noticed that the upcoming Legend Films cult film DVDs Missile to the Moon and the Killer Shrews/Giant Gila Monster double feature will not feature Mike's commentary. Is Mike no longer working on Legend DVDs in order to focus on RiffTrax, or will there be more in the future? I know that the last two movies were already featured on MST3K, but at least Missile to the Moon could have featured a Mike commentary.
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

Junkyard

Well, the latter 2 have already been riffed.

You know that two of those have already been riffed, right?  ;)
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

Junkyard

Yeah, Isaac: The last two have already been done. Geez.

(Sorry, by the way, didn't notice.)

That's a good question, Isaac, especially considering most of us here would fall all over ourselves to preorder Missile To The Moon with Mike's commentary. I'd imagine that Mike's contributions to Legend's cult DVDs significantly bolster their sales, and certainly can't hurt. Movies like Missile To The Moon are right up my alley, but I'm not in any hurry to buy it without Mike's commentary.

I imagine he has been pretty flat out with rifftrax, and possibly will be for a while yet.

Maybe the newer titles that are done on MP3 commentary sell better.  I have bought all of the "classic" Mike riffed movies like Carnival of Souls and Plan 9 from Outer Space and I have noticed that even with Mike's autograph on the special editions, that have all had price cuts after a while.  I am just guessing here, but that may be the reason.

A couple of episodes from the Venture Bros. could be riffed.  "Rudy" is a good movie to riff, also!

I'd love to see more "Rifftrax Complete" movies.  Legend do a teriffic job on the prints.

Well, maybe that's true, but if they're issuing "Missile to the Moon" regardless, then wouldn't a Mike commentary add some sales from the Mike fans?  Admittedly, this assumes that adding a Mike commentary is a relatively cheap exercise, which may not be true.

Is it a better use of resources (i.e. Mike's time) to have him churn out MP3s instead of having him do commentary for M2tM?

Are they testing the waters - checking sales with and without a Mike commentary to see if the incremental cost is worth it?

Be nice if someone at Legend Films could comment!

I'm not sure why Mike didn't do a commentary for this. I can try and get an "official" word from someone today, if you like.

That would be interesting, yes.

I'd buy 'Missile to the Moon'... and for that matter the Shrews and Gila Monster... in a heartbeat if they had Mike commentary.  I won't otherwise.  I admire the colorization but I buy Legend Films for the Nelson goodness.

Turns out it was simply a timing issue. We could always release a commentary for it later, or even a "RiffTrax edition" of the Legend Films movie with Mike's commentary. Maybe even get other guys to help out?

Doesn't mean you HAVE to wait, or SHOULD wait, I'm just sayin' :)

A "Rifftrax edition" would be cool, maybe with Mike's signature -- maybe even decipherable for a change! :)

(or, of course, Mike + guest riffer(s) signatures)

A separate Rifftrax is also an OK idea -- although I prefer the "Rifftrax edition" concept.
