So, yeah... Stossel. The way he tells it, his decision to move had to do with the fact that his specials always pulled HUGE numbers for ABC, and yet he was always treated like a virus. If the childish insults he receives over the move to FOX hurt his feelings, he should be able to dry his tears with wads of money.

He calls his films "documentaries." By the Academy's own standards, that is factually untrue.
“ACADEMY DOCUMENTARY DEFINITION: An eligible documentary film is defined as a theatrically released nonfiction motion picture dealing creatively with cultural, artistic, historical, social, scientific, economic or other subjects. It may be photographed in actual occurrence, or may employ partial reenactment, stock footage, stills, animation, stop-motion or other techniques, as long as the emphasis is on fact and not on fiction.” Definition met. Or did you just listen to Rush tell you that his movies weren't documentaries and believe him?

Do you actually require a breakdown of the level of pure fiction in Moore's films? Seriously?

I AM wondering where your claim that, "By the Academy's own standards, that is factually untrue. (that Michael Moore's films are not documentaries)" comes from. Can you just explain why you said that please, because the actual definition used by the Academy doesn't conflict. A documentary can be as opinionated as the filmmaker wants. Many documentaries are. Did you just mean you don't think of them as documentaries? Why go out on a limb and try to use someone else's definition when you clearly didn't know what it was? Or is it, as I suspect, that you had no idea what the Academy's definition was and that you simply heard Bill O'Reilly or Rush Limbaugh spout this lie out a hundred times and simply accepted it instead of thinking it through yourself?

I think all of us, regardless of political affiliation, can agree that it's a good thing Doc Who is not in charge of the country. Otherwise all of us would probably be either in prison or put to death.

No sane person believes that members of the media should be thrown in jail or silenced for simply misrepresenting facts. News outlets police themselves on that. If a reporter misrepresents facts, or presents false facts as true, the news outlet's credibility suffer. That's why Newsweek is respected as a worthwhile news source and the Weekly World News is not. On a grander scale, that's why Fox News is so widely disrespected while MSNBC and CNN are seen as more credible.
Not that much more credible. CNN, maybe, but MSNBC?

Not that much more credible. CNN, maybe, but MSNBC? I dunno. I was thinking comparatively. I hear a whole Hell of a lot of stuff about Fox News's lack of credibility, but nothing about MSNBC or CNN.

Not that much more credible. CNN, maybe, but MSNBC? Thanks to Olberman, MSNBC and FOX just cancel each other out. Without that freaked-out windbag, I'd agree a hell of lot more with Thrifty's statement.
