Uh.. I 'hope' to answer that in 3-5 days.. :-X
Hope the horses don't die on the way to my house. Can't wait for this to get here.
My download keeps fluctuating, bouncing all around from "7 Hours Left" to "36 Hours Left", and now it's at "1 Hour Left". I hope the third is a bit closer to truth than the second, otherwise I might as well have just ordered the DVD. :P
Yeah, the EZTakes download process is a little buggy.
I think their poor site is just being hammered now.
I am waiting on my snail mail..... and goofy shirt.
My download finally finished and I watched it.
It's pretty good. A nice 3-minute credits sequence at the beginning where they get to make fun of names (Oh how I missed that from MST3K), and lots of other great riffs. They were a bit lighter on the visual gags than last time, but there was a Thunderdome! But no "Beyond Thunderdome" unless I missed it. The ending is SOOO slow though, and it's mostly the movie's fault. There's like 5 minutes of the same shot with these two people in spacesuits doing absolutely nothing. And the plot is real depressing for the most part. But good stuff! At least as good as the first one.

Finally, the download is complete, almost 24 hours later.
Now it's "Assembling DVD".
As soon as that's done, I'll finally watch it and share my thoughts, if any.
Overall, I thought it was a bit of a step up from "Oozing Skull", much as I enjoyed that one as well. I think this would be a better episode for starting someone off on the series, partly just because there's an intro sequence. There were several laugh-out-loud (or at least chuckle-out-loud) moments for me:
Several of the opening credit jokes were hilarious
Enjoyed the visual gag of Josh showering in the fountain
The Get Smart theme! And the later "Get me Control!" "Hello, Chief?" joke. (And just in time for the show's resurgence into popular culture this weekend!)
"Do you really think you can pull this bit off for twenty seconds?" "No, but I'm committed to it."
"It's mock Soylent Green!" "I can't believe it's not people!"
"Look! He handed her a thing! Something happened!"
"It's like watching someone ELSE watch 'Manos: The Hands of Fate'."
One riff I was hoping for, but never got (and didn't really expect, because it might be kinda obscure/geeky, even for the Titans)...some of the music when Danny is putting on the spacesuit and going to the airlock sounded a lot like LeChuck's theme from the "Monkey Island" games. A mention of that would've made my day, but whatcha gonna do.
All in all, a very enjoyable episode from an incredibly poorly-made film. I look forward to the next one.
Hoo boy!
I thought it was great. But that last 10 minutes. WOW! A real test of ones mettle. I spent most of that looking at the cover of my newly bought Directors Cut of Alien, thinking to myself, hey LIE is in the middle of Alien. So, broken down into sentence form, it reads, A Lie N. Who is this N person? Is it one of the Men in Black? Perhaps its the guy that comes next in rank after Judy Dench/ Bernard Lee at MI6? Oh dear god, they're still on that static shot. That's not even his voice!!!
It's over? It's over. OK.
Frank pitched it right: This is like watching a person watch Manos: The hands of fate. But the riff of the movie goes to Mary Jo. I know what makes the ship tick, it's TICKNOLOGY!!!!
I can't decide if it's better or the same as the first one, guess I'll go with better, it was more constantly funny until that horribly long boring ending, times like that is when having the bots helps so they can go nuts or something. Speaking of bots nice gag about them in the intro.
I thought there were lots of missed opportunities for jokes, but with a movie this bad there's no way they could hit them all.
That ending ranks up there with "SANDSTORM"!
I thought this was better than the first release. What helped was that the movie was more likeable (if that makes sense) then the Oozing Skull, even if it was a mess of a film.

"Mess of a film" is an understatement... If you look at the history of it the people that started it in 1967 ran out of money, it sat on the shelf until 1972 when some other people finished it without any of the origional cast. I wonder what the origional ending was supposed to be like?
Watched it again, certainly better than the first one. But I must say so far with CT there have been no side splitting moments, so they still have some catching up to do with Rifftrax.
This one gets better the more times you watch it.

Meh. This felt like i was watching people do their jobs. I mean, i know that's exactly what it is... But it didn't feel like a group of friends just hanging out riffing on a bad movie together. Instead, it felt like they were just watching a monitor and waiting to read their individual jokes. The fact that they were reading from a script was painfully obvious and their lines felt a little stilted in the beginning. I mean... did they even record their parts on the same day?
As the movie went on though, i got used to the delivery and they came up with some good jokes here and there. I actually laughed out loud once or twice, so that's a good thing. Although i don't think this is a step-up from, or any better than, The Oozing Skull. But there is an intro of sorts this time around, which is something we all asked for... so that was cool.
The movie was fun too. Cinematic Titanic definitely caters to the kind of bad movies that i enjoy watching. And i think that's the key to enjoying this series. Once you forget that your watching a "Cinematic Titanic" release, and instead focus on watching the movie itself... the experience is actually a lot of fun.

Okay, I think we've high jacked this thread long enough..........
I have heard a lot of folks saying that the last 15 mintues of the movie was kind of short on riffs..... personally, I did not think so. I thought they did a good job of riffing over that uber-bizarre "last man of earth" ending.

Yes, a dream filled with hands in puppet's unmentionable places and jumpsuits.
I just got my copy today and love it.
Favorite lines:
"Space: What a country!" -- This wasn't necessarily the most clever joke, but it got the loudest laugh out of me because I had just gone looking for Yakov Smirnov routines on YouTube a few days ago and found a TV ad for his sitcom, "What a Country." So, it's a really old reference but it came along at exactly the right time for me.
" 'Roject Rastro!" -- Jetsons reference. Heh.
"Once again, the woman gets the shaft!" "Things a rapist might say for 500, Alex" and "It's a Chauvinist Pig In Space!!!" -- This was a really sexist movie. I loved all the times that the Titans pointed this out.
"Help, let us out of here!"(etc., supposed to sound like it's coming from the floor hatch) -- This is why it is great to have five people riffing a movie at once. The group madness moments are hilarious!
And I also loved the point when Josh tried to pay a different actor to finish the movie for him.
I love CinTan so much! I can't wait til they release The Wasp Woman!

Overall, I liked it a lot. I agree with a few things already noted here:
1) This one is not hurt by the movie itself. I mean, Oozing Skull was not just a badly made movie, it was a badly made bloodsploitation movie that was just kinda icky. Doomsday Machine is just a stupid movie - basically harmless and piled high with cheese.
2) The CinTit concept feels... cold. There are 5 people "in the studio" (I don't know how they actually record it) and I can see their little silhouettes all moving and gesturing and the like but I get more of a sense of "warmth" from my boombox playing an MP3 of 2 disembodied voices that I have to keep in synch myself.
The bots and Joel/Mike interacted - I believed they were all watching the movie at the same time.
The RiffTrax guys sound like they're over on my couch with their feet up, or in a booth throwing popcorn and waving their farts at each other.
The CinTit group often just gives me a sense of cold, timed reads, mostly completely isolated from the ones before or after. Someone mentioned the opening riffs in the latest one and I agree - totally stiff and cold. Oh sure, they got much better through the viewing, and I think the ice broke quicker in Doomsday than in Skull, but still...

That's been my thought so far, the biggest problem they have is the lack of interaction between riffers and how cold the reads are.
Remember they couldn't find studio time anywhere because of the writers strike, so when they found time they shot 3 in a row? Maybe they felt rushed and were afraid to ad-lib? If so the next 2 will probably have the same feel.
Or it's the way they are set up on the scaffolding, too far away from each other...
But I suspect it's because there are too many riffers, none of them wants to step on someone else's joke so there's no room for ad-libbing.

I'm not talking about the jokes, I'm taking about interaction (or lack of) between the CT gang.
If all the interaction that goes on during a Rifftrax is scripted then they are true gods of entertainment...
Yeah, I'd have to agree there..
There really is a lack of interaction between them.. As if it 'was' scripted.. :-\
Reviewed Doomsday Machine on my blog:
http://bigredsfunbus.blogspot.com/2008/07/ct-doomsday-machine.html
(tried to avoid spoilers)
I liked it!
I really enjoyed it and liked the intro which at least tried to set a framework for the project. I can agree with some of the complaints though. There is some interaction during the movie stops, but not enough. They need to find a way to make the experience less cold. The nice thing about Rifftrax is even though there are no on screen visuals they give the impression they are sitting there with you watching the movie and they have plenty of interaction with each other during the riffs. Big advantage over CT.
That said the riffing on Doomsday Machine was really solid and it was well worth the cost of buying. I also liked the hand signed pic from Trace.
Nice little touch.
I felt the best and most natural feeling interaction was during Trace and Joel's break from the movie (to avoid spoliers, i am not going to any more detail than that.)
I agree with a lot of the comments about it feeling a bit "read" (pronounced red) as opposed to Rifftrax where you forget that there's even a script sometime....
BUT
I personally think that most/all of the complaints I had with the first one were fixed in this one. A lot of the delivery on the jokes reminded me of watching Pod People. Also, they gave us an intro.... oh and most of the time, they didn't seem to overdo the arm motions. For example in The Oozing Skull, when Trace says "Oy, I had a hell of a vacation" it almost seems like he moved around in an OVERexaggerated manner simply so we would know WHO was making the joke.
Yeah, we MST3k fans are a nit-picky bunch...
Anyways, I quite enjoyed the whole thing and am looking forward to the next ones.... They really should add stingers to the end though. When one of the guys on the movie said "HA!" to one of the ladies (I had a hard time telling them apart really), that would have made a perfect stinger.
I agree with the aforementioned praise (more fun movie than Oozing Skull; nice intro segment) and the criticisms (takes a little while for delivery to warm up).
"You're having a bad...hair...day"
"Why does it smell like feet up here?"
"Venus, open your arms!"
"DANNY, SHUT YOUR MOUTH!"
I laugh at the bodily riffs, I guess... :)
Finally got it Friday and watched it a couple times. Another fun release. I liked Oozing Skull and this one did seem like a step up, though I think they still have awhile to go before getting the kind of comfort and familiarity we're used to. This seemed like an early MST3K episode, which I often felt were a bit "colder" as some people have said compared to later episodes. I'm not too worried about that, especially after how much evidence I see that this group REALLY pays attention to feedback. Really, pretty much every complaint or concern I remember from the first release has been addressed here. We get pressed dvds available after people were afraid they were going to switch to dvd-rs, this time we even get a case with artwork if you order it shipped. It's available worldwide. There was a short bit of explanation in the beginning of the episode, at least hinting at the premise. I see this as an upward slope so far, he're hoping they keep heading uphill.
"There's no Pulitzers in Hell!"-deliciously dark, had me rolling
Fewer freeze frames this time, probably figured the ending slowed things down enough as it was. Neither of the freeze frames were long enough to be full fledged skits, they were pretty much kept to short jokes as opposed to the longer bits they did in Oozing Skull. It worked for them here, but I wouldn't mind a longer skit here and there in the future.
I enjoyed it, though I'll agree with some of the criticisms here in that the riffers seemed a little off. I liked the intro, and there were a couple of very funny moments but what the hell is with that ending? I understand you have financial problems, but that's the best you can come up with? It's like the movie stops completely.

They ran out of money in 67 or 68 so the movie did stop completely, nothing was done again until 72 when they tacked on that cheap ending, I guess they didn't even have enough money to get the original 2 actors in the suites back in for a few hours to do voice over work....
I agree with most of the comments here... I want to like it so much but I still feel an awkwardness/coldness/stiffness about it that I'm hoping will change. having said that, one of my biggest laughs came during the god awful final 15 minutes, when Mary Jo says "Hey what's this button with the picture of a chair with a spring under it?" I probably laughed longest and hardest at that one, but I'm weird that way. I also loved the "Why does it smell like feet?" one... overall, not bad, but I want it to feel more natural... keep practicing guys!
This might be me. But i kinda liked The Oozing Skull a little more. I know that its harder to watch. But for me, Being that the Oozing Skull is far more ridicules movie made the riffing somewhat better. But thats just me. This was good to. But it was hard to get through the last 10 minutes.
My favorite lines are
"Yeah im from the 70's what of it"
"Hold me closer Doomsday Dancer"
"We Will We Will Coxon"
I've been listening intently.
My big question is,
Is Cinematic Titanic 2 worth the 15 bucks or so plus shippage and handling and the several days wait?

I certainly thought so. It's not like they are cranking out a dvd every week that you have to pay $15.00 for. It's supposedly once every 6 weeks or so.

I feel their most recent CT is worth the money. I would rank it as maybe a so-so rifftrax.... but a much better effort this time around. Things felt a little more natural after the first quarter of the movie (the riffing felt a bit too scripted and not natural at times). I felt the first CT was just okay and this one a bit better. If nothing else... it;'s good to support riffers. The last portion of the movie felt a lot like "DEEP HURTING" from the Sandstorm scene in one of the MSTK hercules movies. It wouldn't end!
Personally, I feel Incognito Cinema Warriors is superior in every way... as soon as Rifftrax puts out their new one in August, I'm on it!!
I thought this one was really good...much better than Oozing Skull. The jokes seemed sharper and the skits were all-around better, imo. Definite improvement, for me, over the first one. I'm not saying I think it's got all the kinks worked out, but it seems they're getting there.
