Title: The next CT release will be...
Post by: Flopsy T. Hamster on May 28, 2008, 05:47:31 AM
"Doomsday Machine"!!

I've actually seen this piece of crap unriffed, and can't wait! It's part of the Mill Creek "Nightmare Worlds" box set of 50 crappy movies for one low price. This is one of the most riff-worthy movies I've ever seen, and would have been PERFECT for MST3K. It's everything they could want in a movie. Preposterous plot. A "BJ"... (Hunnicutt from M*A*S*H, that is.) Non-funny comic relief. A spaceship made from random visual effects borrowed from another movie so it never looks the same twice. A twitchy evil astronaut. Explosive decompressions. An ending filmed years later with different actors in non-matching space suits. It really drags near the end, but with some slight trimming, they might be able to pick up the pace.

Awesome!  Glad to see they're back at it!

Apparently, they have three episodes in post production, one of which is probaby "Wasp Woman". They're aiming for a mid-June release for "Doomsday Machine". I just hope they have all their episodes cleared for internet download, and cleared for Canada, too.

Will the DVDs have packaging this time?

Nope, it's a "print your own cover" when you buy from EZtakes.

Ugh. I watched this one on my own as well.

At some point they'll do a movie that DOESN'T make me want to come up with interesting ways to kill myself, right?

In short, this movie teaches us that the human race is better off extinct. I'm not exaggerating at all. It has humans living at what I hope is an exxagerated low.

Still, could be a fun riff.

EZTakes sells the non-riffed version of the movie, and it does appear to be downloadable in Canada. That looks promising. Hopefully, that means the CT release will be as well. If you're wondering about other countries, you might want to check the page for the unriffed DVD:

http://www.eztakes.com/store/movie/The-Doomsday-Machine-Movie-Download.jsp (http://www.eztakes.com/store/movie/The-Doomsday-Machine-Movie-Download.jsp)

It it shows you the purchase price, hopefully the CT release will be available, too. If it says "Not Available In Your Country", you may be out of luck.

They seem to be on a hunt for the next Manos, which is not exactly what I want from them.  But I'll buy everything they sell and roll over as well.

All I want is a damn case for my DVD, dozens of other distributors have managed to do that much for less.

Well, according to the email update I just got, there will be a case this time.

Just got this email..

QuoteHey Everyone,
Thought I'd fill you in on all the happenings here in the rifftopia that is CT. First off, we've got a release date for Cinematic Titanic's Doomsday Machine. The show will be available on DVD and for download on JUNE 19th!

Downloads for Doomsday Machine will again be available through EZtakes. However, DVDs will be available through our online store at CinematicTitanic.com (don't look now, it's not there yet...the store or the dvd ).
Only 2 days After my birfday, but I'll take that as a present anyway ;D

Anyone know if this is going to be available outside the U.S. this time? I'd post over at the forums but I can't be bothered  :)

I guess it depends on who owns the overseas rights to this movie.  Please stay tuned.

I wonder if the version they are selling will be a factory-pressed DVD or a DVD-R. If it's the latter, I might as well just download it and burn it myself (assuming it's available for download in Canada). I don't think the case will be worth the extra cost and the postage. I'll just print one myself. I can understand how people bought the first release felt, though. If you're gonna purchase it though the mail, you deserve to get a case with it.

RAD just posted (on the CT forum) that it will be available for download worldwide. I suppose that means the DVD will be available worldwide, too.

I just posted that question at the CT board. If it is duplicated (DVD-r etc) I will just do the download myself. I assume the case art will be available as well. If it is replicated (DVD-5 glass master stamp etc) then I will order the disc.  Hopefully this time they have already started the manufacturing and we won't have to wait 2 or 3 weeks from ordering to get it.

Looks like the release is scheduled for next Thursday - June 19th. Should give everyone plenty of time to download it for the weekend, if people decide to go that route. The web site's "store" isn't open yet, though. (They're selling the DVD's themselves this time, though the download will still be available through EZTakes.) This leads me to think this is probably not gonna be a pressed DVD. They'll probably just burn them and print the covers as they receive the orders. Can't really blame them, though, as they probably don't have the sales volume to cover the costs of manufacturing DVD's.

Looks like the release is scheduled for next Thursday - July 19th.

Wait, is it next Thursday or July 19? Or have I slipped into a coma overnight for a month? :^)

Heh. Sorry. I was doing work all morning that involved stuff for July, so it was on my mind. (Editted the message so there's no further confusion and/or time travel.  ;))

It would appear that they are "manufactured" DVD's, as Josh mentions in his blog today that they come in a shrink-wrapped DVD case. Good news for those who want in that form. But a delima for those of us that aren't sure if we want to wait for snail-mail. Maybe they'll make the choice for me by making shipping charges to Canada too high.

Ooooh. Download or buy? Download or buy?

Get it NOW and watch it tonight? Get it after a week (Or, judging from last time, a month) and get a nice prepackaged DVD? Pay the extra 5 and shipping, or get it on the cheap and burn it myself? Decisions! Decisions! :^)

Slow as molasses.

"Due to extremely high demand, some of our customers are experiencing slow download times. We are working to resolve this issue and will update this status message when the have it resolved. Thanks for your patience. "

Extremely high demand? You don't say.

I mean are they putting all the strain on their own servers? Have they ever heard of PEER-TO-PEER?!

Haha.  Don't you think they would've learned their lesson after the demand for the last one?  Wow.

Thanks for the info MrTorso.  Paypal locked down my account because my email changed and my bank account # changed, and I can't be bothered to call them and sit on hold for an hour.  I'll just use my credit card through them.

Yay for pressed discs!

Only "some" customers are getting slowed down?  I wonder how some customers are not?

I've been trying to order the download for an hour and it keeps going offline before it gets to the payment confirmation step.  Guess I'll try tomorrow and see if they got more bandwidth or better servers online....

Update: just tried again and they took it down, message up now:

Due to extremely high demand, we had to temporarily take Doomsday off-line. For now, you can still buy a hard DVD from Cinematic Titanic. We are working to resolve this issue and will update this status message as soon as we've fixed it. Thanks for your patience.

I'll have to try it finish it tomorrow and hope that they'll let me.

Even though I ordered the hard copy last night I'm trying the download again today, so far it's going pretty fast.

I ordered a hard copy.  If EZTakes gets slammed again it will probably melt down all over again.  Their best hope is that all the early adopters will be confused by yesterday's message and only come back a few at a time.

My download got to 98% and failed, trying one more time, this time the speed is about 1/2 what it was before.

Update:  Finished downloading this time, burning now....
