I felt like this subject really needed it's own thread, so I made one. What the HELL, dairy council? How can you just leave us hanging like that? Is it a riddle? Am I supposed to know the answer based off of the information presented in the short? Are there hidden clues? Do I need to watch the thing backwards? Do people have theories on just WHY this girl is too good to eat breakfast like the rest of us? Use this class time to discuss, please.

Honestly, what was the point? The "Lets Discuss" ending meant that my tax dollars are going to waste by stopping all education and wondering why some twit does not eat breakfast? Will the answer of this teach the kids math, will it find cures for disease? NO.

Another reason she might not eat is the sound of her clock ticking. It has the EXACT SAME ticking rhythm that the clock at the beginning of Beast of Yucca Flats had. Even Kevin noticed the odd ticking as he was sort of humming the rhythm too. Was the director of the short making a tribute to The Beast of Yucca Flats?
Poor kid was probably too terrified to eat.
I was more curious about why she was so blase' about a narrator and a camera crew in her house, drilling her about her morning routine like like a surprise video deposition. Why does she have to tell those pushy Dairy Council people anything?
I couldn't eat with a disembodied narrotor following me around with the ability to project his imagined thoughts of child negligence and malnutrition.
I think she's Lactose Intolerant. It's her pride that prevents her from telling them so.
I'm beginning to think that her colorful knit hat has something to do with it. She could hide a couple of meals under that thing, easily.

Cathy's father was killed by a vengeful breakfast and she hasn't been able to look at it since.

Maybe the teacher had some answer-key that told what the reason was and the class had to try to figure it out as a group activity? Maybe there are clues, carefully strewn about..
Maybe she's on a hunger strike against the mistreatment of dairy cows. This also causes her to deny herself any other foods for breakfast, but she really like milk, but not at the cost of the poor cows. The dairy council later killed her that day as she was picketing outside her school. One sniper shot to the head ended the situation and hence why there is no video of why she wont eat breakfast. Very sad.
I think she refuses to eat because she wants to know if it's possible for the human stomach to digest itself when the low PH acid of the stomach accumulates to a high enough level.
I think she's more of a brunch person.
Her mother insists on fixing breakfast with her feet just like the women in Petaluma Chicken.
I am more puzzled why Kevin misidentified Canned Chop Suey as Gumbo.

Perhaps this short is meant to teach critical thinking and logic and there is no right answer as to why Cathy didn't eat breakfast.

Because she can't figure out the logic of the short film she's in and then she gets further confused by the chicken short right afterwards and then she watches Design for Dreaming and literally starves to death confused!
My wife's name is Kathy and she doesn't eat breakfast either, so this short has prompted me to relentlessly drill her with questions as she wakes up in the morning until she leaves.

Maybe it's because of a traumatic experience she had. I'm personally subscribing to the theory that a bit of overcooked omelette leapt right off of the plate and strangled her dad.

BTW, I think Cathy is the most positive role model a short has portrayed. Normally, people just scramble around, struggling to live up to the disembodied voice's judgemental tyrade and imperious commands. She just gives it knowing looks, shakes of the head, devious smiles, and snide come-backs.
