Am I the only one who finds the farty music of the Film Crew DVDs even more obnoxious than the hold tunes of the Rifftrax intro? It sounded like Joel performed it on the pork-orina.
Then again, perhaps I'm just spoiled by the Clowns In the Sky days... since the cast is so musically talented, it makes me expect a lot more, I guess.
"...hold please..."
Yeah, it's pretty annoying. But theme music has never been a strong point for these guys. Yes, I think the mst3k theme music it pretty lame too.
Yeah! Really!
Definitly Needs a more 'Rocking' tune instead of Circus Music :-\

Whaaaaaaat? The original intro music with Joel is
timeless and after hearing it hundreds and hundreds of times I still love it, like the Kids In the Hall theme. Change your attitude, young man.

I know, I am ashamed. Being a mstie you'd think I'd
have to love it, right? I just don't.
...
Well, um... i kinda' like The Film Crew music. It's really fun and boing-y.

I think the mst3k theme music is ok, the theme lyrics are pretty uncreative...especially in the Mike years. Sorry :)
The Film Crew and Rifftrax both sound like someone was playing with the audio software.

Oh, feel free to appreciate the boingery! I am actually glad you typed that, Rude, because I think you've hit on exactly why I
don't like it. Not a fan of the boinging; to me it's far too in-your-face, all "GET READY FOR SOME BIG-TIME ZANYNESS!!" It's like the
Catalina Caper of theme songs. I hate being told when to find something funny.
But perhaps the music is an ironic statement, in which case it's awesome.
Quote from: LadyKenobiI hate being told when to find something funny.
Really? You feel like the music is
telling you that you'd better find The Film Crew funny? Like it's forcing you?
You don't hear voices telling you to kill me, do you?
Seriously though, comedies with weird theme songs have always kinda' creeped me out. I think it comes from back when i was a kid, and
Taxi used to come on really late at night after all the other funny sitcom-type shows. But i didn't watch it for years because that opening theme song was depressing and it freaked me the hell out as kid. And there's lots of shows like that:
MASH,
Cheers,
Extras.
Depressing theme song music for sitcoms and comedies have never sat well with me.
I'm just fine with the boing-y.
-Rude
Not a fan of that song. I keep the sound down during it.
Too boingy, too forcefully zany.
I can't say I ever really noticed it. I'm too busy thinking, "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Another Film Crew movie!" :)

Hopefully you've heard the film version of the MASH theme song that has lyrics to it. If you haven't, well, the version you've heard is the like the Looney Tunes theme compared to that.

Yeah... singing "
Suicide is painless" right before MASH came on every week always got me in the mood for some funny hijinks. ;)

MST3K Theme > Film Crew theme > Rifftrax theme
I dig the zaniness of the music. :^)

I hear you, I avoided Taxi as a kid because from the theme song it seemed to say "Do you like Rhoda? If you, get ready for some more boring crap". Poor choice of intro music.

Yeah, I enjoy a little subtlety in my theme music. Like the one from
Newhart-- now there was some good stuff. It was quietly happy music, but always left open the possibility that Bob was going to wake up next to Suzanne Pleshette at the end of the day.
I just got my first Film Crew DVD today. I really liked the music. The "hold please" thing was odd but I thought the randomness of the music was creative. I clicked this thread hoping someone would have a link to download it or something...
So put in the minority who says, "I like it very much!"
Film Crew theme is terrible
MST theme is GREAT
Rifftrax theme is decent

Basically where I stand... all though I don't like the Film Crew theme either..... but it's definitely better than Rifftrax
I like the theme song too.
I also clicked this thread expecting to hear favorable things about it.
I had it going through my head at work a couple times,
and I didn't mind one bit. It made me more awake.
Boingy, if you will. Won't you?
Cinematic Titanic really kicks ass though.
I hope the score from the trailer is their theme music.
I can't get that one out of mind for the life of me.

If you watched the trailer, you've gotten a taste of the theme music already. As the most "musical" member of the Cinematic Titanic (meaning, I own some instruments), I was entrusted to head up "Project Theme Song". From the get-go, we decided it would be an instrumental theme. We didn't have a big, Gilliganesque premise to explain, like in the theme song Joel and I wrote back in 1988 (with Charlie Erickson on the music side). As soon as I saw Joel's logo for the show, I started hearing horns – big, bombastic, horns, like a 60's Mancini theme. Trace's lovingly crafted Time Tube also had a space-age, cold war vibe to me, which re-enforced where I was headed. When Frank mentioned how much he loved the "Man From U.N.C.L.E." theme when he was a kid I knew he'd be on-board with what I had in mind (though what I said at the time was probably more along the lines of "Yes Frank, we know you're old").
http://cinematictitanic.com/wpmu/So yes the theme you hear in the trailer is what they are going to be using for the show :D

lmao, me too ;D
Wasn't incredibly fond of the first Rifftrax theme, new one is a bonus. The Film Crew theme was just kinda "blah" like it was thrown together at the last second or yanked from a shelf of generic sounding themes.

I agree there! It gets stuck in my head adn refuses to leave! Thanks alot J Elvis!!!
Watched The Wild Women of Wongo the other night and that 'boing-bong...' is Still stuck in my head.. :speechless:
I love the MST3k themes, I think they are really catchy.
The best comedy opening theme ever is for Malcolm in the middle. Best theme music.
Agreed on Malcom. When you hire They Might Be Giants to do a comedy theme, you have every right to expect greatness.
Shit, I guess I better cancel my album of all-boingy theme music then. :'(
