Somebody was going to start one.
Wow. That was like, totally awesome! Easily Mike's best solo effort since Roadhouse, with great riffs on Keanu ("Spray on glue?"), Busey and Swayze. I think you could tell that Mike missed having a partner help him with the riffing, as DA is all over this one, contributing some fine gags of his own.
What a stupid, stupid movie. What a great, great rifftrax.

What a stupid, stupid movie...
I'm going to go out on a limb and admit that I actually kind of like this movie. This is the second film that I haven't had to rent/buy because I already own it, which is nice. Having said that, I am still very excited to hear Mike comment on Keanu early in his career, Swayze somewhat
washed up, and an always ridiculous Gary Busey.

I like the movie too. It's much easier to watch than Cocktail or Crossroads. It's still an extremely stupid movie. I think it adds a certain quaint charm to proceedings.
Jeez, I might have to go and rent this movie, because Netflix doesn't have it >:(
Well, at least I didn't have to go up to the counter with 'Crossroads' :P
My local rental store doesn't have it. Hmmm. :-",
Will somebody please do a "shit" count on this movie? I think it must be close to the count from the South Park episode.
It was also brave of the filmmakers to show the nude girls at the drug house since they risked having the audience notice the lack of curves on Lori Petty.
And we learned it's safe to pull the ripcord at 50 feet!
I haven't seen this movie in quite a long time, and the main thing I noticed is how terrible Keanu's acting is in this movie. I think that he has grown up quite a bit, and has put in some decent performances later in his career, but he's so wooden in this movie, it's ridiculous.
But Gary Busey is fantastic as always. I just love watching this guy.
Bravo! This one is equal to if not better then Roadhouse imo. Great job Mike!
Ewww, this was a stinker. Okay I know all the movies have been stinkers of course, but this was the worst one.
The riff was great as always, but I still kept wondering how much longer the movie had left. God this movie sucked. I would rather watch the 2 Tom Cruise riffed movies back to back, than watch this mess again.
This was awesome. I think this one packed the most belly laughs for me. It's up there with Road House. And Disembaudio's bits were very funny this time around. The "adrenaline updates" at the end were a hoot. This was a long movie, and you could feel the strain building as that last scene dragged on and on. Poor Mike.
Did anyone else sense that Mike seemed "different" without another riffer by his side?...aside from the fact that he didn't have another riffer by his side.
What I mean is with XMen and TopGun he sounded much more relaxed and it sounded like he was having alot of fun. But in PB he didnt have that same 'relaxed' level of comfort in his riffing.
I hope in the future they can permenantly add Kevin or Bill as a second riffer.
Still a great job and a funny rifftrax. I liked the comment about "what O/S makes that kind of sound". As a computer tech, nothing chaps my ass more then when movies add stupid little sound effects to the computer scenes to make the computer sound more like a computer.
its good to see good feedback for this, when i first saw it i was afraid nobady was interested. I cant wait to watch this.
Ya know, when I first heard about xXx, I thought, "Cool! Here's a chance to take in a big blockbuster action flick that I never got around to. It might actually be good on its own!" *WRONG!*
So then came Top Gun, and I thought, "Gee! Top Gun! Never saw that one in the '80s but all my schoolyard chums insisted it was the best movie ever! This might actually be cool on its own!" *WRONG!*
Along came Point Break, and I thought, "OK! The FBI goes after a surfing gang of criminals and it stars Keanu Reeves! This might be that special brand of bad that makes it really enjoyable on its own!"
*WRONG AGAIN!*
I will never trust any Rifftrax movie that I haven't seen. I am now convinced that any Rifftrax movie I didn't see has been not-seen for a reason and should remain that way until there's a hilarious commentary to make it better.
That said, this was a darned good Rifftrax!
"Get over here, we're trying to summon Captain Planet!"

I thought that too gammer. I felt like Mike was just reading his lines to himself and not an audience. I found it very dry but it did have a good ribbing here and there. I will have to watch it again to have a full opinion, but this one was probably my least favourite Rifftrax.
I vaguely recalled PB's existance as a movie trailer back in the day. I recall thinking,"Wow. Surfing FBI agents. What a stupid premise." and then moved on with my life.
If not for Rifftrax, I would have been content to leave it years behind me never having seen it in much the same way I acknowledge Pluto's existance, but have never actually been there and have only seen extremely fuzzy images of it from NASA.
I'm not so sure this movie even needed Riff treatment. Most of Keanu's lines were delivered in such a wooden, retarded manner that the movie practically riffs itself!
I thought Mike sounded pretty much like himself. But who knows? Maybe he's recovering from the flu. Maybe he was tired. He's not a robot, people!
My favorite line:
"Punch it! Punch it! Punch it!"
Mike: "Try the Tiger Uppercut!"
I nearly fell out of my chair on that one. Although this rifftrax was not as good as the Star Trek rifftrax, it was still pretty funny.
I am stunned to find out that Point Break has a 76% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. I thought it was an utterly repellent movie, but great riffing. It seemed to be the exact same premise as Road House, in that it stars Swayze as a dude with Buddha-like inner peace who kills a whole bunch of people. There were some nice Road House references too, like "is this time to be not nice?" I missed part of the movie because I had to leave the room and didn't want to risk interupting the perfect synch technology while recording, so I'm not sure, but I don't think Mike ever comments on the freaky way Swayze walks. What is with that? When he's walking next to Keanu he takes like twice as many steps, and he has that weird gate, like maybe he's clenching something in his kiester.
I very much enjoyed this Rifftrax... it did contain about 3 Rifftraxs worth of DisembAudio though.
Aw, give him a break. It reminds me of that song: Naughty Toasters Need Love Too.
I would have to say this is the best solo Rifftrax. I couldn't stop laughing after they tossed the dog. It just came out of nowhere. But don't take my word for it. Bah dum dum!

It's GEORDI ya n00b! Just kidding. Nice to see a ST:TNG reference in the threads... I guess.
what stng reference? that was clearly a green acres reference.

It was? Hmm... I guess I missed that one. I figured you were referring to an EMP, Electromagnetic Pulse, and Geordi LaForge from ST:TNG having to rely on an electronic seeing device in order to... well.. see. Guess I was only reading what I wanted to read, natch!
I liked this one better than Top Gun or XxX, maybe even X-men. The movie was dumb but watchable and the riffs were awesome. Gary Busey is too easy, tho, Mike went too far with the crazed DUI references, but most were quite good, anyway.
The movie violated just about every conventional FBI procedure, as a total layman I could see most of it, but I bet a real FBI consultant could point out about a thousand more. I mean, just obvious stuff like, you don't send your undercover operative to the raid, you don't go BACK to the perp once your cover is blown, and most of all, you aid in a Bankrobbery where you are responsible for another cop's death? Oh yeah, you are off the force and in jail. Then Busey strikes a superior officer on a crime scene and they let him take the criminal cop, (Reeves), away in his car??!! Alone?!! THEN, he lets the guy escape but at the end of the movie Reeves still has his badge?!?! Um...
One note, though: this was my absolute FAVORITE DisembAudio vehicle. He did a great job because he was commenting more on the action in the movie along WITH Mike as opposed to carrying on conversations out side the movie. I always liked DA, but this was his best work, bravo!
I agree. This is DA's finest work. I hope he starts to jump in more often with on-topic riffin'. :^)
I actually saw this film in the theater because i was a huge Kathryn Bigelow fan at the time who'd directed the cool vampire flick NEAR DARK. It was also said that James Cameron had written a draft of the script and now i hope that isn't true lol. It's unbelievable just how bad Keanu is in this film, it's like he's doing an impression of himself from other films only not as good. Loved the wiping crap on your face line. Good Riff.
btw Kathryn Bigelow hasn't made a decent film since Near Dark.

Yeah, man! When I saw James Cameron's name on the credits my heart sank a little. What the hell was he associated with this stinker for?
Oh well, probly made him plenty of bank to make better movies, I imagine.
This just might be me. But i just didnt find it all that funny. I mean some of the jokes where funny. But still no where as funny as Crossroads, Roadhouse and Star Trek V or even Top Gun. I got really bored with the political joke & all the other jokes about feces just got annoying. Not to say i didnt find funny at all. Its just i think that some of the others were far better. Maybe if Kevin or Bill where on this track too. It might have been better. I know i might be in the minority here. But overall i just didnt find it all that funny. I would put this one down there with X-men and The Fifth Element.
I'm kinda on the fence about it right now. Perhaps it's because I'm up way later than normal :P
It was funny, no doubt, but I'm wondering if DisembAudio put in a little too much, or Mike was so itching to have another voice to play off of, that he enlisted DisembAudio to fill the void...
Well, Whoa, I guess.
I like Point Break. I realize it's corny, and I usually detest the "pure adrenaline" movies. I HATED xXx. Vin Diesel is easily one of the worst actors of all-time. But I didn't think Point Break was dull or pointless (No pun intended). I mean, having an FBI agent learning to surf to crack a case sounds ridiculous, but that was actually addressed in the movie by John McGinley's character. He pointed out how absurd it was, but it worked... Sort of. Me and a friend of mine are constantly making fun of Keanu and Swayze's characters in the movie because they're corny, but they're not really hateable like Vin Diesel. They have talent. It's not always apparent, especially in Keanu Reeves (I couldn't finish the two Matrix sequels), but I did like him in Point Break, River's Edge, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, Speed, and Dracula. Granted, he was laughable in Dracula, but that in itself was entertaining. Every scene he was in made me laugh, so I was entertained.
Finally got around to watching this last night (can you believe I had to RESERVE it at the library). My local video store didn't have this one either, but the clerk said, "Oh, cool movie," completely without sarcasm when I asked him about it (this was at Blockbuster). And actually, it wasn't a half bad movie. Better than Top Gun, Cocktail and xXx anyway. Seemed like it would be good mindless dollar movie fare. I thought the riffing was up to par. Good stuff. On to Phantom Menace!
I enjoyed this one quite alot. It's nice to see that Mike share's my appreciation for John C. McGinley's method of yell-acting. If only he'd called Keanu "Rebecca" or something...
I don't know about the rest of you, but I kept having MST moments while watching this. Whenever Gary Busey parked his car by the side of the road, all I could think was "MITCHELL!" with accompanying wak-a-chicka wak-a-chicka wak-a-chickas. Additionally, during the final parachute sequence I kept hoping Mike (as Keanu) would shout something like "Hey guys! Any of your parachutes smell like acid?"
This VERY close to being my favorite one. Well worth the buy!

agreed. these are my fave kinda riff movies: the kind you'd watch on cable on a lazy sunday afternoon...or when you're sick. like i am now. *cough cough* time to lay down and watch this again ;)

This felt like much less of a product endorsement delivery service than xXx- I can imagine that someone behind it was a genuine, enthusiastic surfer or skydiver or something, and wanted to express themselves in a movie. They failed, but that's not the point.
xXx has nothing genuine in it anywhere (well, maybe Meltyface, but it's hard to tell with Sam Jackson.) It's the pinnacle of marketing ploys disguised as a movie, and I hate it like I hate 'the 20'.
I enjoyed this one. The movie had a goofy charm that I couldn't resist -- and I tried to resist it, believe me I tried. I liked Mike's Road House references, and there was even a Top Gun reference. I also got a chuckle out of his Reagan impression. All in all, a very satisfying RiffTrax.
Another solid solo Mike effort. I realize that the concensus around here is that additional riffer = better product, but I don't really see it. The only solo Mike effort that I found mediocre was Fifth Element. The rest of the ones I've seen (Point Break, Road House, Crossroads, Cocktail) have all been good to outstanding. While I wouldn't put Point Break quite on the same level as Road House, it was pretty damn funny. The only downer was that the movie just dragged and limped to the ending. It was like watching a football game where you see two minutes left on the game clock but it's a half hour before the final whistle blows. That said, Mike did drop a number of gems in this one and he didn't leave many missed opportunities behind. Gary Busey is a gift from the Riff Gods. B+
A good fun film. The actual film itself was plenty of fun too, and is (like has already been said) one of those excellent lazy Sunday afternoon efforts. Both film and riff were much better than xXx so well done Mike. Keep up the good work and maybe give us more films like this.
Swayze = riff quality.
i just did this one for a group of friends. It was the first time they had ever heard of rifftrax and they hadnt even heard of ol' mst3k they were dying in laughter and im pretty dog gone sure they will be more rifftrax. woot.
ps that was easily one of the funniest rifftrax i have seen.
QuoteI very much enjoyed this Rifftrax... it did contain about 3 Rifftraxs worth of DisembAudio though.
Agreed, although I hugely enjoyed the "Adrenaline Updates," almost as much as Busy's Golden Girls shirt at the end of the movie. And did you catch that one of the bars in the movie was named "Patrick's Road House?" Precious.
This Rifftrax made me reflect very deeply on how movies get made. I don't mean the physical act of shooting, editing, composition, etc-- I mean in the script stage, before you buy a single surfboard. As a writer I think in terms of the script more than anything else.
Who read the script for Point Break and was all, "This is GREAT!" How did this happen?
Similar to what Sarcasm Made Easy had done, I rewatched Point Break with a few friends. They had all seen a small handful of other Rifftrax, but everyone agreed that this one was pretty hilarious. Although a good chunk of the Disembaudio stuff and a surprising amount of riffs that fell flat for the group... when Mike was on everybody was rolling. He locked onto a number of recurring targets and nailed a good amount of lines that had all of us laughing out loud. Gary Busey huffing butane and donating his Chicklet teeth to his son, the great "Lori Petty is a man" collection, the Road House callbacks, the incomparable Keanu... he went to the well over and over with those and yet it never ceased being funny.
I think this is an underappreicated Mike solo effort. I need to give a bunch of Rifftrax a second (or first) viewing... but I think Point Break will sneak into my top 5. Anytime a movie features a car chase scene, I will think of Gary Busey simply driving home from the studio lot.
Just watched this one for the first time. LOVED the Fox and the Hound reference.
I've finally got this DVD and am off to download the RiffTrax. What the heck, I'm only a year late! :)
I just watched this one for the first time. Wow. Just... Wow. the lack of acting in this film is astounding.
I finally got around to watching this one. I just thought it was an alright rifftrax. There were definitely some good riffs in there, but overall it was a bit lacking.
