Title: Are we not supposed to use the (NTSC)5 Star Edition?
Post by: Janitor on August 14, 2007, 02:57:58 PM
Because it falls out of sync within the first ten minutes for me. Is this happening for anyone else?

Does it include the theatrical cut?  We used a disc that gave you the option.  The theatrical cut is the one to use.

Note for re-authorers: When you rip the DVD, you dont get a choice of which one to use, with either ReJig or DVD Decrypter. It will only give you the special edition. Unless Im doing something wrong.

I used DVDDecryptor with no problems, 2 titles, I just picked the slightly shorter one.

I found it. Just never used it on a DVD with more than one movie on a disk before.

I'm using this edition:

(https://forum.rifftrax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fec1.images-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F51BH6F6DY9L._AA240_.jpg&hash=151ff2e28f742f8087c7be4b31ffb6f6e5cbbdab)

Is it going to be alright? I only ask this because of that Star Trek 6 mishap with the single disc and double disc discrepencies.

Also, it's the 2:25:00 one, right? not the 2:33:00?

Yes.  This has been clarified several times, and it is in the readme.  Any version that includes the "theatrical" version is perfectly fine.

I just downloaded it and am ready to re-author. Then I noticed the two versions on my newly-purchased ID4 disc. I needed to know which version to use. My first stop was at the RiffTrax store and read the description of the ID4 RiffTrax. Nothing. Subsequently, I checked the forum and went straight to this, the ID4 forum. This thread was the first mention of it that I found. So I have not seen this "clarified several times," thank you very much.

I highly recommend that you indicate which version to use at the website store. Prominently display it.

Beers,

A good place to look is gammer's fan site rifftraxfan.com (http://rifftraxfan.com).  He always lists the correct DVD version to use (http://www.rifftraxfan.com/rifferbreakdown.html)...

But I think that it might be a good idea for us forum regulars to start a thread in each of the child boards that clarifies which DVD versions work and which ones don't.  Even though it has been "clarified several times", not everyone reads the 20 Q's threads or knows where to find this exact info.  A stickied thread in each board would help in organizing this info, and help avoid forum sprawl on these topics.

Just a thought.

Well if you had bothered to read your readme file then you would have seen the following

Quote
-= Independence Day =-

-= If given the option, please select the "Theatrical Version" =-

-= 54 CHAPTERS =-

There is a reason they call it "readme"

But I do agree they should start putting this information in the catalogue pages

Flamegrape has a point though.  If there are multiple versions of the movie out there, they should make it very clear which version to use, and not hide this critical info in a readme.

The readme file is not the first thing that I read. Syncing it up with the DA cues is near the middle of the work flow, which is usually the first time I look at that readme file. I would have eventually noticed it.

I have the 5 star edition and the only snag I had was when I ripped it using DVD Decrypter it lost its "anamorphicness"!  So when you play it  has squished look to it. I set up rejig to rip it again when I left for work this morning and I hope it rips it correctly.

There was a lot of "drift" when we watched it the hard way (the way it's designed).  I have the reauthor going now, but it sure put a damper on the party last night.

I just felt like complaining, I'm done.

Mine was Flawless!
I used DVDshrink to rip from the 5 Star version & Nero to burn it.
Pinnacle Studio 9 Captured the burned copy Perfectly with No dropped frames, and then converted the RiffTrax to make the DVD all the way through (2hrs 24min time frame) with 'maybe' a 1/2 second drift between the two.
I'M VERY SATISFIED! :clap:

I had the same problem, which i posted in another thread.  Once you reauthor and burn with dvd shrink,  It will keep the "anamorphicness" when you play it on a set-top dvd player, but it wont be when you play it on your PC.

Admittedly, everytime there is an extended cut, this should be on the product page.  It has been for the past few days, but should be from the beginning.

As noted, it was addressed on the forum in several other threads, information was included in the readme, and there are also a super unknown secret tip I present to you if you want to know what version we used:  The Amazon link on the product page goes to the version that we used.

If you feel like complaining, at least help us address your complaint.  We've pretty much established that RiffTrax work fine every time, whether you're reauthoring the DVD or watching it the "hard easy way" (how a majority of the people watch the trax).  If yours happens not to, please provide us with anything that may be out of ordinary about your setup, (and also make sure you were watching the right version.)  Were you using a HD disc?  A VCD?  A downloaded AVI?  Amazon Unbox?  etc.

We know that RiffTrax work, so when people say that they don't, we want to know why.

The only one i could never synch up right was the first Star Trek they did. Everytime it got to where they meet God, it would lose sync. Im not sure if i have a wierd version or what, but it was always a pain.

This is complicated further if you are creating an AVI for streaming playback on XMBC...  it's the incorrect aspect ratio in either case.

I can jump in here. This happened with me and ID4. I was playing the DVD (Theatrical cut, i triple-checked) on my Playstation 2 along with the mp3 freshly un-zipped inside iTunes on my laptop.

The track refused to stay synced. It spiraled out of control very quickly and it became obvious within 1-2 minutes that it was no longer behaving the way it should. This also happened awhile back with X-men, with the exact same setup.

However, I've also used it with no problems on every other rifftrax (including a 2nd attempt with X-men the night after the failed attempt). I'm concerned its a playback issue with my laptop not putting out the audio at the right rate, or my Playstation not playing ball. We didn't notice any distortion of audio or video on either device that would indicate a rate issue.

Any ideas?

Aside from reauthoring, not much. I always find that playing the audio on computers will run into hiccups just because of all the various processes running,anything could go wrong.

My advice is when you do run into a rare rifftrax that does that, you can:
1.Reauthor it.
2.Use your mp3 player(if possible)
3.If you have an mp3 cd player, make an mp3 cd with a couple of those tough rifftrax on there.
4.The mighty sharecrow(But if you really like watching them on the tv, you can always get an s-video cable. I love mine.

Hmm.  What's the length supposed to be in total?  I'm trying to use the "theatrical version" from the 5-Star Edition, but it's just not quite right.  It's 2:24:46 in length, but the DA sync lines don't match up after the third time.

SAMPLES:
That game couldn't have been pretty  6:09 -> 6:09 (+0s)
But the infrared is totally off the map  14:13 -> 14:29 (+ 16s)
Pentagon officials have retrofit...  38:48 -> 39:22 (+ 34s)
Release...me... 1:22:23 -> 1:23:17 (+54s)
How bout our two delivery boys? 2:13:34 -> 2:14:28 (+ 54s)

It's almost as if there are extra scenes, albeit short ones, totaling 54 seconds.  It's weird.  Anyone else having this problem?

Oooookay.  Not sure what happened, but I think I've got it now.  Yay.  I re-ripped the audio, selecting the 2-channel audio, and saved it uncompressed.  NOW it seems like it'll match up well.

Anyhoo, as always, thanks to the RiffTrax team for kicking so much booty.

Okay, I jumped the gun.

The second half is pretty close.  It's dead on at the middle and a fraction of a second off toward the end.  But then I noticed some of the earlier ones are still off.  I don't have time to mess with it now, so I'll investigate further later.

Okay, fine.  I don't really get what was going on, but I've got it now.  Extracting the audio from the theatrical version wasn't working until I ripped ONLY the theatrical version in reauthor mode.  Then it worked.  Considering the audio I was getting was still the same length and not 9 minutes longer, I don't understand why it was off in parts.

But oh well.  I gots it now, and I's gonna have me a happy-ass weekend.  Yay.

I am having this exact same problem.  This has been the most pain-in-the-ass project of all the ones I've done thus far (including Transformers 2).  The DVD I owned had a scratch on it that made it impossible to rip, so I had to go and buy a whole new DVD (the wal-mart "limited edition") and I used DVDfab to rip the theatrical version to an ISO, mounted that and used rejig to demux.  The sample cornjob posted is the same as mine, towards the end its off by about fifty-six seconds.  It's fine through the first half hour, but after that it gets consistently out of sync.  It's become extremely frustrating and my frustration is only fueling my resolve to get this damn thing done.
