I was looking at Mystery Science Theater 3000 DVDs on amazon.com, and I noticed that Volume 10 seems to be out of print, ???what happened? Does this have anything to do with the the fact that a Godzilla movie is included? Will it be back in print soon? A little help here would be appreciated!
The long and short of it is Legal Issues. They stopped printing it and i dont think they plan on printing it again (i could be wrong though) Right now it seems that they are focused on Volume 11. So i think your best bet if you really want it, is to fork over the 100 bucks or whatever its going for now. They may possibly have those episodes on You Tube as well. But i havent checked it out.

Wow, that was quick, thanks alot! I guess I'll just fork over the cash. That'll teach me to wait on purchasing an MST DVD.
The same thing seems to have happened with Volume 9. WHICH I DON'T HAVE YET! :grr:
I was lucky enough to get Volume 10 at the last minute though. The moral of this story: Don't wait to pick up Volume 11.

It was a rights issue with the Godzilla movie. No word yet on if they are trying to secure them or not.

This is what many people believe, but hasn't been confirmed from Rhino.
Another possibility was a lawsuit - Retromedia vs. Bill Rebane - since this set included GIANT SPIDER INVASION.

Back to vol. 10 though.... you can still find these in some retail places. Even with the $40-$60 price, you can make a good profit selling them on ebay. I sold off 3 when these went OOP.

Thanks for the link! It apparently was settled in April (or he was allowed to speak of it in April, you know this stupid legal stuff i.e. Huey Lewis can't talk about the Ghostbusters lawsuit), so perhaps they are planning a re-release. It took a while after WB made their mistake with Superman box set for them to actually re-release that, so there's probably still a laundry list of stuff that has to be done before V. 10 is out again. Excuse me while I freak out about V. 9!
Not to mention MST3K the Movie, which I've lost all hope on! :-[

Sorry but until today I never hear of DAP, do I download it or is it one of those trading things? Again, sorry for my ignorance. :-",
You can download them from the site but their method is far far from perfect. You can cruise over to myspleen.net and use bit torrents and get them slighty faster. If you have a good usenet server there are several up right now on the MST3K binary group.
bah the method is fine, it's just not the hip way to do it, if you can run bittorrent, you can run edonkey.
I eventually got it but the annoying e-donkey pop up that can only be solved by crippling IE was tiresome since I have programs that need IE to be fully operational. I totally understand why they have to it that way since the bandwidth would be ridiculous. I have gotten most of the DAPs from downloading from usenet and trading with other people.

Sorry to say, but this is all confusing me, rifftrax is about as far as I go with this kind of thing. I would like it very much if someone could direct me to a place where I could learn all this stuff. So I'm guessing I could use a DVD burner to put this stuff on a disc, right?
I messaged the staff at tvshowsondvd.com and this is what I heard back:
>Joe has sent the following email:
>Me and some users on the forum at rifftrax.com are wondering what
>happened to Volumes 9&10 of Mystery Science Theater 3000. It seems
>as though they're out of print, I looked on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles
>and Overstock.com and it all looks to be the same deal. Will they
>ever be back in print, please clear this up for us.
>
>Ps. Great site.
I think there was a rights issue with volume 10 - it was pulled off
the shelves shortly after being released. I don't know what happened
with volume 9 though.

Well start at the FAQ (http://dapcentral.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=FAQ&file=index&myfaq=yes&id_cat=18&categories=The+eDonkey+FAQ+%28or%2C+HOW+DO+I+DOWNLOAD+FILES%3F%3F%3F%29&parent_id=0)
...or you can go to myspleen.net and d/l them directly to your computer. If you don't have a lot of room on your hard drive, you can always copy them to a CD-R to watch on your computer later. That is to say that if you're like me (and I know I am) and your computer isn't equipped with a DVD burner... As for the copy of the MST3K Movie, I purchased a copy from cheepnis.com for like $7-8 bucks plus S&H... Here's a link to the store, as the parent entity, mst3k.org has since moved... http://www.cupandblade.com/store/catalog/index.php (http://www.cupandblade.com/store/catalog/index.php)
Yeah it seems Cheepnis is has decided to ignore the old rules of not selling commercially available stuff.
...or if your convenience would bother you for violating ape la... I mean copyright law, then there's always MST3KGuy's.com. He only trades/sells/produces DVD's and VHS tapes of non-Rhino episodes and other 'rarities' as well, such as a disk with the 'deleted' scenes from the movie. Mind you the source material was obtained from a low quality camcorder that was snuck into the theater. Then again I don't see anyone at the studio rushing out a pressing of an 'extended' version of the movie either.......
I am looking forward to 11, I skipped 10(the only one I skipped) I also have a VHS copy of the MST3K film also=)
You can rent the episodes from volume 10 on Netflix.

Yeah but over on mst3k.com's tape trading they said it was ok to trade the movie if it was a broadcast version, which it has been on starz and other cable channels several times. He definitely should not be selling the shorts vol 3 as that is still available via that website.
i was lucky to get vol. 10 for my b.day (it came out the day before) so i got it just in time. still don't have vol. 9 though-i am a bit slow i guess!

Go to http://www.rhino.com/mst3k/ they have volumes 1-8 (1&3 are unavailable at Amazon.com) as well as volume 11 and "MST3K: The Essentials", but 9&10 are still MIA. I've resolved to spend all of my 'DVD cash' on MST3K and Film Crew until I have all of the volumes and single movie releases, its the best way to avoid paying so much. I'll Buy all that's in print until I have it all, and then I will buy the out of print items (including MST3K-The movie). Thanks for all of the help guys.

For the completely reasonable price of only $30. >:(
Actually, now that I think of it, 30 bucks for 3 discs isn't so bad, compared to over 40 for the 4 disc collections, but considering most of us already had Manos on DVD and VHS, it's kind of a rip.
Yeah it sucks to pay full MSRP on top of shipping and handling. I had Manos on VHS and the single DVD and I had the shorts vol 3 on VHS too.
the more manos the better (i say this sarcastically of course!) :gouge: :gouge:
A DAP question....
Recently downloaded a version of Revenge of the Creature - won't get into specifics as to where from.
The very beginning where the "Colored Light" versions of Mike, Tom, Gypsy and Magic Voice are being pulled back into the SOL is missing from the episode.
I'd like to get a complete copy but I'd rather not waste my time looking if there isn't one available on the web. Can anyone tell me if a complete one is out there?
Also, it's 99.9% certain that Volume 10 got pulled because of Godzilla vs. Megalon. I'd tell you why I believe that (and who was responsible) but it was just this argument that got me bounced off the MST3K Discussion Board..... >:(
dipshits! so pull that episode from the set! teenage strangler is the best one on there anyways! (i seriously watch that one a few times a week)
can you send me a message w/ your theories-i am curious!

It has the DAP logo in the credits. I'd show you a screengrab but it's during the credits so it doesn't really prove anything.
But it has the logo. As does the
Star Force (Fugitive Alien 2) I just got that has part of the "Capt. Joe Intervention" skit missing and the video from the gunfight right after Ken sees his fake mother looks like shit. And you'd think since it's a Sandy Frank film people would try to put the best version up there that 'savailable since it will never be on DVD - same with
Revenge of the Creature. Not that it's Sandy Frank but will most likely never be on Rhino - Universal owns it and even if they would let Rhino lease it, it would probably be for so much money Rhino wouldn't touch it.
(or maybe people who sell copies try to make sure the best copies aren't available for download?).
Someone on another board once asked why everyone was so upset about what Rhino was going to release and when since everything is available on the DAP....and now I think I know the answer to that question. As a rule it looks like the Sci-Fi's are in good to acceptable shape and the CC's are better than nothing.

The DAP distributes it's files only 1 way, from a free stand alone edonkey server using a whitelist. All files have the encode release date in the name. eg MST3K - S33 - 20070701 - MST3K-TM Press Kit.avi . So every file is verified and has a known history.
The files at some point may have come from the DAP, a long time ago when they were the best available, but they aren't now. you didn't get your files from the DAP or they would be the current versions that I have . Who knows what has happened to those files since they were downloaded years ago, corrupted? transcoded? cut? At the very least outdated.
I'm guessing you purchased someones old DVD set or something.

Okay....I might have earlier versions. I haven't tried eDonkey yet.
Speaking of Volume 10, does anyone who has Netflix know what the wait time is like for the DVDs there? I can't check since I'm not a member, but I'd definitely join up if I can get the Volume 10 DVDs in a reasonable amount of time.
no wait
Awesome, thanks!
I found 2 vol 10s last christmas. 1 at best buy and 1 and circuit city. I ended up selling one on ebay for 165.
Vol 11 is out and I doubt it's going out of print anytime soon. I saw like 10 at best buy today. Volume 9 is another story. I'm not sure what's up with it but I do know an FYE by me that still has one left. It's 69.99 though. :(
