With a new physical set hopefully...

Yep - that's an option.
Luckily I want to go all digital again, as they aren't shipping outside of US, Canada and UK this time.
Ack! I mean like physical location sets, as opposed to greenscreen.
Ah, that makes sense - Yeah, I would prefer that too, but I doubt it will be the case, unfortunately.

Pretty Nice!
The one thing that I wish that would return (to both RiffTrax and MST) is the writing room. Where they all sit around together, watching the movie over and over and try to crack each other up.
Yeah, I would like to know who the head writer is this time, I liked the last season a lot, but I didn't like it as much as the two before it.
I did like how this season was paced in terms of riff density, though.
And the first movie is...
Battle Beyond the Stars!
The next movie reveal is...
Deathsport

There's going to be a watch-along in about an hour - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl9VfwSQcuA
Luckily I am working from home today and should be able to run it while I work :)
Hopefully they will announce another title too.
Do they really want to fund a new season?? There is a live stream on You Tube running and there isn't a link to the current fundraiser.
Also what is the deal with the "enhanced" episodes? Where are the previous ones that were supposedly popular?
There is a YouTube channel operating that has been doing AI upscales of episodes and they look pretty good. With less than 1000 subscribers they don't seem to need millions of dollars to do the upscaling.
Third movie reveal is:
Plan 9 from Outer Space
Little worried. I'm guessing they will pull in a decent amount on Turkey Day, but they're only sitting at 36% at the moment.
Went in for the all digital. But with 7 days left, not looking good :(
Maybe the move from Kickstarter wasn't the best idea?

Agreed, it seems that there isn't remotely the visibility on the public funding platform they chose. [Though the digital tier likely would've been more versatile, I went with the Blu-rays with my pledge.]
It's times like this I wish I was a billionaire... because I would donate a billion dollars, so that MST3K would run until the Sun becomes a red giant.
It would be the best funded puppet show... of all time, and have plenty left over for ladies of the night, and blow.
Is it possible that they'll just make a shorter season or something?
I'm curious what happens if they don't make the threshold. Regroup and take another run later?
Is there an amount that SHOUT can contribute to make up a shortfall, if it's not too great - they do own MST3K now, so it might be worth their while...
The minimum they're aiming for is six episodes.

Current campaign states if they don't hit minimum goal then nothing will be collected ' just like Kickstarter campaigns. Would like to think if the don't hit minimum goal they'd regroup and try something else if this campaign falls short. Joel's current vision of the show doesn't seem to allow for big prouction cost cuts and bringing in amatuers who are willing to try and do it all on a shoestring. Maybe another try at one of the streaming services or networks?
Just out of curiosity, is the most expensive aspect of production licensing the movies for use on the show?
Three more movie announcements
Ballistica
Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe
Battletruck

I would say yes, but all the movies listed so far (save 1 PD title and 1 Asylum title) have already been released by Shout Factory and Shout Factory owns MST so I would wager they don't have to pay (if anything) that much to use those titles.
Announced today that they've cut the goal by $800k for 6 episodes. That takes it down to $4 million from $4.8 million for 6 episodes. Still just below $2 million pledged as of now.

I don't believe any of the announced films are public domain - I assume you refer to
Plan 9, but that is a common misconception. Unless I have missed something and it's one of the other films?

No that was my assumption. I thought it was. Still they probably aren't paying a full price for all the shout titles.

Not sure - I would think different licensing would apply - but it's probably much easier to negotiate those rights with their existing relationships.
S14 didn't reach its goal of $4 mill.. fell short by about 1.3 million so it's not happening (for now at least) :-\
Still bet they regroup and try again. But we'll see.
A lot of it seems to be a poor timing thing.
QuoteGreetings, backers.
Well, we've come to the end of the month, and the end of the Turkey Day Marathon and this campaign.
While we're incredibly grateful for all of the support, enthusiasm, and encouragement, it's clear we've fallen short of our goal this time.
First, to be clear, please understand that that means that no one will be charged anything, and we will not be collecting anything that you pledged to this campaign , since the agreement was that we'd only collect funds if we reached our minimum goal. No charges will be put on anyone's credit cards.
Second, and more important, please know that we're incredibly grateful for all of your input, feedback, concerns and questions, and are thinking about all the suggestions you have made over the past month.
One silver lining is that the continued support for this campaign, and the show, may have opened up some new conversations about potential partnerships and fundraising that could be key in getting the show another season.
We'll spend some time now exploring those, and working to integrate all of the feedback and suggestions we've heard from you, and will follow up again next year, Lord willing and the creek don't rise, when we've had a chance to regroup and have more to share downstream.
For now, whether you pledged or not, please accept our thanks and gratitude for your ongoing dedication and investment in MST3K.
We're proud that the show continues to mean so much, to so many, and will keep working to figure out a path forward so that we can hopefully continue to #MakeMoreMST3K.
Until then, have a wonderful holiday season, and thanks again for all of your support.
Cheers and Thanks,
Joel and Team MST3K
It's a sad result, but I am hopeful they will be back.
More sad was seeing in real time a significant, loud sub-section of the fan-base pretty much campaign against the campaign. Quite baffling to me, if you don't like the new stuff, don't watch it - No one's taking the original series away.
Left a really bad taste in my mouth.
Yeah, over on the https://forums.mst3k.com/ forums, it started to de-evolve rather quickly, to the point that the mods over there had to step in on multiple occasions :-\
Unfortunately I think Joel listens to / reads a lot of the garbage. My take since season 11 has been more MST3K better than no new MST3K so I'll continue to support even though I'd prefer to see some things done differently. Had no idea there was an active campaign against the current fundraiser. I just thought it wasn't run as well as the Kickstarter campaigns. Not near as many reminders or publicity.
To be clear, I don't think the anti-new-MST3K brigade had anything at all to do with the funding failing. I think there were quite a few missteps from the team, unfortunately - Not sure if they thought it was a safe bet after the last few campaigns or what, but it really looked like a half-hearted attempt from the outside.

I think it was a combo of
1. economy issues
2. poor timing (especially with strikes going on)
3. Switching to a fundraising platform that unfortunately had less visibility than Kickstarter.
Agreed, but add in very little promotion/events from the team - Way less than in the past, even post-strike.
Resentment over the delivery of the previous kickstarter rewards.
Yeah there were some shipping issues, though at least some of it was Covid related and couldn't be helped much.
I think people also forget what a small operation MST3K is in reality also.
I suspect that a part of it was the lack of publicity in a way that attracted the eye. Most of that would be from the SAG-AFTRA strike since creatively promoting these fundraisers involved a lot of work by actors and writers.
