Title: Suggestion
Post by: scragged on May 22, 2020, 02:16:58 PM
Maybe it's just me, but I've reached my limit with the social commentary in Rifftrax.  It's just not funny watching a movie to get away from the world and being reminded of annoying stuff like who the president is or that people viewed things differently then, or that they didn't havd the same social mores or whatever that we do now (the same way that in the future people will look at people now as primitive and ignorant for having different beliefs and stuff).

I don't remember a lot of that in this riff.  They did use the term "whitewashing".  The term refers to recasting Asian roles with white people.  I don't really care for that term, but in this context I think it was just a convenient way of referring to the absurd contrast between what the characters said they were and what they actually were.  Like, you had all of these people who were clearly not Asian at all, singing about how great it is to be in China, and about their pride at being Chinese.  I didn't pick up a social message in it, despite the term.
