This looks like it's intended to be the original sequel that was stuck in development hell for so long, disregarding any "Ghost Corps" material like the reboot.
Hopefully it's a earnest direction change for a damaged (but possibly salvageable) brand.
Could just be a coincidence, though. I mean in regards to it and the stuck in development hell one.
That's also plausible since (AFAIK) Jason Reitman was never attached to it until now. Another Sony hack would be enlightening, as the vid notes.
Jason has been saying how he never intended to touch Ghostbusters, always doing his own thing. But now he's feeling it, and they have an idea that they feel work (him and whoever he's been writing with), so sounds like it's a somewhat recent take, at least with him. Though I know it's been pitched before.
I just listened to his recent podcast with Kevin Smith, pre-Ghostbusters announcement, but a good listen. Makes me root for him, and he has enough experience under his belt that I think it's a solid choice to give him the keys to the car.

WTF?! We can't tell from this how primary these characters will be in the upcoming movie, but it seems like having new Ghostbusters who can't even drive Ecto-1 might be a bad idea.
They did this Junior Ghostbusters idea in the later seasons of the 90s Real Ghostbuster cartoon and it was annoying and pointless.
This has Timmy Bobby Rusty written all over it.
Doesn't really confirm that they're the Ghostbusters. Just that there's a lead part for a tween boy and girl.
Not to do with the movie, but Mattel just announced a line of WWF/Ghostbuster figures.

The series will consist of Steve Austin, John Cena, The Rock, Shawn Michaels and a glow in the dark Undertaker.
Well, that is better than mixing up Transformers and Star Wars I must say.

needs more men.
QuoteSony and Jason Reitman are also currently casting two of the young leads which include the roles a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl. The unnamed teenage boy character is described as a conspiracy theorist that is really into fantasy. The pre-teen girl certainly sounds like a Jason Reitman character, for sure, a science kid that has trouble connecting with others on an emotional level, understanding feelings and not be aware how hurtful her comments can be.

It's hard to know what to make of that. They sound like Mulder and Scully, which
would be an excellent dynamic for a pair of (older) Ghostbusters. Maybe these are younger versions for use in flashbacks.

Even if so it seems odd he would return to it. And what history we learn in The Real Ghostbuster cartoon indicates his family was into science like he was.

It's a shame, Rick Moranis was always great in the Ghostbusters movies. But he's been retired from acting for a while now, and if he doesn't want to do it I certainly don't want to force him.
I would really love for him to come back. He is an amazing actor.

Agreed. But he's got to really want it. And I can't blame the guy for enjoying his family life away from the chaotic movie industry.
Boring and jarring at the same time.
I can't stand this dialogue that constantly oscillates between artificially awkward and unnaturally eloquent. And I can't remember a single conversation that rang true, like an interaction between real people in a real world*. Maybe they should have just copied Stranger Things, because this felt like they were aping the Marvel humor formula and failing at it harder than most. It only got one (intentional) laugh out of me--the "bar" pun--and only because the girl pointed it out.
I have zero desire to watch it again, but I guess I'm in the minority because two friends can't wait to, and it seems to be doing fine on RT and metacritic.
The box office take seems on par with GB2016, but it might still be doing fine if it's true that the budget was waaaaay lower (though it didn't look much cheaper than GB2016 to me except for the rural setting).
* This goes double for all the casually unafraid interactions with poltergeist Egon.
Have the manbabies harassed the young girl in this into leaving social media yet?
AFAIK, the fans and filmmakers (cast, crew, etc.) haven't attacked each other. Neither have felt the need, I suppose.
The film itself has been successful, too . . . but that's just a coincidence, I'm sure.
IIRC someone tried to stir up some outrage over the box set, but that was over some other movie.
