Screenwriter Ehren Kruger Talks TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, Developing a Version with a Different Director, Michael Bay, Hasbro, TRANSFORMERS 5, More (http://collider.com/transformers-5-ehren-kruger-interview/)

Well, we agreed very early on that there's so much rich mythology to the Transformer universe that we didn't want the movies going forward to fall into kind of predictable pattern of there are good Autobots and there are bad  Decepticons and there's some issue that they're fighting over and they fight.

All this battle and action stuff is over with now.  The next one is going to be a courtroom drama where the Decepticons sue the Autobots for property damage and defamation.

I suspect the Quintessons will be involved with this. Or possibly Primus and Unicron, but I'm not sure if Bay would want to go down that road.

The Quintessons are definitely a possibility.  I dont think Unicron is though.  Maybe TF6?

Unicron and Primus if they do a good job of it. Unless Cybertron was fully destroyed in 3, I don't know.

I actually like the Quintesson's origin in the cartoon. They sure didn't look organic, more like other robots, but still.

Then you saw the Quintessons, they were introduced in the movie.  They could be interesting in a future movie, they are kind of like the Covenant.  There are multiple species that serve the five faced beings.

So who are they going to get to direct T5? As for Bay imitators, I'd say Battleship was practically just a resume for Peter Berg to get this gig. Otherwise, Paul WS Anderson seems like the kind of soulless flunky that could fill Bay's shoes.

With the loss of the Marvel movies, Transformers is Paramounts #1 money making franchise, if they end up replacing Bay, they are not going to get a hack director to drive their billion dollar series into the ground.  But what the fuck do I know, I am not an executive at Paramount?

Wahlberg's reluctance to commit to a sequel is a little baffling. Did he really expect his TF4 gig to be a "one-off?" This isn't an independent arthouse flick, for crying out loud, it's a franchise.

Some say Mark won't return, others say he's under contract for two more, which sounds about right. I'd love to see Mark back. Couldn't care less for any of the other human characters really. I like the idea of the father fighting to save his daughter, but it's clear the daughter and her boyfriend were only in 4 because "love story".

The last sentance is
QuoteAnd to further bring good news, it is confirmed that Michael Bay will be back to direct the Transformers 5.

yet they don't cite a source. And the source they do quote earlier in the article indicates it's unsure. So basically this article is written about as well as the scripts to the Bayformers movies.

And I would say it's funny that they indicate in the article that they couldn't find a director if it weren't Bay, yet STEVEN SPEILBERG himself has said that they can't make these movies without Bay. And that's not funny, that's just sad.

TRANSFORMERS 5 Expected in 2017; "Shared Universe" Plan Confirmed (http://collider.com/transformers-5-release-date-2017/)

I could see an Optimus Prime movie being rather interesting. Plus, he's the only robot with anything close to a personality to base a movie around. But not even Bumblebee is interesting enough to headline his own movie, and he's the only other robot that's even identifiable!

I kinda like the idea of a Transformers cinematic universe (If only because that means there will be too many movies for Michael Bay to do them all...) But they haven't set things up that way up until now. Right now the Transformers are all kind of a homogenized mess. The reason Marvel's universe works is because a Captain America movie feels different than a Hulk movie or a Thor movie or an Iron Man movie.

Right now all the Transformers movies equate to "Optimus Prime and his battle-ready pawns." That's gonna need to change if this is going to work. HOWEVER, if that means they WILL change it so that this will work, maybe Transformers movies start getting good...

'Ant-Man' Scribes Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari Join 'Transformers' Writers Room: Cybertron Pic In Offing? (http://deadline.com/2015/05/transformers-ant-man-andrew-barrer-gabriel-ferrari-cybertron-1201433402/)
I'm hearing that one of the ideas in the works has a working title of Transformers One
Quote from: Mike Fleming Jr
EXCLUSIVE:
Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari, who spent half a year doing the production rewriting on Marvel's Ant-Man, have become the latest to join the Writer's Room that Paramount Pictures and director Michael Bay have organized to hatch sequels, prequels and spinoffs on their billion dollar Transformers franchise. I'm hearing that one of the ideas in the works has a working title of Transformers One, and that it is more or less an origins story that takes place on Cybertron, the planet where the good guy and bad guy robots hail from. Those talks originated with rights holder Hasbro. I'd also heard that this might be an animated feature, but that Barrer & Ferrari are also going to the writer's room with the expectation they'll write a live action Transformers movie, as well. Paramount insiders said that they haven't gotten that far on the specific projects, but I am told this is the plan. A Cybertron movie sounds like fertile ground for a feature, to me.

The goal is to have a sequel ready for when Bay completes directing the Benghazi drama 13 Hours, and other projects to come right behind that one. The Transformers mythology is deep enough to sustain this, I'm told, so it might well turn out to be a smart play for Paramount, which needs big pictures. Transformers: Age Of Extinction was last year's most profitable blockbuster, as named in Deadline's analysis.

I like the idea of a Cybertron movie, if only because it would have NO HUMANS. I'd still rather Michael Bay not be directing it, though.

Really? Given the incredibly high budget these movies already have, the fact you wouldn't have to pay high priced actors (even name actors wouldn't get as much for just a voice acting role), no sets, and the fact that these movies have about an hour and a half of screentime with CGI already?

Check out Transformer Prime on Netflix if you want to see some pretty good Transformer animation stuff.  It has a lot more mature writing in it that I would have expected, especially around mid season 2 through the end of the show.  Season 3 actually has some really great fight choreography.

Josh Duhamel is getting back in the fight between the Autobots and Decepticons.

The actor will return to the Transformers universe in the franchise's fifth installment, Transformers: The Last Knight, where he will reprise his role as Lieutenant Colonel Lennox.

Duhamel appeared in the first three Transformers movies but was absent from the Mark Wahlberg-starring fourth film, 2014's Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Wahlberg and director Michael Bay have already taken to Twitter, welcoming Duhamel back into the fray.

The eternal battle between the vehicularly inclined alien robots will wage on in The Last Knight, which is set to hit theaters in 2017.

Judging by the title, I would say that this is in reference to the Black Knight Satellite, which is a real thing, but that would be too clever. It would make perfect sense though. The real BKS is a chunk of 'something' that's been orbiting the Earth for, allegedly, thousands of years. At the very least, it's been there for as long as we had any way of knowing it's there.  It radiates radio waves, which is why it was discovered in the first place. And it has a polar orbit, which is extremely odd for anything naturally occurring.

Naturally, lots of people think it's some kind of alien object.

Eh, I don't trust anything Michael Bay says about these movies anymore.
He's also said that he doesn't like making them. Which I don't buy for a second. If he didn't like making them then they'd be an hour and a half, not two and a half hours. That's more time directing on set, more effects shots to supervise, more everything.

Even if this is the last one directed by Michael Bay, given the success of the series I don't think the studio and Hasbro would want a hard reboot. They'll just hire some other shitty director to make more exactly like these.

Even if Bay isn't directing, he will likely be an executive producer. And by now the style of the movies and designs of the robots is set to the point where the studio and Hasbro won't want someone to come in and change them up, for fear of diminishing revenue.

At this point, the movies would have to start losing money or have a bomb that the public rejects, like Batman & Robin, for the studio to stop making them. Then we'd have to wait about a decade before they start making a new series again.

Well the style isn't necessarily the deal-breaker. It's ugly as all get-out, but if they could put some personalities behind those awful exteriors, write up a good story, get a likable human or two, it could be a vast improvement over what we've had so far.

Normally I really like these movies. I really enjoyed the last four, but this one was just BORING. So far the summer is 2 for 2 on good movies. I hope Spider-Man is good.

Wait, I'm confused.  2 for 2 means 2 out of 2 movies are good.  So are you panning this movie or what?

Sorry. So far I've seen four movies this summer. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Wonder Women were good, The Mummy and Transformers: The Last Knight were bad.

OK, so the Summer is 2 for 4.

Yeah. I screwed up. I meant to say 2 and 2 or 2 for 4 and it came out 2 for 2.

This is how bad this movie was. It made me screw up my post.

One of the best things I've heard from critics is that it's not as bad as the last one. I never intended to see this movie in the first place, but that's not the kind of endorsement that would even begin to change my mind.
