RABBIT! The very word strikes fear into the heart of anyone with a very strange definition of the word fear! Their very existence seems to bring terror, what with their gnawing on vegetables and hopping and...twitching their little tails... Starring in a surprisingly wide array of beloved books, cartoons, and other children's entertainment, OK, look, rabbits aren't scary, at all. But what if, through a combination of terrible editing and confusing camera angles, we pretended like they were very big? Hey, where are you going!
So it goes in
Night of the Lepus (Latin for rabbit, as characters frequently remind each other and the audience.) When rabbits overrun a farmer's land, he turns to a local scientist for a cure rather than poison them. Thus the true message of this movie: poison rules. When the scientist's cure backfires, the rabbits grow to enormous size and the real conflict begins: that of the special effects team vs the movie producers who evidently budgeted next to nothing for the special effects team.
Using an innovative technique known as "replaying the same damn shot over and over again" the makers of Night of the Lepus manage to create the eerily convincing sensation that you are watching normal sized rabbits run towards a camera in slow motion. Occasionally they run across the screen right to left in slow motion. That Cadbury commercial where the rabbit clucks like a chicken is infinitely scarier. So is the mustache that DeForest Kelley sports in this movie.
Join Mike, Kevin, and Bill for
Night of the Lepus, the least scary thing involving rabbits since Bugs Bunny dressed up like a woman and seduced Elmer Fudd.

OOOHH!! Bunnies!! :o
Downloaded. Can't wait.
Downloading now!
I love that I can remote connect in to my computer from work so I can download new VOD's and they're ready for me when I get home.
Can't wait to get home and watch this.
Where the hell were these rabbits during the first AND second Birdemics?!
Purchased! Tonight will be this coupled with the Amazon VOD released recently :highfive:
Downloading now, first major download on my all-new higher bandwidth cable connection!
Downloading Bunnies! ;D
Downloading. Hare it comes....
Can someone tell me if there is any real rabbit death in this movie? I have been sorta nauseated by the animal murder in some of the other VODs and so would like to know before making the purchase...thanks (and yes I am a total puss)!!
"Real rabbit death" as in an actual rabbit actually dying? No, I don't think so. This movie may have been made at a time when those sort of things were becoming more and more rare and frowned upon by activist groups. There are a lot of rabbit "deaths" in this movie. (i.e. in the context of the movie rabbits do die.)
My review: http://rifflifemovie.blogspot.com/2014/02/rifftrax-reviews-night-of-lepus.html
I also have a review for Night of the Lepus: http://impalergeneral.blogspot.com/2014/02/rifftrax-takes-on-night-of-lepus-or.html
No real rabbit deaths. But a lot of hilarious fake ones.
We Riffed "Lepus" five years ago... Mike and Co. did a great job with the movie,
but I still think we nailed it.
I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize to anyone I might have
offended with my completely despicable tirade, specifically Darth Geek,
... I think I was having a little David O. Russel type freakout.
I am an asshole, and I am sorry.
Peace to all MISTIES.

At the beginning of the film, there's some news footage of rabbits being herded, prior to presumably being, er, de-rabbited. And at the end of the film, some rabbits are electrocuted. I don't think they were actually electrocuted, but it's the 70s and there's a chance that they saved some money. (I doubt it as it doesn't look too convincing.) And a rabbit or two appear to be set ablaze. Once again, pretty sure they didn't use real bunnies, but still can't be sure. And a bunch are "shot" throughout the film, but those aren't real.
Let me put it this way. Here's a riff in the film from Kevin:
"No rabbits were harmed in the making of this film. Okay, a few. Few dozen. Few hundred. Okay, probably thousands were harmed. More like tens of thousands. Just coming clean here. Come on. There's still a lot of damn rabbits left in the world. Calm down."So, yeah. If you're sensitive to rabbits being killed either real or unreally, this might be an uncomfortable experience for you.
There are some real looking rabbit corpses early on, but I can't imagine these blue state hippies would actually use for-real rabbit corpses so I'm guessing they were just props.
I didn't see any real rabbit deaths.
just bought it, downloading now...
I'm quite curious about this one. I mean - I'm a fan of bad movie reviewer pages since before youtube and online videos were a thing and while I always was aware that there's a flic with Doctor McCoy and killerbunnies in it - noone seems to talk about it. And while I could have gone to imdb and check out the synopsis there that's usually not the way I roll. And thus I'm blissfully unaware about this one. Will it be horrible, or funny-bad or what. And what will be happening in it?
:)
Since your youtube channel is gone is there somewhere else to obtain your full version or do I have to buy the mp3 ... I would like a VOD but will buy the mp3 if there a pre-synched version to make up for that .. same with Space Camp.
Just go to the rifftrax website and you should be able to buy a VOD no problem.
