We're excited to present
Batman Takes Over, the first installment in one of the earliest screen depictions of Batman ever made, the 1949 serial Batman and Robin! This is where we'd joke that we finally found a version of Batman and Robin worse than the Joel Schumacher
Batman & Robin, but that is physically impossible according to Newton's Law of Schumacherian Bat-Nipplage.
In this thrilling opening episode,
Batman Takes Over...an hour to arrive at the crime scene, because he drives an ordinary car instead of a Batmobile. And, standing in for stately Wayne Manor, a slightly-less-stately suburban home. Batman and thirty-something boy wonder Robin are hot on the trail of The Wizard, so named for his lack of magic powers or costume resembling a wizard's in any way. Speaking of costumes, Batman & Robin store theirs in a drawer in a FILING CABINET. And, and, and...well there's too much great Bat-wrongness to tell here, you really just need to see this.
So squeeze into an ill-fitting costume, buckle your utility belt (ordinary belt), and join Mike, Kevin, and Bill for
Batman Takes Over!

Why is this a short and not feature length?! ARGHH!!!!! Still awesome but, man, I was looking forward to a feature-length riff after all this time!
Are you guys doing the rest of the other 14 chapters too?
Hey, that nice blind lady from The Brute Man got her operation and traded up to dating Bruce Wayne!
I've watched a bit of the serial before. When you see it, if you haven't seen it, you will see what the 60's show was parodying so well.
Good lord, I about killed myself laughing at this one.
I feel so sorry for everyone in 1949 who survived WWII, then had to go and see this as their "reward".
Just curious as to the length of the short. Can anyone who's grabbed it already chime in?

If not maybe it could be the target of another Multi-Group Project?
We toyed around with doing this serial a few years ago, but things got a bit side tracked & it never came about. :-\
But I'm looking forward to seeing this one! :)
YES! I'M GETTING THIS AND INSISTING YOU DO THE WHOLE THING!
It's a 14-part serial? Wow. If they continue doing them we won't get to the end for more than year! And that's optimistic! You guys don't know what you started here.

I also cast a vote for Mike, Kevin and Bill doing the complete Batman and Robin serial. This was the best $1.99 I spent on a longer short in a long time!
Looking over the info on this serial, the complete run of it is around 4 hours long (also known as 1.33 Peter Jackson Movies.) So not TOO implausible for them to tackle the rest of the serial in one or two more parts rather than doing it one episode at a time over the course of the next year or two.
This was a lot of fun, I hope they do the rest of them.
I did notice a lack of commenting on the silly "bat ears" looking more like devil horns or antennas.
AMAZING! Please do riff more!
And that super house batman lived in.. What was that?
And great place to hide the car
Love love loved it. Loved the whole thing. I was actually considering watching the rest of them unriffed but I don't want to spoil the surprise. Do the rest!
Add me to the list of those wanting to see this entire serial done. Hope it sells well enough to make that happen.
The 1942 (or 43) serial with all of it's war flavored racism looks like it would make a good follow up too (although maybe it would count as a prequel).
Judging from the sample (since I'm still so broke the chances of me getting this in the near future are slim to none), it looks hilarious! Thrill as Batman and Robin obey the speed limit as they don't rush to a crime scene! Would having finding a cooler car really have been that much more expensive?

If I'm not too much mistaken even in the comics of the time the "Batmobile" wasn't much more than a basic car with maybe some fancy attachments and stuff on it but the "Batmobile" being some sort of suped-up car didn't come about for much later (and may have be introduced by the 1960s TV series.)
Seems pretty easy to research.

Here it is int he comics in the 40s:

I took the lack of comments on the costumes, the fact that Batman looks more like Chihuahua Man and on the fact that Robin looks 40 as evidence they are saving that stuff for a quiet patch in a future episode...
I'd hesitate before requesting the entire series. Back in the MST3K days, they said the old serials got harder and harder to write for because they were so repetitive. Each episode tends to follow the exact same beats with only minor changes in scenery. Granted, I can't say this was exactly the case with Batman, but it was typical of most adventure serials.

I was thinking along the same lines, but then I thought to myself, you know, with 20+ years of riffing experience since Commander Cody, I'm betting they can pull it off and make it good. If they were to riff that now, I can't seem them falling back on "nipple tweak" 2 or 3 times an episode, for example.
Josh was maybe a bit out of his depth during Commando Cody, but Trace was actually pretty sublime in the way he embraced the repetition ("a NEW character!"), and Joel and Trace had a ball with the whole thing of the lab where people get beaten up and kidnapped every week.
That said, if Commando Cody is anything to go by, you could probably skip whole episodes of Batman and Robin without affecting the coherence of the overall plot.
Honestly, I watch these shorts and likely enjoy them a whole lot more than Batman Forever or Batman and Robin.
Batman Takes Over...the number one spot on the bestsellers list. I hope that bodes well for us getting more from this serial.
The question is how do I watch this. Stand alone? As a warm up for an older rifftrax I haven't seen yet (was thinking of watching 300 this weekend). Or as a short with other shorts?
I wish I had such problems.....

This is my version of re-tweeting this.

Not the joke he was making, but...
I know what he was referencing. Then I changed the meaning.
But yet not a single one of you have helped ME!

Watch it in a marathon with RoninFox's iRiff of Batman (1989) and Cinester Theater's iRiff of Batman Returns.

I fully support this plan of action.
Pressure, pressure. Jeez.
Are you planning to do the rest of this serial as well?
They said on Facebook it depends how well this one does. (It seems to be doing very well, so hopefully)
Got my fingers crossed, I loved this riff.

I hope they do more. This was really good.
