I mean that is what this whole short was about yet everyone I ask including my mom and dad just give me a strange look and say they have never heard of that.
What would that even do any way? I mean besides making you clothes a fire hazard and making you smell like gas when you put them on.
Has anyone ever done this in real life and if so why?
It was apparently a common enough practice decades ago (your parents might not remember it, but your grandparents might). The chemicals they use in dry cleaning today work pretty much the same way gasoline would, but are apparently safer. The way I understand it, you can wash the clothes in the gas, then it just evaporates away when you hang it up.
Keep in mind I'm going on info I looked up from wikipedia and other internet sources after I was confused by the short the same way.

Good Night!
So people really are that stupid. I just can't imagine anyone for any reason thinking that soaking their clothes in a liquid that can burst into flames is a good idea. The fact that they had to make a short film to explain why this was a bad idea really says something about the human race if you ask me,it's says that by and large we are a bunch of brain dead morons.
I asked my parents (who are both 79) if people did this and they said NO!
Must have been an east coast or local habit

Maybe they were just trying to keep you from doing it.

Great. Now I'm just trying to think of other things that I can wash my clothes in that no one as told me I can't. Goat blood? Soy sauce? I will do it until someone makes a horrible short about it!

Or how about crude oil?! No one has made a short telling us not to wash our clothes in that yet.
You used to be able to buy "white gas", that didn't have any of the additives needed for engine use. It was used for stoves and torches (those old brass things you see in antique stores). This was the same thing used in dry cleaning places at the time. So people got the idea they could do their dry cleaning at home, and instead of doing it outside away from ignition sources they would do it inside and blow up...
I guess no one here has ever stripped down an engine or cleaned a carburetor, used to use lots of gas to clean the parts...

Still how stupid do you have to be? I mean if you need a film to tell you gas is a fire hazard I don't think you should be allowed to buy gas in the first place.

I guess it shouldn't be but of all the stupid things I have seen people doing in Rifftrax short this seems to be the stupidest. I mean the stuff makes your car engine run by creating mini explosions, knowing that it is a fire hazard isn't rocket science.
I've tried rubbing my t-shirt with chicken wings, but it does not seem to work.
