If you have the single disc version of Star Trek VI, as shown below:
(https://forum.rifftrax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.markdenyse.com%2Fdvd%2Fcovers%2Fmovie%2Fmovie156.jpg&hash=decd69d734da3602732cbcf6e0664f4cf7f47837)
There are going to be some syncing errors around the 1 hr 23 min mark and the 1 hr 26 min 30 sec mark.
For those using their ipods for this riff, this can be corrected by pausing the riff at the 1:23:18 mark for 3 seconds, and then pausing the riff for one second at 1:26:31 mark(right after disembaudio says his sync line w/ Kim Catrall).
For reauthors, apply the above info into your audio mixing(i.e. cutting 3 seconds at the first mark, and then cutting 1 second at the second mark.)
This should fix the problem for you, and allow you to enjoy the rest of this rifftrax. :)
NOTE: The above info was a modified post from me asking if anyone else was having problems.
The posts below are in response to that.
Any one else having problems?
I haven't mixed mine yet. But I'll let you know my results as soon as I do.
I mixed mine and had no problems. All my sync lines are in sync.
Really? I don't know what the deal was then. I thought I did something to the original rifftrax, so i loaded another copy in there and line it up with the first rifftrax, then went along to see where they went off sync, and they didn't do it. It just seemed that it was an inherent problem. However it could just be me.
If it turns out that way, I'll just delete the thread.
PS: MrTorso, when are the covers gonna be up on MST3Kdvdcovers.com? I'm so anxious. I got my thinpak ready. ;)
Sounds like there may be some differences between the version you were using and the two-disc version that we used. It's the weekend so Conor may be slow to respond but I'm sure he'll see this.
Sorry about the issue, though.
I jut mixed mine real quick now and all my DA lines are in perfect sync.
I think its time we brought your over to the "Dark Side" and get you using Gold Wave instead of Audacity ;)
I found this at a DVD review site about the 2 disc Special edition:
QuoteNote that this DVD of Star Trek VI presents a cut of the film that differs from both the 1991 theatrical and 1992 home video renditions. The 1992 home video version – also found on the 1999 DVD – adds a few minutes that deal with Starfleet's proposed rescue of Kirk and McCoy as well as the plot to stop the peace process. The new DVD includes a 2003 recut of the film. It still includes the moments found in the prior home video renditions as well as a couple of minor alternate and additional shots.

Are you indeed using the one disc version instead of the two disc "special collector's edition"?
I sure wish these movie makers would just leave well enough alone. Lucas is the worst about this.
Well that is really interesting.
I aquired both the PAL Special Edition and 2 Disc Collectors edition and the movies were identical. Not just the movies, the discs themselves were, the single disc and the first disc of the Collectors edition were exactly the same, so much so that whenever I changed disc WinDVD resumed playback on it.
I think the main thing here is RiffTrax needs to communicate right away what version they used. Maybe after the 20 questions is solved, they could post the movie poster, along with the release date, version used...etc.
Normally they are pretty good about this. But to avoid issues in the future, we should try to obtain the exact version Rifftrax used.
Luckily for SASD he is knowledgeable enough when re-authoring to fix the delay. But for most users, they are going to have issues.
just my 2 cents...
Same here, I found a 3+ sec delay. I deleted some audio before 1:26:27, now DA and DVD are synced. Although, at 1:35:00, DA suffered another delay, where I performed the same task. The final DA was synced, no change. After watching the movie, it looks as if some lines are still going to have to be moved a little forward. :(

Which edition are you using? Just to confirm.
For those of you ripping the DVD to reauthor, I had an issue where it was dropping the entire Kirk/McCoy trial scene.
Yeah. Mine is the Bare Bones Single Disc with barely any special features. Here's the picture:
(https://forum.rifftrax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.markdenyse.com%2Fdvd%2Fcovers%2Fmovie%2Fmovie156.jpg&hash=decd69d734da3602732cbcf6e0664f4cf7f47837)
So I'm guessing that is what the problem must be. If you are using the 2-disc version, you'll be good.
But if you go the barebones version, you'll have to fiddle around w/ the ipod, or do what I did in my second post. I'll modify my original post to address this issue.
I think what messed up our hosts was Amazon.com listing BOTH versions of the movies with the exact same run time.
Yeah. I have no clue why the sync would drift in the middle of that scene. Maybe it was different. I didn't quite get the schnaapi joke, so maybe it was an alternate scene there.

I did. Check here: http://www.rifftrax.com/smf/index.php?topic=1972.msg48406#msg48406
However it's not on the product detail page. I'll go add that now.

They only go by what it says on the box. If you contribute to DVD Profiler you will know from experience that run times on the box are wrong an incredible amount of time.

True dat.
P.S. I love DVD Profiler. Best way to log all your DVD for insurance purposes.
Yeah hopefully I will never have to use DVD Profiler for insurance purposes.
Well we only had the 2 Disc set in office, and it appears it's the only one still in print, so hopefully that's what the majority of people will have. It seems strange to me that if the cuts of the movies are actually different, that you would only go out of synch by a second or two. The difference between the two versions Mr Torso describes would result in a completely different synch problem. Yours sounds like the problem people get with layer changes instead of an entire scene missing error.
We have a note about the edition up now.

I was able to sync Rifftrax to DVD audio. Thanks again.

I fixed mine by pasting 3 seconds of silence into the riff at 1:23:18, and then cutting 1 second of silence of the riff at 1:26:31. Try that out.

OK, question. Do I need to paste three seconds of silence in or cut three seconds out? And just to clarify, I'm
cutting one second at the second mark, right?
Thanks for noticing this problem! I would've been freaking out trying to solve it myself otherwise. :)
Ignore my second post. I was a little confused. You have to cut 3 seconds out. Just read my first post. There are no errors in that.
Okay, great. Thanks!
Thank you, SASD, for helping us laugh at Star Trek...again.
But seriously, thanks for finding the exact cut point. I noticed the problem with mine and was glad to find your post. When I was having problems with decrypting and started capturing, my DVD player would pause at odd times and I'd have to hunt down the exact points to cut out. It was a real pain. Thank you for saving me this time.
Everybody gets one.

If RiffTrax would just tell you the upc number off the back of the dvd case you could look it up and be absolutely sure you have the right version. You can look up upc numbers at amazon.com.
