I hope mine is in the mail box when I get home tonight!
in lieu of the official thread - a quick first impression of CT Live's Alien Factor:
great DVD - pretty much the same set-up as the first Live offering, but with much better delivery with much better reactions.
and if you love your Moog synthesizers MULTI multi-tracked, and your monster movies EXTRA extra-padded, this is a godsend.
**** 1/2 of 5 stars.
I'll be watching it ASAP when I can close up my office (after 6pm hopefully) :o

Man, that movie was horrible. It seemed like some student project or something. Even Manos had better acting!
But it was perfectly cheesy for riffing. I felt like the riffing wasn't up to its potential, given the golden source material, but it was still pretty good.
We need more late 1970's movies to be riffed. The hair and outfits alone are hilarious!

Before they starting releasing the live shows I thought it would be a bad idea, but I'll admit I couldn't have been more wrong. The audience becomes the sixth member, especially when the movie is as bad as The Alien Factor. One wooden actor after another, lots and lots of walking through snow, penny-ante special effects and this might not even be Don Dohler's worst movie.
Try the EZtakes download to burn option sometime, very smooth operation with covers and disc labels easy to print. They also have a lot of other stuff available including a number of discs with an hour of trailers from different genres.
Just watched it again and I'm Still Laughing.. Especially during the music scene cause Joel ad J Elvis seemed to be get'n into the music :D :D
Just discovered Dohler made a sequel in 2001. Wonder if it's safe to watch without riffs?

I would not think so!
Watched my copy yesterday, but wasn't paying too close attention so I missed out on a lot. Still, from what I recall, it was really funny. Especially liked the Torgo callback.

Wikipedia says it's not a real remake, that naming it as such was a marketing ploy. Kinda like Troll 2. Maybe there's no aliens in it ("Retsnom spelled backwards is monster!")
I'd actually seen Alien Factor before this release, and thought it was the kind of film that's perfect for riffing, and the guys gleefully take it apart. I think the biggest thing that the live releases has over the studio produced ones is that you can see the cast enjoy themselves on stage (Mary Jo's laugh is really quite lovely). It also adds an air of spontaneity the scripted efforts lack, too. I didn't quite enjoy it as much as East Meets Watts, but it's up there with the best.
I have to admit that I Really love the Live DVDs much more!! :o
I've watched East Meets Watts and this one back to back and I am just Rolling with laughter :D :D
I'm getting impatient for their 3rd Live DVD (Anybody heard any info about the next release?)
I didn't like it :gouge: so I made this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-mDs5upOQ4

I wonder if there's any chance they'll be recording
Danger On Tiki Island in Time Square for their next release? That would awesome, as I'll be there. They'd probably have announced that by now, though...

You're right, I wouldn't. Not much of a shouter. A big sign would be better anyway.
Roughly 4.5 years late to the party... but just watched this on Hulu. Back when CT first came out I had two kids still in diapers and my wife was back in school, so there wasn't a ton of disposable income laying around. So probably a little over half of the CT catalog is still new to me. Even with the occasional poorly placed commercial interruption where a riff is lost, I'm really glad to see these available on Hulu Plus.
The movie is bad, like Manos with a slightly better make-up department... The live audience does add to the vibe nicely, as there are odd edits or goofy looking characters that don't even require a riff. The movie does the heavy lifting and the audience chuckles all on their own. Like many, many other examples, the best riffs were front loaded but that was mainly because the final third of the movie was almost completely padding. Still lots of laugh out loud moments and even during the last act there are only a few small sections of drag. A great effort overall that deserves to be in the upper echelons of MST3K/RT/CT/General Riffdom. I would recommend that anybody who hasn't seen this seeks it out.
Watched this tonight. Enjoyed it...and while I'm usually not big on re-riffs, this is one I'd really like to see Mary Jo and Bridget take on (again I guess for Mary Jo).
I'm back to writing about Cinematic Titanic releases for my blog. The first one in 7 years is The Alien Factor.
