Hello...I'm a MSTie/Rifftrax/CT addict to the bone, and in general, a media glutton. Being so, I usually get most of the cultural/countercultural references that the jokes are based on. However, there are a few that have consistently stumped me. So as my way of saying my first hello, I ask if anyone might please explain to me the following:
Who is the "Nooma Nooma Guy"?
Who or what is "Carrot Top"?
Who is David Blaine?

David Blaine is a street magician, I think. I mean, he's a big time street magician, not like one of the real street magicians out there doing it as a hobby or struggling to turn it into a profession.
Carrot Top is a prop comic. As a prop comic, his material is irritatingly unfunny and based on bad puns. He has big orange-red hair, hence the name.
The Numa-Numa guy is some kind of YouTube celebrity. I never got around to looking it up.
Schnappi (because you didn't ask yet, but will wonder eventually) is a baby alligator from a German children's show. You can look up the Schnappi song on YouTube. It's pretty catchy.

Carrot top is a procomic who's been around for quite a while. I think they even referred to him in MST3k. Here he is on family Guy:
(https://forum.rifftrax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages3.wikia.nocookie.net%2Ffamilyguy%2Fimages%2Fthumb%2F0%2F01%2FCarrot_Top.jpg%2F180px-Carrot_Top.jpg&hash=0b72df864c3f3e3ec0ebdf530024672836a41d68)
and these days in real life:
Numa-Numa guy:
And David Blaine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Blaine), magician extraordinaire! is best known for annoying New Yorkers with street magic, either by freezing himself in ice, submerging himself in a sphere of water for a week, standing on a pole, hanging from cranes, etc.
Here's a TV special of his. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3865301872020421370&ei=P2yhSoDmLYfYqAPc1Ny9BA&q=david+blaine&hl=en&client=firefox-a)
So that's the Numa-Numa guy. How charmingly hilarious. It doesn't really stand out from a lot of YouTube videos, so it's curious that it became such a sensation.
I think Carrot Top gets a bad rep from a lot of comedy snobs who have likely never seen his full act (or have only seen snippets on TV) and just like to repeat the mantra they have always heard from other comedy snobs about him.
I have seen his Vegas act and it was very funny. I'd recommend his Vegas show for sure. I'm not so sure about his other shows, since I have heard that he does tone down his act for the non-Vegas crowds. The Vegas show is more for the adults and not really family friendly. Very goofy and silly, and a lot of fun.
Funny is subjective however. And opinions will vary. ;D

Yeah maybe. I found out a few years after Full House ended that Bob Saget is actually really funny.

Dude, I didn't use Wikipedia for a
reason. For one thing, how was I s'posed to know how to spell "Nooma Nooma"? Besides, as useful as it is, Wikipedia's obsession with being totally de-opinionated would have made for a possible lack of information as to what the Rifftrax context of these things is.
The other posters provided this perfectly. Thanks!
You know, except for the hideous hair, Carrot Top is a pretty good lookin' fella.
Joel is a prop comic. Just sayin'.

It's the whole possibility of going to jail thing that's always kept me from doing it. I've done it a few times and while I do think it's no worse than booze, at this point in time, it's illegal, so I don't go there. Not when I can just go pick up a beer from the store . . . for a lot less money, even.

In San Francisco, there are literally marijuana stores on every other street (which you need a medical card to patronise; these are supposed to be rather easy to obtain.) The Chief of Police here has instructed his officers not to even make marijuana busts, and the Feds aren't busting the stores (they call them "clubs") since Obama took office.
I do understand that in a lot of states, possession is still a felony. It's sad. :(
But the climate is changing. Even a lot of straight people are sick of the waste that is prohibition.

He's apparently New York based and since he "walks around" I doubt he gets to San Francisco much. Meaning I wouldn't have had any reason to have heard of him until Rifftrax made me curious enough to ask about it.
Except that Blaine has pulled several stunts that have gotten him international attention as well as his own TV shows. Hanging upside down for a long time, living in a box for a long time, living in a cold sphere for a long time, and other useless "look at me" crap has gotten him featured on every major news outlet. On the one hand I'm glad you don't know who David Blaine is but on the other I'm like, "You don't know who David Blaine is?!"

I dun' watch television. And web media tends to be streamed specific to interests. It just never intersected with me.

Naw, it's just that "I have a drug problem-- I can't afford them." I think using drugs when one has a drug problem is dumb.
I'm only tangentially aware of David Blaine. Wasn't there an episode of South Park when he and Jesus competed for followers, and David Blaine seemed to be winning because his tricks were better than Jesus's miracles?

Yes, and it was awesome. He's also been poked fun at on The Daily Show as well as some other awesome places.

I have no strong opinion regarding drugs, I was just kidding. If I disowned everyone I knew who smoked weed I wouldn't have many friends at all. I guess you could say I'm a member of the "legalize everything" crowd. Actually South Park did a great episode about youth and pot use. The end when Randy tells Stan the truth pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter.

I've seen that and loved it. "The trouble with drugs is that people will forget when to stop doing them".
Lordie knows, if ever I'm in a better situation (i.e., one in which virtually my entire income is not going to the landlord) I will smoke a doob the size of a Redwood log to celebrate. But that's not how things are now. And if I can't buy weed myself, I'm not going to smoke up my friends' dope since I'm in no position to reciprocate. It's kind of a karmic thing I suppose. And I find I can't enjoy it if I haven't earned the right.

Schni Schna Schnappi
Schnappi Schnappi Schnapp
Schni Schna Schnappi
Schnappi Schnappi Schnapp
Ich bin Schnappi, das kleine Krokodil,
hab scharfe Zähne, und
davon ganz schön viel.
Ich schnapp mir was ich schnappen kann,
ja schnapp zu, weil
ich das so gut kann.

Schnappi Schnappi Schnapp
Ich bin Schnappi, das kleine Krokodil,
ich schnappe gern, das ist
mein Lieblingsspiel.
Ich schleich mich an die Mama ran,
und zeig ihr wie ich schnappen kann
[Refrain]
Schni Schna Schnappi
Schnappi Schnappi Schnapp
Schni Schna Schnappi
Schnappi Schnappi Schnapp
Ich bin Schnappi, das kleine Krokodil,
und vom Schnappen, da krieg
ich nicht zu viel.
Ich beiß dem Papi kurz ins Bein,
und dann, dann schlaf ich einfach ein.

Honest to the Gods, I'd never once heard the name dropped before Rifftrax.
You have to realise, I don't watch TV, which means I don't get exposed to a lot of stuff people who do watch it are. Like marijuana, I can't afford it--I actually wish I could sometimes, especially because whenever I'm staying somewhere that has cable, I do love to watch

It's from one of the earliest Rifftrax, for Over the Top. The main character, play by Sylvester Stallone, is named either "Hawk" or "Hawks" depending on which one the actor addressing him remembered to utter. The vocal inflection often used is that of Hawk(s)' father in law played by Robert Loggia.

Not sure if it was the absolute first time they used it, but Pod People was the episode that seemed to use it the most (whenever the bearded leather mug maker guy was on screen). As I understand it, it's just because whatever was in the movie reminded them of a Renfest.

For sure. But it would have to be televised so we could all watched. Would be much funnier and more tolerable than his stand up or movies. Maybe even worth paying for.
It should be "The NUMA NUMA Guy". Gary Rolsma. The one immortalized in the Draostea song, "Love Under the Linden Trees",
which I first heard when Al Franken played it as a bumper on his Air America radio show (apparently, he then went onto some
kind of political career somewhere). "Mya-hee, mya-hoo, mya-ho, mya-ah-hah...". Don't know why every sports arena and
stadium doesn't use this song, especially in place of Gary "Child Molester" Glitter's over-played "History of the World, Part 2".
Rolmsa is the guy who, knowingly or otherwise, lip-synched this catchy little Romanian dance song a few years ago in front
of his web-cam. Very entertaining video.
