Title: opinions
Post by: Moxobna on June 25, 2009, 04:25:31 PM
Well, hmm. I really wanted to like this, but it just isn't my brand of humour, I guess. Okay, Patrick Swayze isn't particularly bright. It was kind of mildly amusing. The first time.

I'm all for new Riffers (more Josh Fruhlinger, please) but why are these two being so heavily promoted? I had *much* more fun with Children of the Corn and Erin and Gary Slasher. I mean, I don't even like horror movies, and I'm planning on watching it again.

It's a well-known fact of life that different people have different opinions.  I didn't pick up their first Rifftrax project, but I picked up this one and thought it was great.  I don't see how this track is getting any more "heavily promoted" than any other track.  It's the official release for this week, so it gets the promotion for this week.

Yeah I thought they were very funny. Personally I thought Fruhlinger stunk, so as NanoGhost said, we all have different opinions and we're not all going to like the same thing. But Ghost was right up my alley and Janet and Cole were a kick.

As a totally biased party who helped out on the Frulinger track, I think a lot of the trouble with Spiderman 2 was the audio initially.  His was just very quiet for the first 20-30 minutes.

I enjoyed the riff a LOT.  I hope they take on more films.

Is it wrong that I really don't consider Ghost to be all that bad of a movie?!

Is it wrong that you liked Ghost?   WHY YOU INHUMAN MONSTER!!!!

I think everyone has a movie or two that they like for which others would be surprised.   I liked the movie Quarantine and I sure I am the only one on the planet that did.

It's been years since I've seen Ghost, but I do remember liking it.  Thought Whoopi was hilarious in it as a kid.

My friends and I recently watched the Spiderman 2 riff for the first time the other night. It was part of a Spiderman Rifftrax Trilogy marathon. We all thought Josh did fine. To each his own I suppose. My friend Jordon had never seen a Rifftrax before. He was only familiar with the three Cinematic Titanic episodes I'd shown him on his previous visit.

To get back on topic, I haven't seen the riff for Ghost yet, but we all enjoyed the riff for Dirty Dancing. That was actually Candice's first Rifftrax. She's a big fan of the film, but she viewed it as a roast so she wasn't offended or anything.

I liked both movies as well.  Neither will win any awards but both were entertaining enough and worth watching. Quarantine was a decent if uninspired  entry  in the whole new 'hand-held camera horror' genre ala Blair Witch.  Cloverfield combined the Blair Witch thing with the whole Godzilla monster thing, while Quarantine did the Blair WItch/zombie thing. I know opinions are all over the place but I'm a fan of the whole Blair Witch camera thing and thought Cloverfield was a good film.  There is a certain sense of urgency and tension that seems to be in these films that I don't find in a lot of other horror movies.  Then again, I don't know how much more mileage they can get out of it. They have to start getting more creative than Quarantine if they're going to keep me interested for much longer. I'm guessing the next move might be a Blair Witch/Vampire thing, seeing how popular Vampires are now.

I wasn't aware that people thought it was a bad movie.  I love it.  And lest we forget, it was a Best Picture nominee.  I think it gets lumped in with the rest of Swayze's oeuvre so people think of it as cheesy and bad and it's not.

Well, the bit that confused me was why you would say that- I understand when the guys advertise on their front page, the part I was wondering about was when they advertise two people Ive never heard of doing a movie before.  No offense to them, just wondering why they were, as someone else said on this thread, they weer being so heavily promoted as opposed to others.  Did I clear that up for YOU?

Janet and Cole are the creators of San Francisco Sketch Fest and therefore have a following in the improv world.  They're also friends of Rifftrax and people whose work Mike enjoys and wants to promote, so this is a legit Riftrax Presents release and not an iRiff, that's why it's being promoted.  They're honorary Rifftraxians in my mind, kind of like Bridget, and their tracks are just as funny as ones by Mike, Bill and Kevin.   :)

I think Ghost itself is pretty cheesy and crappy. Demi Moore is a cold fish, all the "comedy"  stuff with Whoopi Goldberg just grates, and for a supernatural romance, it's almost completely lacking in atmosphere or any memorable visuals. Yeah, it got nominated for an Academy Award in 1991, so did Godfather III (begging for a riffing.) And Dances With Wolves (really begging for a riffing) won.

The riff was funny. I'll keep my eye out for Janet and Cole's sketch stuff the next time I'm in San Francisco.

I watched it, trying to remember what spawned that huge crush I had on Demi Moore when I was a teenager.

Also, it was a very funny riff too.  Janet is so entrancing--beautiful, smart, and funny.  Oh... that other guy was funny too.

I'm just glad that Swayze was wearing a shirt when he got killed.  Otherwise, we would have been looking at Planet of Dinosaurs levels of shirtlessness. We would have been looking at even-more-shirtless-than-Road-House levels of Swayze shirtlessness.  The ladies might have liked that, but I think it's a load of bull shirt.

I finally got my copy of "Ghost" from Amazon today before work, so I'll be settling in later with a big bowl of popcorn and letting the hilarity wash over me. I was a big fan of their "Dirty Dancing" riff, and I think I made my sister into a fan because she cracked up and could barely breathe when Baby did her bomber impersonation at the end. I'm under orders to bring "Ghost" the next time I go home.

I loved their Dirty Dancing riff and was looking forward to this one, but was extremely disappointed. I found Janet and Cole to be annoying most of the time. When they were commenting on things actually happening in the movie, they were usually funny. But most of the time they just used something in the movie as a jumping off point for some unfunny, annoying sketch. I actually muted the audio a few times because I couldn't take it.

Just my two cents.

Janet and Cole seem to be very polarizing. They have a very distinct riffing style. I find it a refreshing break from the norm, but others seem to just find it annoying.

I was fine with their style on Dirty Dancing. But with Ghost, they seemed to forget that the movie, not their shtick, is supposed to be the focus.

Fun as always, Janet's dumb guy voice is perfect and their chemistry is always tops, not quite Dirty Dancing quality to me but still a fun riff!
