Ugh...they managed to get Steve Oedekerk on script? I'm almost offended by that.

They actually expect to find a plot to use for this movie?  Now that's a stretch...

And now I'm as sorry as the producers should be.

Am I the only one who is getting to the point where I may just full blown stop watching anything that comes out of Hollywood because it all seems to be based on trashy toy from the 80s and I would rather see Hollywood go away then make any more movies like this?

I really want Hollywood to go away.

Maybe then some Japanese or British movies made by filmmakers with ideas would get wide releases.

The producer guy is clearly insane.

Oh, good, here I was worrying that this brilliant addition to the world of cinema would be shunned by the teenybopper crowd.

So, do you think they're even trying to find a target audience?

Will it be a kids movie or a romance movie? I can just see the scene where Stretch
and his girlfriend hear the heart-breaking news that his syrup has hardened...

(If you had a Stretch Armstrong you know what I'm talking about)

They think because Transformers was successful, other toy movies will be successful. They'll most likely aim for the magic PG-13 rating that ensures the suits who green-lit this abomination keep their pockets filled with cash and coke.

I couldn't care less about these other toy movies they're planning, but I'm especially looking forward to the Monopoly movie! Though they'll probably get some inexperienced director who will screw the whole thin-

Oh, wait, Ridley Scott is directing it. http://www.imdb.com/news/ni0604158/ (http://www.imdb.com/news/ni0604158/)

From that news article...

QuoteAccording to the Hollywood Reporter, Ridley will give the Monopoly movie a futuristic edge akin to his 1982 epic Blade Runner.

Really?

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack trains on fire on the tracks of the B&O Railroad. I watched C-notes flutter in the dark near St James Place. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to go to jail...do not pass go..."

I have to imagine that Scott meant that as a deal breaker. Something silly to propose so that Universal would go bother some other director instead. But he should have realized that someone that  wanted to do a film on Monopoly wouldn't know a bad idea from a good one.

BTW, here's the producer's spiel on the project:

QuoteThe man who apparently persuaded Ridley Scott to helm a film based on Monopoly has described the amazing premise which reeled in the director.

Yes indeed, this is a special treat for the board game movie adaptation fans among you, who've been known to ask, for example, just how on God's Green Earth they expect to translate Risk to the big screen.

Well, There's Something About Mary producer Frank Beddor has revealed to the LA Times just how he came to the rescue of the Universal/Hasbro Monopoly hook-up, announced earlier this year.

He told the paper: "The project was underway but they were in a little bit of trouble I guess and they were looking for a way to actually turn it into a movie. I had a pretty interesting take and it got Sir Ridley interested ... "

And here's how he did it:

I created a comedic, lovable loser who lives in Manhattan and works at a real estate company and he's not very good at his job but he's great at playing Monopoly. And the world record for playing is 70 straight days - over 1,600 hours - and he wanted to try to convince his friends to help him break that world record. They think he is crazy. They kid him about this girl and they're playing the game and there's this big fight. And he's holding a Chance card and after they've left he says, 'Damn, I wanted to use that Chance card,' and he throws it down. He falls asleep and then he wakes up in the morning and he's holding the Chance card, and he thinks, 'That's odd.'

He's all groggy and he goes down to buy some coffee and he reaches into his pocket and all he has is Monopoly money. All this Monopoly money pours out. He's confused and embarrassed and the girl reaches across the counter and says, 'That's OK.' And she gives him change in Monopoly money. He walks outside and he's in this very vibrant place, Monopoly City, and he's just come out of a Chance Shop. As it goes on, he takes on the evil Parker Brothers in the game of Monopoly. He has to defeat them. It tries to incorporate all the iconic imageries - a sports car pulls up, there's someone on a horse, someone pushing a wheelbarrow - and rich Uncle Pennybags, you're going to see him as the maĆ®tre d' at the restaurant and he's the buggy driver and the local eccentric and the doorman at the opera. There's all these sight gags.

Upon hearing this revolutionary idea, Sir Ridley said without hesitation: "What do I have to be part of this movie?"

Yeah.

[fake enthusiasm] Now I'm excited to see it too! [/fake enthusiasm]

I'm not sure how to interpret this obvious typo in the article.  I'm sure they'd want us to believe he said "What do I have to do to be a part of this movie?" but I think it might just be.  "What?  Do I HAVE to be a part of this movie?"

I'm betting this movie will be for the kiddie demographic, but we all know for certain the Twihards will be there just to see if Taylor Lautner will be bereft of his shirt in the movie at least once.
