I just finished watching Lethal Weapon 4 and that got me to thinking between Indy,Die Hard, and Lethal Weapon which 80s action movie franchise got the worst fourquel?
I am going to say Indy because all three of the Indy movies before it were good and the other two franchises had already started to slide.
But then again how come getting a fourth movie always seems to be the kiss of death for an action film franchise?
Shouldn't Jaws 4 be on that list?
And Hellraiser 4?

I dare you to name ONE good thing about "Temple of Doom".
It's my favorite of the series.
I love all the action scenes in it.
Also i think Short Round is a good sidekick.
I think Temple of Doom is is fun at times, weird at others and downright stupid at a few points (the opening dance number, changing his attitude towards museums, etc.) But it's just so weird that it is unique. And 'weird' Spielberg is still a lot better than most other action directors these days.

Short Round exists solely as a Mary Sue for all the little kids watching the film. "Wow, THAT little kid with the shrill annoying voice gets to hang out with Indy and do cool things! Maybe *I* can hang out with Indy and do cool things, too!"
Plus, since the film takes place the year *before* "Raiders", it creates an obnoxious continuity error...WHY doesn't Indy "believe in magic, a lot of superstitious hocus pocus"?
Where's Superman IV: The Quest for Peace? Or Batman & Robin?
A "foursquell" sounds like something a ship's captain should steer off-course to avoid.
Jaws 4 by a mile.
Live Free or Die Hard, easy. That movie made part of my insides die.
jJaws 4 - we're supposed to believe that a shark is stalking a family to kill them all off?
And even if you could convince me that a shark would plan like that.....add to it that the shark somehow knows that the family has left town and gone to the Carribbean????
Don't know that the others are as stupid at their base level as this one.

I'm giving you a high five for this one. I thought I was the only one on earth that liked it the best.
:highfive:
Name one part 4 that IS good and maybe you'll convince me they don't all suck. Hence they prefer to make trilogies.

Episode IV: A New Hope?
You'd have to see Episodes I-III first, and I don't know anyone who has.
Also it wasn't the forth movie made,it was the first.
Yeah, careful.....you'll have Hollywood start releasing the first movie in a franchise and naming it "Fill-In-The-Blank 4" and numbering them backward.
Then they can claim years later, "See, they got better as they went along!"
Isn't that how the movie companies in 1984 work?
Wow!
Jaws is winning.
...
Hellraiser is an action movie franchise?
-Rude
Well I have never seen a hellraiser movie(don't even know what it is)so when someone asked me to list it I listed it.
Didn't one of the producers actually apologize for HR4?
A Jaws 4 review from mid-90's Australian TV
mothra vs godzilla is the greatest fourquell around. lots think its the best godzilla movie period (aside from the original).
im going with superman 4 though i admit i havent seen jaws 4 i mean indy 4 is citizen kane compared to nuclear man.
Hey, shouldn't Batman and Robin be one of the options?
It is.
Ah, quite right, I must've spaced over it for some reason :-[
Most fourquels are made as an afterthought by one or more different people than the previous films.
The exception should be the fourth Twilight, but we'll just have to wait for that little gem.
Actually I think Harry Potter 4 is fucking abyssmal. All the guys have long hair, the director sucked, and they cut up the book like it was collage fodder. And I like ALL the other Potters so far, the new one looks to be no exception. That's far worse than an arbitrarily bad part 4 in a series with a lot of other bad movies (Jaws 2, 3, Batman Forever, Superman III, Lethal Weapon any, Die Hard, 2, 3, Hellraiser 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).

Also, WHY doesn't Indy have scars on his back from when he was whipped when he takes off his shirt in Raiders? That has always bugged me.
However, I have to say that I do enjoy watching
Temple, it's campy essence is what draws me in. Compared to Willie, the kid is a walk in the park. I'd take him over her screaming self-centered crap any day.
Does anything in the movie say it takes place before Raiders?
I do believe that Steven confirmed it.
Well good for Steven, but my childhood says he's a liar.
There is also the date at the start of each movie.
Raiders 1938,Temple 1936.
While I chose the Indy movie I will admit that Jaws 4 was horrible.
I went to the theater to see this flick and remember a different ending where Mario Van Pebbles actually floated to the surface after the shark was killed and was saved. Now, when I watch the film (By mistake people) he is always dead. This particular quandary has bothered me for years and no one believed me when I said that in the original theatrical release Mario was alive. A couple of years ago in an interview Mario said that they changed the ending when the film went to video and television. I feel vindicated. Therefore I didn't pick it as the worst forequell.
Thank you for your time

You can use facts to prove anything.
Except who killed Kenedy.
One of my favorite quotes ever:
"I have not seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."
-- Michael Caine, on appearing in Jaws: The Revenge
I love it! :D
Michael Caine could appear in a remake of Birth of a Nation and I would still watch it. Love that guy.

What, I can't be a girl?
I voted Indy. Most of the other franchises had already started sucking. Indy 4 though just came out of nowhere. They had so long to make something great and failed utterly.
And I reiterate Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. What, only franchises that ended with part 4 and weren't based on books count?
...I loved the 80's action of The Philosopher's Stone. I can still hear the Loverboy themesong "it's the sto-own, he wants to ow-own"
I think I'm supposed to vote for Indiana Jones, right? Because I'm not allowed to enjoy it.

Looks like he's trying to hard to impress the temple of Doom. "Hey Temple, what's shaking? Oh nothing much on my end. So are you doing anythin friday night? I got my Dad's car."

His face isn't burnt. Fuck you, movie Deadpool. Hot, sexy, making my pants tight movie Deadpool.
I'm seeing bald Deadpool action figures. My guess is he starts out all suave and the Weapon-X side effects kick in later on, eventually forcing him to put on his mask.
My guess, if you haven't noticed, is based entirely on desperation. :^)

I'd say, more based on not being a negative dick about something you have very little evidence to work with but then I would.
I went with Batman...
It was a total toss up between Jaws: The Revenge and Batman & Robin. The bad puns, bat nipples, cod piece closeups, and Bat credit card pushed Batman over the shark out for revenge. Jaws is bad and silly, but B&R is horrid.
Plus which had a riff and which doesn't. I rest my case...
I've seen Superman 4 somewhat recently... and it was gloriously awful... so that was my vote. I'd think that Jaws 4 could probably take the lead if I watched that again... but I haven't seen it since the HBO run twenty years ago or whatever. I thought both B&R and the latest Indy movie weren't very good, but not on the same level of "what the fuck were they thinking?" as The Quest for Peace or Jaws 4.
I thought Superman 4 was pretty straightforward. It's not like it featured unprecedented levels of questionable decisions. It's just a Superman movie really. Ostensibly Otis begat Richard Pryor begat Jon Cryer, so it's not like the comic relief is a weird addition. And as for the beefy guy being stupid... it's a beefy guy. They're stupid. It's not as cool as evil Superman and the killer computer, but they were out of ideas.
