Sorry this came a bit late - we are officially out of the office startinnnnnnnnng... NOW!
I will be gone all next week but there will be others there to do my bidding. Fare thee well, fellow Riffaholics!
Oh and, uh, what did you think of Reign of Fire?
It's pun-derful.
oh, i can't WAIT!
i own it already and quite liked it,but there's plenty to make fun of in it.
i'm working on synching it and burning it...hope i get it done fast.
It shouldn't take people many guesses to work out what line got the biggest reaction in this house.
Absolutly Brilliant, i was in hysterics througout the whole thing.
Plenty of pun-slapping fun!
Fave riffs:
"So this means Roberto Benigni is gone for good?"
"Alexander Haig, I think."
"I'm sensitive and sleep-withable."
"Would you quit with the Second Life for five minutes???"
"He's got a whole snootful of cigar loogies!"
"C'mon, ask her to the spring formal!"
"We'll need all the delicious low-fat sandwiches you've got."
"Okay, forget everything I said and RUNNNN!!!"
"What truck?"
"Do I know you?"
Sampo (humming the Happy the Helicopter theme song)
That was a great one.
Look out that window "I bought you a bike"
"Robot Monster!"
"Dont Tread on Me"
"Ride Postman, Ride!"
Kevin as the Happy Helicopter saying: All right well I've gotta go lay down some supressing fire! Buh Bye!!! I was rollin!!!
I was dying when Christian Bale appeared on the horse.
"Wait, they were starving to death and they had him?! The first second my stomach growls it's Cleveland Bay barbecue time!"
Kevin's Robert Shaw impression during the harpoon scene was perfect.
My 'take' now posted: www.rifftraxfan.com

That reminded me of 609 - SkyDivers: "Hi Kids, I'm Petey the Plane..." :D
Oh yeah Petey the plane! And his dad the big plane saying "I'll keep my eye out for communism!!"
Man, the recurring jokes here were top notch!
"Hey, I think he's Bale-ing out!"
*SMACK*
"Ow!!"
:D
I loved this one! It seems Kevin is getting more musical with every rifftrax.
It was actually hard to hate this movie. It was a stupid idea competantly executed. It's that special FUN kinda stupid. You don't wanna give this movie an F. You wanna give it an E because it tried. :^)
The Riffing was awesome as always. It was good to see a Packers cheer in a Rifftrax. :^)
I'm with Pak. It's a movie that, conceptually, is ridiculous but it was very well made considering. I nearly broke a rib lauging at the Happy the Helicopter bit. Definate 9 out of 10.

I agree. I think it's down to McConaughey's performance and Christian Bale's rather "pubic" beard. ;D
Man, it was a really funny one. Loved Mike's McConaughey voice, and the jabs at Bale's accent(thicker than clotted cream). The movie itself was... uh... well it was.
This one was harder to follow than Dr. Moreau. All I could see is "OK, Dragons burn tomatoes, McConaughey comes with his bald head and chiseled arms, they start screaming, the guys from Point Break get eaten by a Dragon, the gang decides to go to London, and they kill one dragon. It saves the world, the end???"
It pains me to think about it, but I might actually have to watch this one without the rifftrax to figure out what the heck is going on!!!

Actually, you got it about right right there. I don't think watching the movie riff-less will help.
Well, I really don't know what to say about this movie, other than to agree that it was a pretty ridiculous story that didn't make much sense, but overall it was well made. I think most of the comedy came from the fact that it took itself seriously, when, let's face it, it's about dragons. DRAGONS, people! But it was silly fun and the riffs were great.
I have to mention my favourite part was when the tanks stop on the road to London, and Mike says "You know if they take the A22 in from East Grinstead, they might get killed faster." East Grinstead is my hometown, I've driven the A22 many times, and I never thought I'd hear either of them mentioned in a Rifftrax so it was a pleasant surprise. (Technically though, if they're coming from Northumberland they wouldn't get there faster, as East Grinstead is 30 miles south of London. But I digress ;)) Thanks for the small hometown shout-out, Mike :)
It was a funny riff and a valid point, "So by that logic there's only ONE male fish?"

I loved that. I also love that the ONLY MALE DRAGON ON THE ENTIRE PLANET resided in London which is *gasp* where our hero happens to live. What a coincidence!!!!
I haven't seen such an obvious strangling of basic logic in a movie like that since Armegeddon.
If Christian Bale was able to pluck eggs out of the dragon's cooch while it was sleeping, why couldn't they just find the male dragon, wait till it sleeps, then pull a Lorena Bobbit on it?
I guess if they did that though, McConaughey wouldn't have died, so....
I'm trying to weigh out the pros and cons here. ::)

That was the dead dragon. But you still have the fact that Batman was reaching into a dead dragon's snatch.

Exactly. There's also the fact that Dragons don't seem to be that much faster than a Helicopter, yet they can cross the ENTIRE atlantic ocean en masse to destroy American civilization! How do they feed on their journey? I'm pretty sure you can't get ash from sea water... ;D
Another good Rifftrax. I don't think it really got going until the McConaghy-bashing started.
I couldn't get over the 12 year old allowed into and around a major construction site. Not only that, he is then encouraged to wander around on his own AT THE DRILL HEAD!!! I hope they had done some health and safety assessments of that risk!
When you add together all the plot holes and inconsistencies in the film, believing in dragons was actually the easy part!

In an episode of MST3K (I don't remember which one currently) Crow contacts the nephew's uncle's friend of the drummer from Survivor (I don't remember it exactly, but you get the idea). This is after paying exorbitant lecture fees for Yakoff Smirnoff. Anyway, he says something to the effect of, "We turn now to a butcher's shop in Sanford, Maine..." I was born and raised in Sanford, Maine and it is a town of about 20,000. In Maine. I would hazard a guess that most people on this board living outside of Maine and New Hampshire have never heard of Sanford, Maine. I always wondered where the reference came from... if the folks at Best Brains knew someone from there or if was just chosen completely at random. It was very cool, though :-).
One thing still bugs me about the resolution to this movie...
OK. So there's only one male dragon. Fine. They kill it, no more baby dragons. Fine.
But the male dragon wasn't anyone's problem. It was the countless thousands of female dragons that were ravaging the great cities of the world and causing the whole dragon apocalypse. Sure they'll die one day (HOW many thousands of years have these things been sleeping?) but they're going to be just as much trouble and burn just as many tomato crops as they always had in the past in the meantime. If humanity's still on its last leg, it's not going to have any easier of a time fighting off the beasts. The only ending I can see is that the dragons finish off the human race, then die of starvation themselves when they've eaten all the people and tomato ash they can.
Did I miss something there?
OR.....they do what many reptilian species do, and one of the females undergoes a sex change to become male. This happens to some lizards, frogs, and even chickens if males aren't readily available. It seems illogical from a biological standpoint that a species that has only one male would not have a genetic backup plan in case said male is killed. IE: self fertilization, gender bending, self cloning, ect ect..). Talk about a plot hole the size of Montana.....

This happened in Jurassic Park, I am afraid to admit knowing.
What a stupid movie. Good rifftrax, though. But the stupidness made it difficult to enjoy at times.
It needed more McConaughey imitations. That was well done.
Wow, Reign of Fire is about dragons? I have to watch it now. I love dragons!
There are also some species of reptiles that will become parthenogenic/reproduce asexually when there are no males. We have those at the zoo I worked for and it was part of my job to educate folks about their unique feature. The females just make clones of themselves more or less. Actually, some scientist believe that under increased stress, most if not all reptiles specials would able to reproduce asexually but they're not sure what it would take to cause it for all the species (it's probably an ability that has slowly been selected against throughout the eons because genetic diversity is best, of course). I'm pretty sure dying out and having all your boys killed might be an adequate stressor though. There have been reports and studies done on even some of the larger reptile specials reproducing asexually.
I assume real dragons could do it if Komodo dragons can ;)

I believe that was the Russo-Finnish co-production "Jack Frost".

Janitor, yes, that is the one. They are contacting people to try to better understand Russian culture, I believe - hence contacting Yakoff Smirnoff. The drummer of Survivor was mentioned because "Eye of the Tiger" was a theme song for Rocky and in Rocky IV, Rocky Balboa faces off against a Russian boxer.
I wouldnt be surprised if the sex-change "plothole" was to allow for a sequel.
Did anyone else catch this Sidehackers reference?
"I read your book you magnificent son of a bitch!"
That's a Patton reference, that was a Patton reference in Sidehackers as well.
oh yeah, I haven't seen Patton in so long and I just watched Sidehackers.
Upon second viewing, my favorite riffs are:
1. Any ladies in there wanna scale Mt. McMconaughey?
2. Mike and Kevin singing Surrender (I would walk 500 miles)
This is the last movie I paid to see at the theater that I felt completely ripped-off by. The ads for this dog seemed to promise a movie about how dragons took over the world. For me if there is one thing that is cooler than dinosaurs, it's dragons. So I dragged my wife to see it with me because she is as big a dragon fan as I am. Imagine my disappointment when the dragons taking over the world is a lousy montage and the film is all about a bunch of smelly, angry survivalists! AAAArg. I wanted to walk out, but sat there and took it. There were some sweet, but short, shots of dragons, but not enough. I was DELIGHTED when this turkey got it's just deserts. It now is in my top five. I've watched it twice and it's just as funny the second time around! Kudos!
I was re-watching the Matrix Riff today and Kevin mentions "Reign of Fire" early in the movie.
Oh god....
I have to say, although Mike and Kevin fought the good fight on this one, the movie was just excruciating. We had to stop watching halfway through, the movie is horrible. It doesn't even PRETEND to be realistic about anything, logic, physics, biology, sociology and math alike, all thrown out the window.
It was a movie with so much obviously wrong with it that, to my mind, any jokes other than "Dear god did that just HAPPEN?" feel kind of shallow. It does not speak well of those distant, dark masters of Hollywood that a film like this could get made.
I highly enjoyed this movie, and likewise, enjoyed the rifftrack. As an HP employee, I got a huge kick out of the Dell laptop battery remark.
What a stupid, pointless movie. As dull and incomprehensible as anything from the MST3K days.
Mike and Kevin did a great job.
I gotta say when I saw Reign of Fire in the theaters, I thought maybe me and my dad were going deaf, cause for inexlipicable reasons the dialoge was soft, while the music and sound effects were so loud they would drown it out at times.
Nope, not the case, just retarded acting from the likes of Mc-Chau-nah-hey and Christian Bale. You see, this was their excuse to create dramatic tension, by speaking so soft the viewer is forced to listen. Which made Mike's line "Why are we whispering?" and all the other lines delivered during these "tense" moments so damn hillarious.
This was a funny rifftrax. Not quite as funny as Firewall but funny nonetheless.
Ugh. Can we bring back the movies that are so bad they're unintentionally funny? I'd rather watch Crossroads six more times than see this again even once. At least Britney Spears didn't continuously defy the laws of physics. And dull? Even my husband, who happily sat through four viewings of Watchers 3, was starting to get bored about halfway through.
Having said that, they did a nice job with the Rifftrax.
But I'm really, really, really missing Bill Corbett.

I thought this one WAS so bad it was unintentionally funny. :^)
This was the first time ive watched this movie. The movie itself i found entertaining enough, Strange but entertaining. But Rifftrax was better tho.. There was more singing from kevin then anyother one ive seen. Which is always cool and the McConaughey jokes where all good. I notice they werent that hard on bale. Which is good because i think hes a good actor. Anyways i guess thats all i have to say about it.
the whole we have unlimited hellcoptor feul was hilarious to me
I loved this one. While I'll never place myself in the "hated the movie" camp, I was unquestionably disappointed, as this was a story idea that I felt had a lot of potential (in spite of its overall incredulity). "Reign of Fire" played out more like selected scenes of a television show than an actual film, and while there was a lot of stuff to enjoy on the whole I'd felt let down.
And then came the Riffers. Mike and Kevin's treatment of the overall bleak feel of the film, the gaping gaps in logic and plot, and the generally unlikable nature of Matthew McConaughey were all brilliant, and the interaction and dialogue between the Riffers was better here than in any other Riff I'd seen to date. In fact, I think this might have been my favorite to date (I've also viewed "Star Trek VI", "The Matrix" and "The Phantom Menace"), simply because the Riff was so consistently funny and entertaining.
Favorite lines/moments after a first viewing:
Kevin's "dying dragon" dialogue ("Tell Pete I love him", "Give my children to Hagrid", etc.)
"He has the strength of 10 scrawny British actors!"
"Tomorrow we'll re-enact a scene from Short Circuit 2."
"I am Oz!"
The recurring bad puns joke ("Every time I make a bad pun you flick me in the ear...I'm starting to see a correlation here...")
All of the songs! :)
