Okay, so I've seen this movie several times now, including a couple times in the last two years. But until viewing it this evening I never noticed the shot (shown toward the end) of this intersection:

...which is the intersection of South Victory Boulevard, West Providencia Avenue, and South Verdugo Drive in Burbank...
...which is right around the corner from the house I lived in for more than two years, right up until just last weekend! I've purchased many a King-
Size Snickers bar from the store on the far left with the 7-Up logo painted on it. :scared:
Too funny!
Haha, neat :)
Yeah, well *I* lived in the Winchell's... so HA!!!
Okay, so I didn't... I lied. **sigh**
Well, I thought it was cool anyway. :P
That must have been odd to notice on film...........
Well, living in La-la land out here, one grows accustomed to seeing familiar sights on the big screen - it took me a while, but I eventually recognized that the police HQ in Blade Runner was actually LA's Union Station, which also gets gobs of screen time in The Italian Job (along with a lot of Downtown Hollywood and some of the Metro Rail system). It's also not uncommon to be driving down a street you've traversed hundreds of times and see a new "business" that seems to have popped up overnight ("huh - I never noticed that convenience store before!"), only to realize it's a redressed liquor store or warehouse or something.
But if, like myself, you're not an actual part of the illusion-making system, it's still startling to see a plain old ordinary out-of-the-way street you walk on every day in the movies.

Living in NorCal (and I mean NORTHern California.... as in a few hours N of Sacramento) I don't have that luxury much, but I can definitely see how it would be cool to see something and think "Yeah... that's my school" or something to that effect. Especially if you went there more or less every day, like the store in the picture there.
The closest I get is from some made for TV movie with Tracy Gold (Stolen Innocence), which filmed here... my dad works for our local paper (as do I now), so we got to go into closed areas and were just a few feet away from filming. Even had to move a few times so we wouldnt be in the shots.
Oh and the old Flynn version of Robin Hood.... that was filmed here, but the park looks NOTHING like it did then, so there's only a few spots I can properly pinpoint by sight. "Hey, people jumped off that tree" Things like that. ;D
Hey wakachiwaka. Did you know that's the same street that Doc Brown lived on? Watch Marty when he lives the house at the beginning. You'll probably recognize the Burger King he passes.
This happens every so often to me too. The scene in "Blast From the Past" where he's walking the street for the first time is basically the neighborhood where I'm from. It's the west end of the Valley which doesn't get as much exposure as Burbank or Pasadena (east part of the Valley), but it pops up here and there.
I highly recommend checking out http://www.movie-locations.com (http://www.movie-locations.com) for more. Now that Google Maps has street views covering almost every square inch of L.A., you can now look at those places as if you were there. I just "saw" Pee-Wee's house (from Big Adv.) yesterday. It's a great way to kill an afternoon.
Not entirely the same thing, but my family and I went to Hawaii a couple of years ago and took a tour of a ranch that they do a lot of movie shoots on. Every one of the movies does the same shot of a single mountain at the end of the valley. We can spot the damn thing in movies the guide didn't even mention now. Funniest multi-use for one location. The diner on the beach from "50 first dates" was the same spot as the slaughter of an entire village in "Tears of the Sun."

Is that the ranch that a lot of Lost is filmed at, where they also filmed Jurassic Park.... which led to a lot of rumours about dinosaurs on Lost?
The closest I come are the locations for The Birds and Phenomenon, both of which were mainly filmed just a few miles away from my home.
I Iived a few miles from the Dante's Peak filming (there's a riffable movie for you). People used to come to the town and ask where's the volcano!? Sadly it was just cgi. No volcanos in Idaho.

They do a lot of filming for lost on the ranch but the only scene for Jurassic Park that was filmed there was Grant and the two kids crouching behind the fallen tree. The other filming was done on another of the islands and they had to move that shoot because of a hurricane or something.

The scene where they fly onto the island via helicopter is all Hawaii. They even have a helicopter ride in Hawaii that retraces it... so I've been told... by people who live in Hawaii. Having been there (Hawaii; not the ride), you totally can recognize those mountains as being from the movie. They're pretty similar no matter what island you're on.

The whole thing was shot in Hawaii. Just that one scene was done on the big island. Not sure about flyovers though.
alot of Memento is filmed in not-so-scenic Sunland-Tujunga, including the cheesy hotel. the lovely sights along Foothill Blvd are wondrous for reminding me why i left my hometown :P
