Title: Even More Basic Question about Shorts
Post by: Fuzzy Necromancer on July 30, 2008, 04:11:30 PM
What are these "short" things? x.x Do they come with the riffs included, or do we have to synch them up? Is the short available on the site, or do you have to scrounge around for the actual short a la star wars holiday special?

What is "DRM-free"? Does it have anything to do with trans-fats?

-Signed, one of the only six people on this entire forum who don't synch up, reauthor, and burn syntho flavo five DVDs as a hobby.

Rur? I've seen the sample clips, but I'm still not clear on what product is actually being sold. The riff, the short, or both? x.x

Yes.    ;D

Seriously, the shorts are short video files with riffs included.  DRM free just means they aren't "digital rights managed' which means you don't need DIVX to view them.  You can view them on any computer with a media player (like windows media player) or a portable media player like an iPod or whatever you have.

So, you get the public domain short, the riff and access to several file types.  One of the file types is just an mp3 of the actual commentary by Bill, Mike and Kevin so, if you want to get a higher quality copy and synch it up, you can.  I am way to lazy to do that for a 15 minutes riff.  I always just use the iPod format.

The actual unriffed shorts are available from several websites and are in the public domain.

Again.. It's all the above options you listed:

.mpeg-2 to watch with Windows media player, or can be burned directly to DVD if you have the software (I use this option)
.riff for the RiffTrax player
.mp3 audio track only for synching on your own
.divx
.wmv for Zune

What ever way is best/easiest for you, it's available after purchase 8)

Ooooh, okay ^^;

Gotcha. Glad to hear that. If it's a packaged deal, then I'll definately start finally investing a dollar or two in these little buggers. x3

Okay. I've bought the shorts.

Now which ones do I download? x.x The mp4 file won't play at all, and the "high quality" one is audio only. Which ones can play on windows media player? =s

either the .wmv file, or the .mpg file.

I recommend the .mpg file since it is higher quality than the .wmv, as the .wmv was intended for Zune's, so its a smaller file.

Try downloading VCL and playing it through there. The "high quality" one is the mpg one, right?

It must just be your player, because that's the one I always get.

It's VLC.  :)  It's a Video Player.  It's much better than Windows Media Player.

Well, the mpg is the one that won't play, or at least won't play with visual as well as audio. =/

Is it safe? >.> I don't want to download too many things from unknown sources because I'm on a network and I'll get chewed out if any viruses or spyware get in.

VLC is great, I'd get it if I were you, and I doubt you will get anything if you use mrbaseharts link.

Download VLC and use it to play your media, you will have better results than WIndows media Player, not just with our files.

It goes without saying that you will not get 'viruses' and 'spyware' from the links we're providing

And just to clarify, RVR said you get a .riff for the RiffTrax Player. That's not true. We provide video files (Divx, windows media, Quicktime (formatted for ipod) and mpeg2 that is easily burned to DVD.

We also provide the source mp3 and the riff (commentary) mp3 for the audio ducking purists, although our latest ducking system seems to be working out quite well.
