Poll / Discussion - Favorite Book Medium

So what format do you like best and why? Feel free to discuss a general opinion on text vs. audio as well.

Example reasons for liking a particular format:
- text in general - 1. "I just love books. The feel, the smell, everything." 2.  "droning &/or smooth voiced audio tends to put me to sleep." 3. "with audio you can easily miss what gets said (distraction, misunderstand due to voice issue of some kind) and have to rewind. with text you just pick up exactly where you left off.
- audio in general - 1. "reading makes my eyes tired &/or makes me sleepy."  2. "I'm blind, so it's my best option anyway." 3. "I can listen in the car while driving &/or I don't have time otherwise at home or work." 4. audio doesn't leave ink smudges on my fingers like paperbacks do."

- Hardback - 1. sturdy so it will last longer  2. prefer larger print.
- Trade Paperback - larger print than paperback, but not as expensive as hardback (middle ground)
- Mass Market Paperback - 1. smaller & more portable.  2. cheapest medium
- eBook Reader - 1. lighter than a book.  2. saves shelf space.  3. can carry multiple books with me on a long trip in only one device. 4. save the trees! down with paper!
- Cell Phone - "I'm on the go, but don't want to lug some big eReader around."
- Vinyl Record - (yes they do exist, or did anyway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_book )  "I like that old time spoken recording stuff."
- Cassette Tape - "I have a collection and listen at home, maybe I'll upgrade one day."
- CD - 1. "I listen in my car on the drive to work, and/but haven't purchased a new digital audio capable car-stereo."  2. I dislike compressed audio in digital files.
- Digital Audio File - 1. "My iPod / Zune / other-digital-music-player goes with me everywhere anyway." 2. even easier / more portable than paperbacks to take on a long trip.

I generally prefer paperbacks.  Hardbacks have less wear, but I find they hurt my hands sometimes - I bend back books - and it's pain trying to relocate the dustcovers when I'm done.  I've listened to a few audio books, but I find it hard to keep concentration on other things while listening.    The bigger the paperback the better, IMO, I quite like those omnibus books, with more than one novel contained within.   :)

Trade paperback is my fav. The nerd/collector in me loved hardcovers, and some I do prefer...but TPB's have the size of the HC with the comfort and portability of a Mass Market PB.
Any issues with the RiffTrax main page should be directed to support@rifftrax.com Attempts to engage with me directly about such matters will result in ridicule.

I only have hardcovers of the books I want to keep forever. I like trade paperbacks because they last longer (unless they are a Penguin version of any George Eliot novel)

As for audiobooks, gotta love the cds, but I prefer mp3 cds for the longer novels.

You know, I actually had the idea for the Ebook reader like- 9 years ago. If only I'd rushed to the patent office. :^)

Since I enjoy reading in the tub, I have to go with the mass-market paperbacks.

If you vote for anything other than hardback, then sir...... good day to you then sir.

I just love the feel of a hard back book.   When you sit down with one of those, no TV, no radio and read...... you are in your own world.
