Guys, I checked out the mpeg2 of Down and Out (and several of the upcoming ;) ) and the audio worked fine for me in WMP 11 and 9...both on different computers as well. Unfortunately I don't have a mac to test it on, but the audio is there and working fine on this side and my computer at home.

I think the ducking is really unnecessary and makes it difficult to enjoy.

Really?

I listened to Eegah's sample, and I don't like it. What about when the riffers start talking over the narrator? You need to have ducking at that point, otherwise it's just a mish-mash of talking and it sounds like noise. Is that really what you guys would prefer?

Perhaps the attack of the ducking could be adjusted - I think a reasonable comparison would be to alter what we're doing now by increasing the riffer audio so it's a little louder than the source, and easing up a bit on the ducking. That way it's more subtle. But I think it's definitely a requirement, especially in the event of someone talking over dialogue within the short itself.

EDIT: After reviewing some more of the clip, I do agree that the levels have some quality lacking. It seems like there is a lot of variance in the riffer commentary...

A little bit of ducking is probably optimal (like MST3K-levels), but I prefer no ducking to the large amounts of ducking that are on the clips provided. The ducking for "Down and Out" almost completely wipes out the original audio and, to make matters worse, the riff audio seems to be lower than the original audio (it should be at the same level or higher). Another thing I don't like about ducking in general is when it telegraphs the joke. If the ducking is subtle enough, though, that doesn't happen.

In the end, I'll take these clips however you provide them and like it. Everyone has their different preference and if most people like them they way they currently are, so be it. If that's the case, though, it would be nice to be able to get the mp3's and original source video to make them myself.

Perhaps this boils down to how the audio sounds on each individuals PC or home theater setups (and the hardware used). I know when I play the the MPEG pre-mixed version on my home theater system that audio ducking is very detectable. On my PC is is as well, but on a lesser scale.

The software app used for mixing and the player used to review the results will produce varying resutls as well. I use Goldwave for audio mixing, others may use Audiocity, etc.

I was responding to a few of the above posts that said they were getting NO audio what-so-ever from the clips.

But I have also been re-examining the settings on the auto-duck and have been playing around a bit (this is the first time I've really been able to do so since starting here) So we'll see if I can come up with a solution that will be time-efficient enough to put into action for future releases.

Here's a possible solution...  bundle up the riff audio and raw clip audio as a separate download for those of us too particular to put up with the ducking.
Or... bundle up an alternate mix (just the audio).  Something along those lines would shut up the nit-picky fans and wouldn't be too taxing as far as extra work, server space or bandwidth.

Yeah, put me down as another person using a Mac who is getting NO audio for this particular short in high quality.  I tried downloading the high quality one twice and got no audio whatsoever.  When I downloaded the Itunes version the audio was perfect, so for me it's only the high quality video and it's only this particular short.  All the other shorts are fine in high quality.
