Freeplay mode where you can play the drums over MP3s ripped to your console?  Cool!

Really?  I actually think that's kinda lame.  I mean, the MP3 track wont skip a note if you miss it when you're drumming along.  And if the game plays drumming sounds when you hit the pads for this feature, I imagine that an MP3 that already has a drum track will end up sounding cluttered and messy.

Anyway, unless there's a lot more to that mode that we don't know about, it's a feature I'm pretty sure I'll never use.

Maybe so, but it's about the same as playing a guitar along with a CD.

That ION kit has come a long way from the prototype:

The expansion option is nice. Especially if they want to compete with GH IV.

I wonder what the ION kit will cost...

Yeah that's the big question, and how limited?

I mean I would be tempted to import one if it was toooo expensive, I just have a limit on how much I will spend it I have no chance of replacing it.

Looking at ION's website they have two models of electronic drums one for $149.99 and one for $199.99 so it really shouldn't be much more than that. I just hope they worked with HMX with their expansion plans so that when they do make separate cymbals and what not that it can be compatible.

Being able to convert to a real e-drum set will be a definite plus.

The PS3 one works as one with the help of a Mac, but the lack of pads/cymbals takes away from that.

Well, I was already planning on getting it, but seeing the kit may push me into actually pre-ordering it.

ok so they are 300 bucks plus shipping, and the 3rd cymbal is extra.

Does this game sound good on a nice surround system? Specifically 5.1 dolby digital, or dts surround?

I certainly see what they mean about adding more music video like effects.

And they'll be releasing another 20 master tracks for free this fall as DLC!

My only complaint is the actual AC/DC song they chose.  Lame.  Hopefully, AC/DC will let them use more (better) songs in the future.

Sweet!  There's the "Uncontrollable Urge" that I requested!

And Lush?  Good, early Lush?  What a delightully unexpected surprise.

I'm also happy to see more tracks with female vocalists, since my wife staunchly refuses to be seen playing the plastic guitar.

Hello! This is about the single coolest bit of news...

Quote
- Disc Export Feature gives owners of the original Rock Band the ability to export most of the Rock Band disc tracks and upgrade them into Rock Band 2 gameplay--the first time ever in videogame history!

But here's what worries me:

Most of the tracks?  Not all of them?  Which ones won't we be able to import to RB2?  And why?
