The IGN article linked above says "all."  Although I wouldn't be surprised if certain tracks were not transferable due to licensing issues.  Stupid licensing issues...

But here's what worries me:

- Disc Export Feature gives owners of the original Rock Band the ability to export most of the Rock Band disc tracks and upgrade them into Rock Band 2 gameplay--the first time ever in videogame history!

Most of the tracks?  Not all of them?  Which ones won't we be able to import to RB2?  And why?

I've seen reports in various places that there might be a slight charge (I'm hearing $5) to do the export due to having to pay the artists for usage again. This may relate to that.

They are going all out to make people forget they paid $180 for a new "platform" only to have it improved (new drums etc) 8 months later. I wonder what we would have if GH IV didn't go full band? Sounds like they are future proofing with RB 2. The drums will have expansion ports for cymbals etc...

yeah most will mean the ones they couldn't also license for RB2, but it's still 'most' and I think it's a reasonable assumption that if an artist is in both games they would be on the list (since harmonix has an active business relationship with them). I think Metallica/Nirvana/The Who/RHCP etc would be decent assumptions, all the covers, all the Harmonix Bands + Majority of the Bonus Tracks (the ones that aren't Harmonix Bands). Basically RB2 at release is going to have over 300 songs playable. I hate the exclusivity BS though.

$5 to export all those songs so you don't have to keep swapping discs? What a rip off!  Count me out!   ;D

the thing with the 5$ charge is I can't find an actual source for it, the press release about RB2 is on the official RB forums, and that doesn't mention it at all. Joystiq then says 'the press release says 5%' but doesn't link or quote the entire section they are referring to.  This isn't a complaint about the charge, just that the sourcing of it is really strange.

I knew you weren't complaining.  I just thought it would be amusing to complain about a small fee to do something as awesome as that.

We're a tad sarcastic out here on the east coast.  Doesn't always translate when I'm in Iowa.  It's gotten me in trouble a few times in meetings with the suits at work.

It's cool, I just felt I needed to clarify what I was saying, I've since seen the comments from Alex R and it sounds like they just need to confirm which songs they can relicense for use with RB2 and then we need to pay the mechanical rights fees.

So I just pre-ordered my RB2 drum kit earlier this morning, and according to Amazon, the stand-alone game is being released on the 30th of September while the bundle & stand-alone instruments will be released on the 14th. This isn't happening, is it? I understand it would be a good way to move bundles, but if it's true, what a bummer. I've to wait an additional two weeks.

Boo.

I was reading on IGN earlier today (Of course I can't find the article now) that the game and stand alone peripherals will be released on September 14th.  Then the Rock Band 2 bundle for the 360 will be released in October.

Well, as of this morning, the release dates at Amazon are echoing what James posted above:

September 14th = Game & Stand-Alone Guitar/Drums

October 19th = Bundle

Drums & Game are now, both, pre-ordered...

*crossing fingers that 9/14 is the release date*

...possibly less than two months, woo-hoo!
