Okay, I think we've high jacked this thread long enough..........

I have heard a lot of folks saying that the last 15 mintues of the movie was kind of short on riffs..... personally, I did not think so.    I thought they did a good job of riffing over that uber-bizarre "last man of earth" ending.

Cinematic Titanic is a new project from the cast and crew that did Mystery Science Theater. All the old characters are back, plus some new ones!!

Ah.  Must tell Mike and Kevin that it was all a dream...

Yes, a dream filled with hands in puppet's unmentionable places and jumpsuits.

Overall, I liked it a lot.  I agree with a few things already noted here:

1) This one is not hurt by the movie itself.  I mean, Oozing Skull was not just a badly made movie, it was a badly made bloodsploitation movie that was just kinda icky.  Doomsday Machine is just a stupid movie - basically harmless and piled high with cheese.

2) The CinTit concept feels... cold.  There are 5 people "in the studio" (I don't know how they actually record it) and I can see their little silhouettes all moving and gesturing and the like but I get more of a sense of "warmth" from my boombox playing an MP3 of 2 disembodied voices that I have to keep in synch myself.

The bots and Joel/Mike interacted - I believed they were all watching the movie at the same time.

The RiffTrax guys sound like they're over on my couch with their feet up, or in a booth throwing popcorn and waving their farts at each other.

The CinTit group often just gives me a sense of cold, timed reads, mostly completely isolated from the ones before or after.  Someone mentioned the opening riffs in the latest one and I agree - totally stiff and cold.  Oh sure, they got much better through the viewing, and I think the ice broke quicker in Doomsday than in Skull, but still...

That's been my thought so far, the biggest problem they have is the lack of interaction between riffers and how cold the reads are.

Remember they couldn't find studio time anywhere because of the writers strike, so when they found time they shot 3 in a row?  Maybe they felt rushed and were afraid to ad-lib?  If so the next 2 will probably have the same feel.

Or it's the way they are set up on the scaffolding, too far away from each other...

But I suspect it's because there are too many riffers, none of them wants to step on someone else's joke so there's no room for ad-libbing.

When has any riff project ad-libbed?

I'm not talking about the jokes, I'm taking about interaction (or lack of) between the CT gang.

If all the interaction that goes on during a Rifftrax is scripted then they are true gods of entertainment...

Yeah, I'd have to agree there..
There really is a lack of interaction between them.. As if it 'was' scripted.. :-\

I really enjoyed it and liked the intro which at least tried to set a framework for the project.  I can agree with some of the complaints though.  There is some interaction during the movie stops, but not enough.  They need to find a way to  make the experience less cold.  The nice thing about Rifftrax is even though there are no on screen visuals they give the impression they are sitting there with you watching the movie and they have plenty of interaction with each other during the riffs.  Big advantage over CT.

That said the riffing on Doomsday Machine was really solid and it was well worth the cost of buying.  I also liked the hand signed pic from Trace.
Nice little touch.

I felt the best and most natural feeling interaction was during Trace and Joel's break from the movie (to avoid spoliers, i am not going to any more detail than that.)

I agree with a lot of the comments about it feeling a bit "read" (pronounced red) as opposed to Rifftrax where you forget that there's even a script sometime....

BUT

I personally think that most/all of the complaints I had with the first one were fixed in this one.  A lot of the delivery on the jokes reminded me of watching Pod People.  Also, they gave us an intro.... oh and most of the time, they didn't seem to overdo the arm motions.  For example in The Oozing Skull, when Trace says "Oy, I had a hell of a vacation" it almost seems like he moved around in an OVERexaggerated manner simply so we would know WHO was making the joke.

Yeah, we MST3k fans are a nit-picky bunch...

Anyways, I quite enjoyed the whole thing and am looking forward to the next ones....  They really should add stingers to the end though.  When one of the guys on the movie said "HA!" to one of the ladies (I had a hard time telling them apart really), that would have made a perfect stinger.
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

I agree with the aforementioned praise (more fun movie than Oozing Skull; nice intro segment) and the criticisms (takes a little while for delivery to warm up).

"You're having a bad...hair...day"

"Why does it smell like feet up here?"

"Venus, open your arms!"
"DANNY, SHUT YOUR MOUTH!"

I laugh at the bodily riffs, I guess...  :)

Finally got it Friday and watched it a couple times.  Another fun release.  I liked Oozing Skull and this one did seem like a step up, though I think they still have awhile to go before getting the kind of comfort and familiarity we're used to.  This seemed like an early MST3K episode, which I often felt were a bit "colder" as some people have said compared to later episodes.  I'm not too worried about that, especially after how much evidence I see that this group REALLY pays attention to feedback.  Really, pretty much every complaint or concern I remember from the first release has been addressed here.  We get pressed dvds available after people were afraid they were going to switch to dvd-rs, this time we even get a case with artwork if you order it shipped.  It's available worldwide.  There was a short bit of explanation in the beginning of the episode, at least hinting at the premise.  I see this as an upward slope so far, he're hoping they keep heading uphill.

"There's no Pulitzers in Hell!"-deliciously dark, had me rolling

Fewer freeze frames this time, probably figured the ending slowed things down enough as it was.  Neither of the freeze frames were long enough to be full fledged skits, they were pretty much kept to short jokes as opposed to the longer bits they did in Oozing Skull.  It worked for them here, but I wouldn't mind a longer skit here and there in the future.
