RIFFTRAX PLAYOFFS ROUND 2 HEAT 2
« on: November 23, 2006, 07:35:22 PM »
This is Round two of the Rifftrax Playoffs.  I'm using this set-up:

(W= winner round 1 heat, R=1st runner up of round 1 heat)

Heat 1 = W1 vs R6
Heat 2 = W2 vs R5
Heat 3 = W3 vs R4
Heat 4 = W4 vs R3
Heat 5 = W5 vs R2
Heat 6 = W6 vs R1

The poll will run until Wednesday Nov 29th.

This one will have some cheesy 80's communist invasion pitted against some box-office-busting iceberg-crushing Leo.  Tough one.  Vote!

Swayze and Sheen? This is an all time classic that would be loads of fun! Titanic is just long and boring. Even Kate's boobs can't lighten this up enough for me to want to sit though again. Nothing against Mike, but he doesn't hold a candle to boobs.

VOTE RED DAWN!
Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.

Red Dawn

Titanic seems a shoe in for a later Rifftrax plus more Swayze? Can't say no
In brightest day, in darkest night
No DVD shall escape their sight
Let those who tremble in bad movies light,
Beware the power, Rifftrax's might!

I picked Red Dawn as well.  Titanic is far too long, while RD has Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe and C.Thomas Howell!  Directed by John Milius!  It's the quadfecta!

My vote goes to Titanic; I think Rifftrax are funniest when they're tearing apart something that a lot of people take way more seriously than they ought to (read: The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, etc).

When this movie first came out, I had a friend (why do I always have psycho friend stories?!) who was totally dedicated to it.  She cried, she said she felt Kate Winslet's soul, she would go on and on and on and on about  how that movie was what life was all about and I was heartless and cold for mocking it.  I hadn't even given it and her precious Kate a chance!  I didn't see it for a long time because of her.

A while later, on the way to Europe, it was on the flight and I was more or less a captive audience.  I always thought  it was ironic that'd play that on a plane flying over water.  My friend who was going with me and I mstied the thing while we were watching, because neither of us *wanted* to see the crap but we had nothing else to do.  Other people were crying and holding each other (it was pathetic) and he and I were just laughing hysterically.  I remember one scene where the guy falls into the "rudder" type thing and I swear it makes a "THUD" noise, by god, that made me laugh so hard I almost died.  That, my friends, is what life is all about.  I guess my other friend was right!

HA!  I did the same thing when I saw Titanic.  Actually, that guy, and the guy standing on deck when they hit the iceberg initially, and he gets hit with a chunk of ice.  Those two moments made me do one of those "laugh so hard you make a really unappealing snort noise" things.

Still though, I gotta go with Red Dawn.  I already own Red Dawn.  And the cast is just great:  Swayze, Charlie Sheen, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Jennifer Grey, Powers Boothe, Harry Dean Stanton, Ben Johnson, and that guy who played the Soc in The Outsiders (not Leif Garrett, the other Soc, the one who doesn't get knifed by Johnny)...yeah, gotta go with Red Dawn.

WOOOOOLLVERINES!!!!!!!!!

CURSES! He beat me to it!

Looks like Red Dawn is out of it, and that's too bad. When given two choices, I will almost always vote for the movie that is more rewatchable. I could watch Red Dawn twice a day for a week if I had too. Titanic? Even with the funny from Mike and friends, this would be a one and done for me.
