At some point in the past, I revealed to a friend of mine that I had barely ever heard any Beatles music in my life, and it was even rarer that I intentionally listened to them (I think I had all of 7 of their songs on my iPod). He was one of those "Lifelong fan partially raised by the Fab Four" types, so he vowed to fix that. Recently he got me the complete box set, and I'm currently in the process of loading all the songs onto my computer (there's a lot!). Gonna go through every album, in order, over the next few days.

Time to finally see what all the fuss is about when it comes to these boys from Liverpool.

The first few are perfectly fine.  It'll take a few to see the more interesting places they go.

I've come up with my own theorem explaining hatred for certain mainstream artists. The formula works something like this: Mediocre artist + Good looks + Huge success + Insane Popularity = Hatred

Ron Sexsmith once said... oh, damn it, I can't remember it verbatim, but something akin to "Isn't it strange how beautiful people are the only good musicians?"

I can think of musicians to negate that particular quote, but because naming them would imply lack of beauty I will refrain from naming them.

It was a sarcastic barb aimed at record companies distributing an image rather than a sound.

Unfortunate, but true. :(

Enjoying They Might Be Giants' new album, "Glean."

I like it. It's not quite as experimental as Nanobots, but there's still plenty of music that hits you in unexpected ways. I'm particularly fond of "Answer," just because I love it when they throw lyrics at me that my brain can chew on and reinterpret and reinterpret...

Re-discovered an old gem by artist Steve Winwood "Valerie". Very beautiful, damn good song. It is SO 1980's but that's what makes it so appealing and magical.

Yep, probably the 2nd best of the series. Hire staff, make albums, decorate your crib, travel around the universe defeating monsters with the power of Rock!

MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS FEAT. JAMILA WOODS - WHITE PRIVILEGE II

Yeah, it's perhaps overly sincere but fuck if it isn't effective and speaks to me a lot.  Especially given yesterday was 'Australia Day' - basically our version of Thanksgiving I guess
