Are you seriously pretending "torture porn" is anything other than an invention of conservative media?

"torture porn" is hardly a phrase to be attributed towards conservative media.

I never considered Saw to be torture porn. Hostel on the other hand...

...is a movie.

Yes, they never throw two emotive words together in order to outrage their audience.

That may be, but the point is Saw falls into a subgenre of movies (Call that subgenre "Bunny Horror" for all I care.  The specific label is irrelevant, what matters is having a coherent way to refer to the subgenre that is generally understood by the most number of people) that I've never cared for and which doesn't entertain me.  Meanwhile, more mainstream horror films such as The Grudge, The Ring, The Others, etc are excellent.

It's just a matter of taste.  If you've never liked turkey burgers and you go to a new place, are you really going to order the turkey burger simply because you've never had THEIR turkey burger?  Sure, they prepare it differently, but chances are you're not going to like it.

I had forgotten about the guys from Lost being in this movie.    And the old captian from "The Shield" also!

Watched it last night and it was hilarious.   I seem to remember there being more gore in it than their really was.    Maybe I am getting jadded in my old age.

Man, never let the screen writer ACT in your film.    His elf voice was horrible.

I'll tell you, Saw had one hell of a good premise:

Two guys, chained in a grimy basement or whatever, not knowing how they got there, with a dead guy in the middle of the room between them.

The execution?  Not so much.

Okay, that I can buy!    I just wish they would have shown him doing that in a flashback scene.

Anyway, like has been mentioned, good concept, two guys chained in a basement without a clue of why or who the other is, but bad execution.

The movie Unknown http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450340/  was sort of like that and a decent Netflix rental.

I hadn't seen Saw until this Rifftrax. I had it on DVD, bought it in one of those "loads for much cheapness" sales, but never actually watched it. I was surprised about the rifftrax but really having watched it it's perfect for Rifftrax. It's not any worse than the Grudge is in it's gruesomeness. If anything it really reminded me of CSI. If you can handle an episode of CSI you should have no problem with this. Plus it's a very good riff on this one. It's got that one-two punch of a ridiculous premis and a twisty-turniness that means you're enjoying the jokes from Bill and Kevin and at the same time you'll be following the story.
People are using the Tortue Porn arguement but it really isn't like that. It's grim but more than anything it's tense. It's like those levels in Super Mario 3 where the screen is scrolling and the timer is dropping and if you get stuck down a dead end then you'll lose a life. It isn't torture porn.

A nice leap of faith guys, you knocked this unsual ball right out of the park.

Okay, that I can buy!

I can't buy it.  If he wasn't even conscious, what was the freaking point?  To make sure he had a shocking ending to his game?  I wouldn't have believed they wouldn't notice him moving, but might have undrestood his reasoning for doing it if he was monitoring everything that happened in the room the whole time.  He wanted to be part of the action.  It's a thrill thing.  But if he's taking a shot and out of it for a while, what the hell's the point?  To sleep through all the action?  And this dude is the ULTIMATE control freak, so no way in hell's he's paralyzing his body but remaining conscious (allowing him to be in the middle of the action while making sure he doesn't move) because his worst nightmare is them finding out he's faking it and not even being able to move or do anything about it..

And none of this takes into account the reality of a dead body that move goers never think about.  When you die your void your bladder and bowels.  Plus you start to rot.  After eight hours any doctor would be expecting a stankosity in that room that NO LIVING PERSON could ever fake.  When that doesn't happen most doctors would be like "WTF?  Something ain't right!"  Not all doctors would think about this, but again our man's a control freak and he doesn't take these kinds of chances.

If you're gonna do a badass trick ending, it has to hold up to scrutiny and this one doesn't.

Dude!  You're forgetting that this Jigsaw guy is, like, an evil genius!  He could totally pull that off!

And by the way, this 'torture porn' thing is silly.  All it really is, deep down, is good old fashioned exploitation film making.  As others have pointed out, extreme gore for shock value has been around since the early sixties and Hershel Gordon Lewis.  It rears it's ugly head every ten years or so, the same nasty crap just with better special effects.  It will fade out of fashion again as soon as it stops selling movie tickets and DVDs, just like every other half baked movie trend.  Remember the gross out trend in comedies that American Pie started?  Where pretty soon every damn comedy had to feature three or more bodily fluids?  You can only take stuff like that so far and people get tired of it.  Of course, on the other hand, now we seem to have all these awful parody films.  I'm not sure which is worse.

I doubt the room smelled like flowers but Mr. Dupont does complain about the smell in the beginning.

I just loved how Jiggy knew the exact moment to get up for maximum twisty-endingness.

Imagine if he had gotten up an hour later?

When I saw it in the theater I didn't fall for any of the red herrings because I recognized Tobin Bell's voice on the tapes and was waiting for his appearance.
