This is the only film in the entire universe that I'd rather not see riffed. Not out of respect, really, it's just such a personal film to me.

Wow. That is such a load of crap. You don't respect the film, but you don't want to see it riffed because it's "too personal"? We're talking about Ed Wood, for crying out loud! He was the world's worst filmmaker by 1959 standards! (The guys who made Date Movie had not been born yet.)
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

2nd issac,
Matt what is it about "plan 9" that is 'personal'?! Its easily the worst (as in cheesiest) movies legend has released. The commentary track is brilliant, one of my personal favorites.

Please don't take it as snobbery, it's just that I saw this movie when I was really young, and it became a source of pure inspiration for me for years to come. I have seen the MST3K episodes for other Ed Wood movies ("Bride of the Monster", "The Violent Years", etc), and enjoyed them, but was always secretly glad that MST3K never got around to doing "Plan 9".

Remember, "personal" is very subjective. I dunno, "Plan 9" is just a movie that meant alot to me in a very profound way, and is the only movie on earth that I'd just rather skip (as far as commentaries go).

It sounds like there's a story there, somewhere, and I'd be curious to hear it. How does a movie like Plan 9 become a profound experience? :^)

Not much of a story, really. I saw "Ed Wood" when I was barely a teen, and rented it hundreds of times (before I eventually bought it). I bought and read the book about him ("Nightmare of Ecstasy" by Rudolph Grey), and went on my search for "Plan 9 from Outer Space", which was, at the time, very hard to find (nowadays, it's everywhere!).

After calling every video store in the phone book (I said "No, not 'Planet 9', 'PLAN 9'!" more times than I can remember), I finally found a store that had a copy of it (it was in a "Walmart/Blockbuster" about 25 miles from town, and I wasn't old enough to drive). I pleaded that my mom take me there, and we did, picked up my reserved copy, shopped for groceries, and drove home.

By the time we finally got home and I sat my parents down to watch it with me, I was so filled with excitement I was primed to explode. After our screening, I watched it by myself again and again until the wee hours. It was a movie beyond belief and logic, and I felt lucky to had found it. Years later, it remains a personal film for me, and I'm the only person I know that loves it passionately.

Okay, I suppose it was much of a story  :)

So, is the commentary on the legend films version of Plan 9 the same as the downloadable rifftrax?

Hey does it have an intro with Mike and Disembaudio explaining how to work the Rifftrax? I might actually pay $3 for just that. :^)

It's a very quick one.  Not like the epics they produce nowadays.   :)
