And the English could have learned how to make better movies from Hitchcock and David Lean, but instead it's just Hugh Grant hypnotizing women by blinking 80 times a minute and the 3000th adaptation of Dickens, Bronte, or Shakespeare.  ;D But I kid.

You forgot gangster or crime movies... seems to be all that comes out of the UK

True, but I tend to like those movies. Except Sexy Beast. That was unbearable.
Them's fighting words, boy.

Seriously, how can you dislike that movie? If nothing else, it easily took "the most gratuitous use of the word 'cunt' in a serious screenplay" award for that year.

I just couldn't stand Sexy Beast. I liked Ray Winstone, and the underwater heist scene was cool, but Ben Kingsley gave the most irritating performance I've ever seen. I don't care that he was supposed to an irritating prick, it was still unbearable.

How can you possibly not like exactly the same things as me! I'll kill you!

I bet you don't like Captain Crunch, either.

Kurasowa had LOT of this movies and themes shamelessly ripped off.   My dad always loved "A Fistfull of Dollars" then I showed him "Yojimbo" a couple of years ago.   He could not believe that they were the same movie, almost scene for scene.    I dont even know if the Bruce Willis movie "Last Man Standing" gave him any credit in the movie credits either.

Because Yojinbo's not an original idea.  It's based on a Dashiell Hammet novel called Red Harvest, where a man plays two gangs off each other in a small town.  It's a great book by the way, just like the movie.   :)

Actually, I don't like Cap'n Crunch. It's my theory that those adults, or at least quasi-adults such as myself, who love oversweetened breakfast cereal want it because they were deprived of it as children. I, however, was allowed pretty much whatever cereal I asked for, so I don't seek it out now. Sadly, my preference for the blander cereals seems to have no slimming effect on my waistline, however. Maybe I shouldn't eat three bowls at a time. But you can't watch cartoons without cereal! And I watch so many cartoons...

Funny, I really liked "Sexy Beast" and thought Kingsley's performance was fantastic.    Of course, I hated "ET" when I finally saw it last year, so what do I know?   ::)

I find that most Speilberg movies either work or they don't, and rewatching and arguing never help. I don't generally like his work, but there are a few I really love (Munich, Raiders, Close Encounters) and I know at least one person for each who just found it stupid or pointless.

I absolutely hate ET. If I had to choose between watching Sexy Beast and ET I'd probably choose Sexy Beast. Or poke my eyes out and stuff them in my ears. One or the other.

Me, I'd go for ST: The Sexy Terrestrial. Although I've heard good things about Extra Beast.
