Streaming versions not working?
« on: May 11, 2010, 07:12:35 PM »
I've been trying to watch Battlefield Earth on Netflix streaming.  I found the entire introductory scroll is missing from the film, thus throwing off the Rifftrax.  Assuming it was Netflix being incredibly stupid, I tried renting the Amazon Unbox version.  This version was also missing the crawl.

So this kind of stinks, because I only bought the trax because I could (legally) stream the film while I worked.  Is there anyone else with experience with this movie that can tell me if there's any more missing footage that could throw off the Rifftrax?  Otherwise, I'm out 7 bucks and still need to get a DVD to watch this.

Yea, for some reason the streaming file cuts out the opening two minutes of so of the film. The opening line of dialogue in the streaming movie is, "This is all the medicine I could find" which is disembodio's line at 4:54 into the riff mp3.

So glad you posted this!  I have been trying to watch today and was getting incredibly pissed off and confused as to why nothing was synching....kinda surprised there's nothing about it in the read me riff file.  Also don't understand why the opening scroll (which I only just found out about after reading this thread) was left out of the streaming version.

Just FYI for anyone who is reading this, yes, there is more footage missing from the Netflix streaming version, and it is endlessly frustrating.  I'm 17 minutes in and have run into 2 more instances where the sync is thrown off by cut footage.  Screw it, I am calling Battlefield Earth a bust and finding something else to do this afternoon.  What the hell Netflix??

P.S. Kinda wish I would've clicked on the link to the Battlefield Earth page instead of just adding to cart from the list.  Guess I'll have to be a little more careful with my riff shopping from now on.

FYI, this issue also applies to iTunes' Battlefield Earth rental, and I would assume, by extension, to the iTunes purchased movie.  I suppose I'll just have to watch this dreck without Mike, Bill, and Kevin.  ::sob::  :'(  Gah, this had been such a horrible night for bad movies!

This issue should be listed on the Battlefield Earth page!  I thought I always read carefully before I buy, but I guess now I have to add "The Forum" to my cautionary/fine print reading.  ::sigh::

Has anyone tried it with Amazon Instant Video?

It's not a Prime movie so someone would have to buy it to find out.

Usually the digital files are provided by the distributor, so my guess would be it's going to be the same file as Netflix and iTunes.  If an episode of a show has an issue it usually occurs on all the different places you can get it, and doesn't get fixed until the distributor sends out a new file.

That sucks. You can always find the DVD in a $5 bin somewhere, though. That's what I did.

Just bought it "Used-Very Good" for $0.34 plus shipping.  Now comes the wait for cheap shipping. 8)

Just some info for future riff purchases - the info on the file not synching up IS on the on the riff page, but depending on how the riff page shows up on your computer, you probably have to scroll down to see it.  There's a red box on the right that says "see note below" too.  I didn't visit the page, I just added to my cart, so I didn't find out about all that until after I bought the riff.

I don't  know how often the moderators go through the forum, but maybe in the future put an asterisk (or something) beside the names of the riffs that don't sync so we can tell that without visiting the page for the individual riff?  I don't think there are that many of them, so it shouldn't cause much extra work for the web gurus.
