The season 3 Gamera shows and I really enjoyed them. That turtle is one goofy monster.  ;)

I've had trouble watching the KTMAs too.  I think I would've liked the show if it'd just been like that, but seeing how far it came after only a couple of seasons, it's tough to go back.  The only ones I really plan to watch in the near future are the movies that MST3k proper never took on.

Aah, yes, the KTMA episodes. I've seen a couple and the riffing while somtimes funny seems like last-minute jokes. I've yet to see the KTMA Gamera shows, but I think I'd just stick to the improved ones.

Counting sheep. Warm milk. Alka Seltzer Night time Cold and Sinus. Valium. There is no better sleep aid then a KTMA episode.

Let me just state for the record that this is not, in any way, an insult to the fledgling years of MST. I love them. They just, wow, put me to sleep like nothing else.

Heh.  I fully agree with Mike in that in the Sci-Fi seasons, they'd got the riffing down to a fine art.  They're easily my favourite years and though some of the skits for the time-travelling saga aren't the best, when Bobo and Brain Guy were set as the sidekicks, it got real funny, real fast.

I usually keep my mouth shut because it seems to be contrary to practically everybody elses opinion, but I always preferred the sci-fi era host segments. I thought Mary Jo, Bill, and Kevin were all funny and had good chemistry together. I even kind of liked the time-traveling skits. I have to be in the right mood for host segments anyway.  Very often I fast forward past them (for me it's all about the riffing) but I find myself quicker on the fast forward button during the comedy central host segments. I never really got the whole Forrester-Frank thing. And the whole invention exchange nonsense went on too long. The sci-fi host segments felt like real attempts at skits while the Dr.Forrester-Frank stuff felt like things they were doing for their own amusement.

I mostly agree.  I mean I've never skipped the skits, primarily because they break the awful, awful movies that they do into manageable pieces.  :)  I do love Frank though.  The guy just makes me laugh all the damned time.  Dr Forrester I could take or leave though, and his role in the 1st and 7th season are pretty lame.

I'd have to say I skip most of the skits most of the time, and of the ones I don't skip it's pretty even whose I watch--the joel skits, mike/forrester/frank skits or the mike/pearl/brain guy skits. It's more that some episodes had better ideas that translated into skits, rather than that at one point in the series they either lost or gained more ideas.

Space Travelers.

I...didn't like it.  Firstly, Marooned is actually a pretty decent movie.  Ripping 40 minutes from its running time is going to play havoc with movie, so destroying it and then calling it bad seems somehow wrong to me.  I thought some of the Gene Hackman jokes were pretty funny, but as the movie went on, I wanted more and more the guys to just shut up so I could watch the movie.  Trace has a pretty good Gregory Peck impression though.

Bloodlust- I enjoyed it for the most part, but the opening short was funnier was better than the movie itself.

Well, I've said it before and I'll probably say it again, but the riffing of a movie completely breaks any of the tension or atmosphere that the movies tries to build.  It's happened in Halloween, Carnival of Souls, even the Grudge, where horror movies just aren't scary because the riffing robs them of the immersion needed to scare a viewer.  I think it's the same with Marooned, because it's quite contemplative and slow.

Well, annoying people with "tension" (a.k.a nothing) is easy. *coughblairwitchprojectcough*

Fact is, their helmets looked really stupid, so they deserved it.

No its not.  Building tension in a believable way and without boring people is incredibly hard.

No it isn't. You just bore the shit out of the audience for 2 hours and then reveal details that would have made the ending totally obvious in the last 15 minutes of the film. Oh I see. That's what you're saying. Well then. Never mind.

I too, thought this film was ponderous. Perhaps it is better unedited (apparently the original runs over two hours and with MST we only saw about 70 minutes of it) but from what I saw on MST it was more than worthy of riffing.   This is one of those many episodes that I did not care for on first viewing but has grown on me in a positive way.  I quite enjoy it now.  It's also fun to see them riffing on old big name stars like Peck and Hackman. The bit where the guy comes out of the spaceship and servo starts singing is one of my all time favorite MST moments.
