323 - THE CASTLE OF FU MANCHU

Ok, I've watched this one 3 - 4 times now and the movie just does not make sense to me...
Was the original, un-mistied version that confusing? Or did it get chopped for MST?

I mean, I can see some of the Japanese movies not making sense, since they were just TV shows spliced together to make a movie, but this one should have been easier to follow.

Riding With Death

For whatever reason, this is probably my favorite episode ever next to Space Mutiny.  The guys were just totally 'on' for this one.

MST3K:The Movie

I hadn't seen this since aaaaages ago when they occasionally showed it on Sky Movies at like 2pm in the afternoon on tuesdays and I was a wee dude. I know all about the issues with the production but with the DVD just re-released I wasn't really expecting what I got. My mind had played tricks on me, remembering scenes that were in Island Earth that didn't make the MST3K version. It's just all out weird. No theme, Mike weirdly re-dubbing his skits, a movie cut so short it makes the story utterly meaningless and its all over in a flash. It was like a pilot episode or something.
Still glad I've finally got it though.

Just odd. I'd hate to be someone who paid hundreds of dollars for it on ebay.

I actually saw this one uncut and unriffed back when I was a kid.  My untreated viewing was years before I ever saw it as an MST3K, so I can't tell you about any specific cuts, but it was every bit as grim and nonsensical.
I thought I was Dale.

That's going to be a ten yard penalty and loss of down...

That line was from Clonus: The Parts Horror

Gorgo - A good episode, and a great example of how Bill-as-Crow can make something funnier with the Spicks' Macaw host segment.  Hilarious.

K-12 Fugitive Alien, a Sandy Frank classic!

It was pretty cool to see how the fan club got started and also interesting that I liked an episode without Crow in it. Servo did just fine sitting on the right. I have decided now to try and watch the first two seasons in order (excluding what I've already seen) perhaps mixed with Mike's half of season 5 so I don't get a Joel overdose.

K-07 Gamera vs Zigra

The first appearance of the mads marks another historic moment.
Joel actually slapped the annoying Japanese boy across the face, best interaction with the movie ever.

Servo: "Do it again Joel."

Next Up: K-08 Gamera vs Guiron
You really have to give the early fans some serious props for sticking around through that Gamera marathon.

I was really hoping I could find a copy of episode 5 to see the first and only solo riff in the series but no dice. Downloading torrents and acessing the DAP server sounds way too complicated for my tastes.

I just watched this one. My second time. I'll add this one to my extensive list of episodes that seem to get funnier on second viewings. Although I thought the first half was quite a bit stronger than the second (second half had too many repetitive scenes.....monsters attacking, military counter-attacking,people running, monster attacking, military counterattacking..etc....and the riffing suffered as a result) this was a solid episode that doesn't get enough credit. And the Leonard Maltin thing was cute.

My KTMA Marathon continues with K-09 Phase IV.

"I thought it was pathetic. This made flying turtles look good!"_Servo

I like ants and thought there was some hope for this movie seeing the trailer and a handful of people apparently looking forward to a DVD release unriffed but I was bitterly disappointed. It was boring, bizarre in a bad way, and had a WTF sort of ending that really seemed to piss off Joel and the bots. It was a pretty good episode of course but the movie was terrible when it didn't have to be.

The version I found also included a commercial for Joel's local comedy act at the time and another where the mads endorsed a local pizza restaraunt for providing their lunch. That was rather amusing.

continuing to go back a view the one's I don't remember that well...

...411 - THE MAGIC SWORD

Couldn't remember viewing this one before, but it call came back to me when I saw the two-headed, helpers and when I saw Sybil (Estelle Winwood).
It was an average episode.

Terror From the Year 5000

Yet another episode much funnier the second time around. In fact, I a had such a good time with this one I can't for the life of me think what the heck my problem was last year when I didn't care for it.  As many have said, this is one of the many magical things about MST. An episode that didn't do much for you the first time could very well have you in stitches on repeated viewings.
