Looking for some recomendations
« on: March 27, 2008, 08:14:37 AM »
OK here's a question.

I've been out of England for a few years now but I wanted to see what those who are still there might recommend as new bands to listen to that i will most likely not have heard being in Detroit.

I went to the NME website and it's not all that good really.

I'm not much of a new music guy, but there's a few decent bands around nowadays.  I'm not sure what kind of music you're looking for....perhaps a little browsing on www.amazon.co.uk might help?

Maybe see the only band I found via the NME was Kasabian (sp?) I quite liked them (I should post some of the vids from Youtube that I've been listening to in the What are you listening to thread).

I'm looking for something descended from Brit Pop you know, that sort of thing  :)

Okay then.... Hard-Fi, The Feeling, The Arctic Monkeys, The Magic Numbers, Keane, Calexico, Franz Ferdinand, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Bees, The Futureheads, and The Gossip have all been relatively successful recently.  I love the Kaiser Chiefs, while the others do great singles but can be a bit samey.  Like Oasis.  ;)

That'll do nicely  :)

Some I know most I don't, I'll check them all out.

Franz Ferdinand grew on me, I didn't like them at first, but they become better with desensitization ;)

Off the top of my head,  some UK type people I like:

Belle and Sebastian
Camera Obscura
brakes (they might have changed their name to brakesbrakesbrakes)
The Streets
Kate Nash
Emmy the Great
Arab Strap

Don't know if they'd qualify as brit-pop though.

*edit* Also The Verve are back together.  Haven't heard any new tracks yet though.  I've been meaning to look.

They really need to be post 2002 which was when i left England  :)

I could never really stand the Verve, mostly because Richard's a complete knob.
