This just made me laugh....
« on: December 05, 2006, 07:50:44 PM »
From the imdb:

"The news staff at a Baltimore TV station was left with egg on its collective face when the station broadcast -- at least twice on Monday -- a report that Michael Richards had appeared in blackface at a celebrity roast for Whoopi Goldberg over the weekend. The staff of WJZ-TV, a CBS affiliate, had picked up the report from DatelineHollywood.com, apparently unaware that all of its reports are intended to be satirical. The Baltimore Sun reported that the story about Richards, who was propelled into the news when he shouted racial epithets at patrons at a West Hollywood comedy club last month, was presented "in breaking news style" by the program's news anchor, Sally Thorner. The DatelineHollywood story also reported that Richards "took out a bottle of Aunt Jemima syrup and poured it over Whoopi's head," and then began singing "Mammy." News director Gail Bending told the Sun that the report "should not have aired" and that the station would broadcast a correction."

Didn't Ted Danson actually do that a long time ago?

This exactly why college professors don't accept internet sources in term papers.

If Michael Richards was at a roast for Whoopi Goldberg and poured syrup on her head he'd have about 20 bouncers on top of him in an instant. He would not survive!!!

What gets me looking at this site is, what reporter would actually believe this?  Even just reading the stories away from actually seeing the site and knowing it was a satire site would probably make me say, "Hmm, maybe I should check this source."  It reads like the Onion (but less humorous).

I don't know. I'm a two bit Internet reporter, not a big fancy TV reporter, but a few of those lines would have made me stop and think about the validity of the source.  Whoever reported it should be fired just for being dumb.

I think Ted Danson did really do that, minus the syrup.

This also happened with an Onion article some time back.  There was a paper that reported that US Congress wanted a new "Stadium" with a retractable roof and more box seats.

That reminds me of that news station that reported that Pirates of the Caribbean 2 broke the opening weekend box office record previously held by Aquaman.  Aquaman being the fictitious movie-within-the-show Entourage on HBO.
