Star Trek New Voyages is a fan created series.  You have to see it for yourself:

The best part is that these are only fan films, which means they are free to download and copy.  I'd love to see these riffed.

That would be pretty disrespectful.

I was at a science fiction convention where they screened one of these episodes, and out of curiosity, I watched.  About midway through, the audience began laughing at it.  Soon after, they began riffing it.

I'm not saying a ST:NV riff is a good idea, but there is proof of concept.

If the fans that spent the time and energy making these episodes agree to it, I'm all for it.  But I can't see Mike and the guys wanting to alienate their own potential audience.

Wait wait wait.

Look, I understand that they put in a lot of effort to make the shows.  I can appreciate that they aren't professional films either and they are works of love and fun, and not of cheap old exploitation of tricking an audience into seeing something that looked good in the previews but was more loathesome than eating something you'd normally dig off your shoe with a stick.

I would furthermore like to point out that I genuinely appreciate the fact that some people are willing to put this much effort into making something for free and to share it for free with the rest of the world, for free, expecting nothing in return.  I can appreciate the fact that they aren't professionals.  I appreciate the fact that they made them, and here's a shocker, I'm hoping that this sort of fun, goofy, type of stuff becomes a norm as technology gets cheaper and cheaper to produce it.

But

Come on, it would be hilarous, and it might just get these guys some more exposure.

Still, on the other hand, it might crush the amateur actors very souls.

All I can say is that if I were making a fan film I'd be doing it in good humor.

The riffing doesn't need to be cruel either.  How about "Well at least this Kirk can act"

Sure thing:

http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/episodes.html

The pilot that I'm talking about isn't there anymore.  That kind of got buried, but it's still floating around on the Internet, everything is.

They're worth watching from the standpoint that the people that created it just had fun creating it.
