Volume 9: Why?
« on: February 16, 2008, 11:50:34 PM »
Volume 9 has one of my favorite episodes of all time, The Incredible Strange Creatures, etc. Anyone know why it was discontinued?

My guess was a Rhino screw-up in securing the rights to one of the movies, seemed to be the order of the day for a few stretches with that company.  How many of those box sets have been yanked off the shelves at one time or another, sometimes to return sometimes not?

I've been thinking of getting the ones I don't already have before the changover. Are volumes 1-5 all still available?

Yeah, I was looking on ebay to get the volumes I don't have and was shocked to see that vol. 9 was going for so much. Glad I have it. But I can't imagine what movie would have been holding tightly onto their rights.

Ooh, now I'm even more glad I bought the set!

Incredibly Strange... is also one of my absolute favorite MST3K episodes, so this makes it all the more sweet!

I'm glad that was one I got when it came out, I picked up the 4 sets I didn't have back in December, so I'll have a full set when the Gila Monster disk ships.  Funny how they say it's because the rights expired, and still no one knows which one it is, kind of an odd to make a limited time deal on one movie in a box set.  They should have released that one as a single and put a different one in the set.

I never really assumed it was they bought rights to the movie and it expired as much as I assumed it was Rhino f-ed up and didn't have the rights secured at all like they thought they did.  I could be wrong.  They've made mistakes like that before from what I've heard (Amazing Colossal Man on VHS)
