Spuds McKenzie (Bud Light) Vs. Helping Hand (Hamburger Helper)

Spuds MacKenzie (real name Honey Tree Evil Eye, c. 1983 - May 31, 1993) was a dog featured in an advertising campaign for Bud Light beer in the late 1980s. The dog was named marketing dog of the year in 1987 when he first showed up in a Bud Light Super Bowl ad. By the end of the game, Spuds was a marketing success. The dog, a Bull Terrier, existed not without his share of controversy. Shortly after Spuds' rise to fame it was learned that "he" was actually female. The "controversy" was spread through the media. At one point Budweiser employees concealed "Spuds" from cameras, so as to hide her female genitals while she urinated.

Hamburger Helper's mascot is the Helping Hand, an anthropomorphic animated, four fingered left-hand glove, which appears in the product's television commercials and on the packages. A left handed glove is used, oddly enough, to make the Helping Hand right handed. The thumb of the glove serves as the Helping Hand's "hand".

I didn't really like Spuds but what do I know.   He's an ugly dog and not even a "so ugly he's cute" ugly.

This is a tough call.  The hand certainly can't "out-cool" Spuds, but Spuds was so flash in the pan compared to the longer staying power of the hand.  I mean I don't see those ads on tv anymore but I'm pretty sure he's still the logo.

Damn, Gotta go with the dog on this one I guess.

Didn't Sam raimi and Bruce Campbell make a short film when they were kids about a "Helping Hand" like character going on a killing spree? Has anybody seen that?
