Night of the Living Dead 3D?
« on: November 08, 2006, 07:50:19 AM »

Browsing around on the imdb, I found that Night of the Living Dead has been remade (again), but this time...in 3D!

It's directed by Jeff Broadstreet - the mastermind behind Dr Rage and Sexbomb - and stars Rob Zombie favourite Sid Haig.

Anyone remotely interested can look at it here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0489244/

It's supposedly a name only remake. Romero secured some legal rights when he and Savini did their remake so now you can't blatantly steal the script anymore like you could. He was able to shore up the rights, in his words. What that means exactly is beyond me.

...

I bought this DVD the week it came out, and man... it is horrible. I figured that since it had Sid Haig and came with four 3D glasses, it would at least be a fun movie to watch with some friends or something. I really didn't expect much, but... Ugh.

Originally the director had wanted to remake a different public domain film. But the producers talked him into NOTLD, then they told him that it was going to be 3D... but with the same budget. Then they told the writer to add some pot humor to the script. The end result of all that tinkering is a horrible, headache-inducing mess of a film.

It's very telling that the extra Q&A on the disc was from a screening where there were only about 5 people in the audience. Apparently the word of mouth was so bad, that this movie bombed at almost every showing. Too bad i didn't hear about it myself. I might have saved some money~

I could have forgiven EVERYTHING if there was some decent 3D in the film.  I watched it on a 60" HD TV upscaled to 780p.  The only things remotely 3D were the scant, and poorly executed, cgi effects.  And those effects' three-dimensionality weren't even as good as the worst 3D comic book (Valiant Vision, anyone?).
