24. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope - (1977)- 86 points
(6 of 40 lists. Highest ranking - #3 Tyrant)

Directed by George Lucas
Starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher

Synopsis:
"Princess Leia is held hostage by the evil Imperial forces in their effort to take over the Galactic Empire. Venturesome Luke Skywalker and dashing Captain Han Solo team together with the lovable robotic duo, R2-D2 and C-3PO, to rescue the beautiful princess and restore justice in the Empire."

Possible Points of Comedy:
-Like whiny father, like whiny son.
-What? A lightsaber fight without a lot of flipping and force-pushing?
-I'd have to say the change from clone troopes to stormtroopers is a bit of a downgrade.

Woo hoo! Three from my list so far (I DID put The Running Man on my list; didn't I, Greg?).

34. The Running Man - (1987)- 74 points
(5 of 40 lists. Highest ranking - #6 HackBlowfist)

Directed by Paul Michael Glaser
Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Conchita Alonso and Richard Dawson

Synopsis:
"The year is 2017. The world economy has collapsed. The United States has sealed off it's borders and has become a military controlled police state which controls TV, movies, art, books, communication and censorship. In the police state America has become, criminals have a choice. They can serve their sentences in prison or they can take part in "The Running Man" a government owned violent game-show where contestants running for freedom are pursued by "Stalkers" wrestler-like bounty hunters. "The Running Man" is the top rating show on network TV and Damon Killian, the creator and host is the most popular entertainer in the US. But one man has yet to play... Former L.A. police officer Ben Richards, framed for the massacre of innocent people, when disobeyed orders is recaptured, after escaping from prison. Ben is forced to appear on "The Running Man", joined by resistance fighters William Laughlin and Harold Weiss and Amber Mendez, (a network employee who Richards took hostage and she turned Richards into the authorities) are chased by The Stalkers, as they search for the secret base of the resistance, as they bid to broadcast the truth about the government and prove Ben's innocence."

Possible Sources of Comedy:
-Jesse Venture is in it.  Hot governor on governor action!
-Anytime Richard Dawson is on screen.
-They're really milking the whole "I'll be back" thing.

Crap!  How the hell could I have forgotten this one?  One thing I'd like to add:

- The fact that it bears almost NO resemblance to the Stephen King novel on which it was based.

There's a reason King made them leave the "Based On The Novel By" credit as Richard Bachman (the pseudonym under which he wrote it).

I have to agree.. I just can't see myself enjoying a riffing of the "original trilogy".

As much as I love them, I end up riffing them myself when I watch them now.  I say bring it on.  The Raiders riff was hilarious, and didn't ruin the movie for me at all.  I can still watch it just for its own sake and enjoy it.

Same here; I can't watch them with people anymore, because I won't shut up.
